Well, after quite some time I'd like to start again on an Succesion Game. Here's my (new?) variant:

We are isolationist and neutral (no wars with more than one civ allied) or passive (never incite a war, exception: 1 war in each age allowed). Isolationist means:

- No exploring. None of our unit will ever leave our border. Exceptions: They are accompanied by a settler on a colonization mission. We are at war with another civ; in this case we are allowed to move our units to where our enemy is.

-No trading of non-military techs (the ones that give new units).

Does this variant exist somewhere already? I never heard of it. Now to the game:

What civ?
I would like to have scientific, but no Germans, Byzantians or Ottomans (just played them). The choices left would be: Sumer, Persia, Russia and Babylon. Russia is definately out (expansionistic is not quite worth it with this variant), Persia is played often and a too god civ (I think) which leaves Sumer and Babylon, I'm not in the mood for them at the moment, so I would propose France (because I haven't played with them for a while). So, what civ would you prefer?

What map?
Continents, 70% water, rest random would be the most promising map. Opinions?

What difficulty?
I would like to do Emperor or Monarch whichever you want.

-------------------------------------------------------------
map: standard continents, 70% water, rest standard
difficulty: Monarch
Civ: Greece
72 hours to play&post
pursued victory: open to discussion

Roster:
A. mitsho
B. rowandlife
C. Sieg
D. DaveShack
E. cizzlewalk

Sounds interesting at either difficulty. I'll usually need 72 hours to play & post.

if don't explore how to do city planning? :crazyeye:
should be able to walk around near the cities or will have to wait forever.

72 hours are ok with me, I don't plan to hurry either.
@akinkhoo I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. But our expansion will look the following: We buil a settler/spearmen pair (or alike) and then send them over the border where we suppose to find the best land and then we settle according to what looks most promising. so there will be no dotmaps (well, somehow there are), because we will just know the map to maximum two tiles away from our border, so no city planning.

Is Jeanne ok? Victory conditions: everything's possible.

Hmm. I'd like to get into this game. It'd be my first succession game. I'd ask for Monarch level, I'm not advanced enough for emperor.

Civ-wise, I'd rather not play with the French. For some reason, I just don't like them. If you want scientific, I'd play Sumeria or Persia, but since you don't seem to want those... maybe Greece? They're scientific and commercial...

EDIT: Also, Korea has the same traits as Greece, if you don't want to play with Alexander.

Greece sounds ok to me, monarch is ok too. continents, 70%, everything else at standard (map size too). I'm going to provide some starts this afternoon (can't really do this from this computer... :D). So, we need a fourth person (if I got rowandlive correct?).

You did. I'm in.

I haven't played either France or Persia for a while, and worry that Greece will give us an early GA due to us playing defense. Even though I would prefer Persia (ACTIVE defense), it has the same problem, and so think that France would be best for this effort. They're not ideal, but best for an extended passive defense scenario, and still having a better-timed GA.

Well, maybe I'm just lucky, but unless I'm playing a tiny map, I don't usually have a problem getting to republic before having war declared on me. Also, the Greeks have alphabet already, which would help out our case.

So, welcome on board Dave Shack. The Game will begin soon. As to the dispute of French versus Greeks, I decided to make it easy. I rolled 6 starts, three for the pink and three for the green guys (and girls). They are not 'uber'starts, but more or less the first few rolls. Since it's monarch i thought this would be reasonable.. ;). Now, what's your opinion?

I myself would prefer French C or B, but it would not bother me to roll a few more starts, since these are really not 'uber'. :)

I like Greek B, but it might just be my preferences. Roll a couple more starts, if need be.

French C or B. They're all playable, but the Greek starts are too easy.

I myself would like to give French C a try, this vote together gives:

Greek B - II
French B - II
French C - II

which gives us quite a dilemma. As thread opener I thus ask if we should try French B, the start most of us could agree on somehow?

Mitsho, it's been too long my friend :P

Too bad you don't have a 5th spot, it would have been like old times playing another SG together.

Please do.

Incidentally, I for one do not mind a fifth player. The decision is yours.

No problems with me on adding one more player.

As for the start, I can work with French B.

It seems I'm now officially part of this lovely SG. I'll happily bring up the end of the roster. :)

BTW, I'm all for the French B position (settling on spot).
