Says you?
Or a crappy non-metal magazine?

Take it from a veteran rocker who knows...Korn ain't metal...They are rock!

Argue if you want, but I have been into this gig since the mid 1980's...long before the dawn of this 'nu-metal' hitler youth.

And I am still into it, I am not some old mouldy has-been!
I buy all the cutting edge new metal releases as they come out.
Only by keeping your heart in real metal, can you legitimately discuss real metal!

I love metal too. Listenin to some right now. Linkin Park, Korn, Metallica, ACDC, System of a Down, Disturbed, Saliva, Taproot, and Staind are my favorites.
:band:

Oh, we all love rock and roll!

Metallica were once metal....until 1992 when they sold out.
ACDC are classic hardrock.
They other guys are all worthy rockers...make no mistake.
But only Sys of A Down come close to slightly metal.

;)

Also, what do you call that multi electric guitars style of Boston? Its not really metal is it?

Awesome choices Lefty! Not too familiar with the first one though....old fart :)

Metal bands I love to torture my neighbours with: :)

When it comes to pure metal and 101% attitude, there's nothing like Slayer. 25 years in the making and they still sound the same, just more refined. I'm looking forward for the next 25 years! :thumbsup:

Rammstein made a deep impression on me, and having seen them twice live only adds to that. They fall into the industrial metal category (I suppose), but rock just as much. :)

Metallica :cry: Why did they have to sell out? :( Money, I suppose. Oh well, Master of Puppets is still an awesome record.

Of course I have to mention Nightwish :D The first metal band I heard that had a classical lead singer. Plus I have a small crush on her. ;) From the 'opera metal' genre (or whatever you should call it) I also recommend Tristania and Sirenia.

Goth metal is either enchanting or unbearable. Just like goth women. :lol: Anyway, Type O Negative is the standard everyone else tries to follow but only few manage. Sins of Thy Beloved has some good, eerie stuff as well, and so does Lacrimosa.

I guess Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson fall more into the industrial category, but I still insist on expressing my admiration here.

Nu-metal, and Love metal can both be respectively summed up in a single smilie:

:vomit: and :rolleyes:

Yeah... When I said Metallica was the best "hard rock band ever" I really meant it. I agree with curt - the earliest albums of Metallica are true metal, actually I consider their "kill'em all" to be a pure-metal album.

Uh… Darkthrone, Feikn, Dark Tranquillity, Denial of God, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir… You guys get the picture… I like Black Metal. I kindda’ like rap too… and all other sorts of music, strange huh?

Korn is very much metal
I love Korn, i've saw them a few months ago, and i'd call them nu-metal:cool:

Alot of the music I like is very metal influenced and orientated, but often it is difficult to define these bands, for example Deftones are my favourite band, and many people call them nu-metal, but they really do not fit into the same genre as groups like Linkin Park or Papa Roach.

Music develops over time, I think the term 'modern metal' is good for describing bands like Deftones, Korn and System Of A Down.

I love metal too. Listenin to some right now. Linkin Park, Korn, Metallica, ACDC, System of a Down, Disturbed, Saliva, Taproot, and Staind are my favorites.
How I personally would describe these:

Linkin Park - Nu-metal/Rap-metal
Korn - Nu-metal
Metallica - Metal
ACDC - (I don't really know much about them actually)
System Of A Down - Modern Metal
Disturbed - Nu-Metal
Saliva - Nu-Metal
Taproot - Nu-metal
Staind - ermmm...there trying to be Grunge but there not so...:confused:

To begin with:
Heavy metal... early Black Sabbath, Mettalica... Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc (all teh bands already listed be CurtSibling)
Korn and all this s***... nothing... they aren't good musicians, are only interested in money... don't have attitude... etc.

I don't care what any of you say, SOAD ****ing rulez!
Here's my little list
System Of A Down
Linkin Park
Korn
Taproot
Slip Knot
In Flames(a swedish band)
Soundgarden(Audioslave sucks IMHO)
CHE-****in-VELLE....CHEVELLE!!
Adema
Full Devil Jacket! Memphis band that's awesome, should download some of their songs.
Alice in Chains
TOOL of course

i'm really a lover of all kinds of musik, well except for ****in country. that **** really sucks the donkey's balls. I have over 650 songs on my computer right now lol, thats on a 56k also :p

Oh yeah forgot Metallica, i love their old and "new" stuff.
Also SOAD is consider Nu-Metal..

Anyhow, my favorite metal band has got to be SoAD (System of a Down). Very talented group. Best thing that ever came out of Armenia.

Referring to Slayer, Pantera in Furry Spatula's post.

That does seem to be the theme of this thread. It's not cool music unless I'm the only one aware of its existence. An umlaut helps as well. I'll bet if I posted the following list in a non-sarcastic way, at least one person would respond with 'Yeah, I like them too!'

* BeaterStew
* Malicious Orange
* Rat SplEen
* DeathCone
* daeD sesuJ
* The Lovin' Spoonful (Oh, wait - that was a band...)

Personal favourites include:

Black Sabbath
Sepultura
Soulfly
Pantera
Korn

I dont care wat era, age or where a band comes from. Thats rubbish. I could call most of Black Sabbaths songs 'new' to me, because ive only recently started exploring their music. I listen, and if i like, i like!

Powers, you are a funny guy in a sick, sarcastic, sort of way. That reminded me of all the neopunkers in the 80's and the "alternative" scene. They despise the rest of people for not knowing their favorite band, and hate them even more when they find out about them and become "posers"

Anyway, Metal can be very fun and great at times. I prefer to diversify my tastes, but will give any band a listen.

I tend to like my metal blended with other styles to a greater or lesser extent. Indeed most of the legendary metal bands of yore leave me pretty cold to be honest, although I do have a certain soft spot for Slayer :D

A few examples of the metallic crossbreed type bands that I really enjoy listening to are:

Faith No More
Mr Bungle
Dillinger Escape Plan
Isis
Neurosis
Ministry
Melvins
Fantômas
Tool
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum

Back
Top Bottom
