Mesopotamia units

vinduu can u give me some examples of reconstructed textile armour ??

ps from iran area, there was some discussiaon about the appearance of the brigantine in those areas, could you provide some information?

I was wonder did the entire Mesopotamia submitted to Khwarezm Shah rule, where is the Seljuk Empire, Abbasid Caliphate, Ghaznavid and the Ghorid Sultanate? In fact the Khwarezm Shah have eliminated the Ghorid Sultanate but do not destroy the Seljuk Empire entirely until the Mongol invasion. Khwarezm Shah's didn't conquer Iraq but they have the thought to conquer Iraq, if Iraq was absent from Khwarezm map then they are not counted as Mesopotamian civilization. A proper Mesopotamian civilization during High Middle Ages should be the Abassid Caliphate because they owned Mesopotamia.

Did you mean Linothorax or you mean hardened cloth? What period? Is it Ancient period or Medieval period?

the abbassid caliphate is covered by the modpack of the senior unit designer sandris, in another modpack, search and find. about the cloth: the brigantine is basically a sandwich of whatever with metall in the middle, did the sassanian used this kind of armour - for soldiers, cause horses are somethinf separate.??

As far as i know the quilted linen armor was used in Achaemenid Persia. As for Middle Ages, Hazagand a variant of brigandine armor in the Middle East used by the Turkish horsemen especially horse archers because it provide sufficient protection and it do not sacrifice mobility.

my favourite book i ever read was Anabasis, i read it two years ago, and there like in the life of Cyrus the great leather armour and if i remember right even quilted armour was mentioned. for sure persians had some sort of cuirass made of lighter materials...

Sassanids do not use brigandine, they use lamellar, splint armor, chain mail and laminated armor which resembles Roman Lorica Manica because their tactics are diiferent from the Turks. Brigandine was used by Turkish Turcomans settled down in Persia, Central Asia and Asia Minor.

what century?

PS and you want to say that turkomans could use this brigantine also in cold weather since the metall inside would not get cold so easily....cold and dry climate?? hmm??

The armor was worn but with clothings and under garments that protects the Turkish horsemen from cold and dry weather. There are evidence that they worn such armor during the Battle of Manzikert and the People's Crusades although the Byzantines cavalry and the Frankish Crusaders make wrong assumption that they have no armor at all. The variant of brigandine Hazagand however was a different pattern from European pattern or independent branch developed in Middle East. Just like the chain mail, there are European pattern, Japanese pattern, Persian pattern and other miscellaneous pattern.

Here's a picture that depicts a Savaran:

sassanian_savaran.jpg

A Savaran have code that requires him to wear a certain kind of armor and use weapons approved by the law any offense against the code will caused him punish or disciplined.

ok, i will give you an osprey example

Spoiler :
parthian_sassanian_cataphracts.jpg

the sassanian cataphract seems to wear a tabard that might include lamellae in cloth or padding. the parthian is the one with the blue horse clothing. they say it is an earlier sassanian nobleman.

Late period Savaran are quite different than the Savaran we see during the reign of Shapur II because a new class of people called the Dhiqans began to replace the Azatan in some empty ranks. Some of these people don't really have the wealth to armed themselves like the Azatan do and they armed like the person in the photo.

These are the photo of Sassanid armor made by a Greek reconstructor:

i also wanted to say i played alot invasio barbarorum and made myself a personal modpack with the most beautifull units i found 5 years ago. i know very well the units u propose and i hope someday there will be some additions to the existing unit lines to near your, mine and the public expectations of this wonderfull game site. :)

well thank you again manuneed, but since sandris disapeared from the scene (at a very young age), imperator is busy ww1, and recreating england, plotinus having real time issues, and the others beeing so busy in their own creational quest, maybe the stars will hear my requests, which are only few, concentrated and will bring lot of fun to the gameplay...

Moderator Action: Very poor choice of words.... Sandris is too busy with real life issues, and doesn't have the necessary free time to make units at the moment. He did not disapparead, he actually posted here very recently
