Turn 1.
CoL drops a turn.

IT-
*Orleans spear-- settler
*Lyons spear-- worker

Turn 2.
o

IT- 2 barbs show up in east, need to protect worker.

Turn 3.
o

IT- Indians show up in the north and pop that hut.

Turn 4.
India is up plenty of techs, but don't have writing. I don't want to trade them anything yet. They are also the same size as us.

IT- Indian warrior roughs up the barbs in the north.
*Lyons worker-- spear

Turn 5.
o

IT- Another Indian warrior shows up in the east.

Turn 6.
Can't find a good place to settle so I head north.

IT- o

Turn 7.
Still moving that settler.

IT-
*Paris spear-- spear

Turn 8.
o

IT- o

Turn 9.
o

IT- Culturally expand in Paris and we spot red borders in our north!
*Orleans settler-- settler

Turn 10.
I finally found a spot to settle in our north, go ahead and build our 3rd city there. Our other settler/spear pair is traveling east... do with him what you will.

Code of Laws in 5. Seems the gamble paid off. :)

Any thoughts on TGL city? Do we need it?

mmm... isolation.

So, it's my turn again, will play tomorrow.

what was your motivation not to trade? As I see it, we probably would need it (or not?). The game seems to be going fine. Trying to get the Republic and settling as before, nothing special...

nn

I didn't want to trade writing until we've STARTED philosophy. I have no clue how many other civs India knows... so it would mean the AI would have that slight advantage over us. Hope I have not angered thee, Mitsho. Ich bin ein schlecte anfanger. :)

Quick note:

I live in Texas near Houston, far enough away that I shouldn't have too many problems with the hurricane, but I probably will lose power for an indefinite period of time, so unless I come back before my turn, I'm asking for a skip.

Our prayers go out to you Sieg, come back to our SG in one piece bro.

By the time you come back, I'm certain we'll have founded another city. :/

Good luck and ok, sieg... ;)

@cizzlewalk, I wasn't critizising at all, I'm not a better player, it just interested me, the problem is the longer we wait the less we get for writing and when we only know one civ, it would be worth a thought to giv up this little advantage ('worth a thought', not better!). But since we are that far into the game, we can actually wait another five turns before trading away writing.

1500 BC:
Correct spelling of Lyon, see that the Indians are in our territory and that we see a red civ in the distance (Rome?).

1450 BC:
settling Reims which starts a barracks (as a prebuild)
Paris build spearmen, continues on settler (last settler from Paris!)
Lyon as well.
Eastern settler team turns a bit North.

1425 BC:
Tours is settled, it may not be the ideal spot, but this way we can still buil another city in between the Roman city --> worker
adjust slider to get more gold, col due in 1.

1400 BC:
Philosophy due in 9 with +0, we have 17 gold. Next turn it's diplomacy time.
Reims is linked up.

1375 BC:
Move workers and thus meet Rome:
They are the same size as us, and up a few technologies. Situation is:
Rome is up: Pottery, the Wheel, Warrior Code and Iron working -- 10 gold
India is up: Pottery, the Wheel, Warrior Code, Iron working, ceremonial burial, mathematics -- 62 Gold. However they seem to be at war with someone, as they only have 3 cities.

I just realised that we are not allowed to buy or sell non-military techs, so we are not allowed to trade writing/code of law And with our 17 gold, noone wants to give us anything. Thus press 'space'

1350 BC:
A Barbarian horsemen treats a worker of ours, move spearman to defend him. Another barb camp is visibly from a mountain top just next to our borders, but the Romans seem to take care of the Khazaks.

1325 BC:
Paris: Settler --> spearmen; Settler/spearmen move north
Barbarian settler are now all over France

1300 BC:
Barbarian horsemen attack settler and is dead, the other barbarian units are still a nuissance.

1275 BC:
Barb unit is killed by one of our spears,
Orleans settler --> spear
Indians are apparently building the oracle

1250 BC:
Found Marseille --> barrack prebuild

1225 BC:
Eastern Settler pair discovers blue border (Germany?), now we know who has been decimating India.
adjust slider to +2 gold,

1200 BC
two barb units dead
Paris: spear --> Mausoleum of Mausolos ( just a proposition, we get philosophy only next turn) /settler onto that point.
Lyon: settler --> barracks
We are allowed to build our palace, I decide European style and build the throne room

I'm undecided where to move the Eastern settler, next one shall decide!

Rowandlife is up, good luck!

Here's the save

I have it, and will play tonight.

I got the weak side of the hurricane. Didn't even lose power. :goodjob: So, yeah, I can do my next turn.

Philo came in for us, and we won the free tech. As much as I'd love to take Republic, just due to the cost and the economic advantages (we're neutral and passive, right?), I think that we don't have a choice except to grab the GLib so that we can keep up in tech. It doesn't look hard, as none of the locals have writing yet, so their not an immediate issue, but our build time well exceeds the time it'll take them to get writing and lit.

I'll hold here for feedback until tomorrow evening.

Glad to hear that you were spared, Sieg.

The point about getting the GLib is a good one. I was thinking it would be impossible to keep up in tech if there is no trading of non-military. The GLib won't help for long but it's better than nothing.

Well, as far as this is on monarch, I think we could do it without the Glib, but of course it is better. Well, we can start the prebuild pyramids or mausoleum, and start researching writing. The fact that it is easier to build something in republic should help us also.
Which city would be the wonder city? Lyon probably, not?

mfG nn

I much rather grab Republic with the free tech. If we go into a Republic, we can build the Great Library faster, plus, Literature takes much less time to research than Republic, at least, it has for all of my games. Lastly, you've said that no one has writing, so we'll still probably have more time to research and start building the Great Library. Remember, even if they get lit while we're building, it'll still take 'em time to build it, since I've never seen an AI prebuil. So I'm for grabbing Republic and then switching to literature.

So it is 2 for getting Republic, and 2 for getting Literature, while the second vote for lit sounds undecided. cizzlewalk had the decisive vote. but i would really really promote going for republic, this gives us a huge advantage.

1200 – 0
Reset prefs. MM Reims from furs to irrigation, and it gets us faster growth without losing gold or shields. MM Orleans from mine to mined wheat to get faster growth without losing gold or shields. Tours looks out of place by 1 NE. Why is it not on the river? This way the second oasis is wasted, as no city can reach it, and neither gets the sugar. Perhaps on the river, with another on the coastal hill would have been better.
Found Chartres in place > rax as a prebuild for a preferred temple. Arne forts.
Germany still doesn’t show up on the list yet.

IBT: 2 BWs suicide on our spears. Roman archer on border near Marseille. Indian warrior stays in. Philo > Republic (free) > Wheel in 5. We really need to try for the GLib, so I will do Lit next.
Tours worker > worker.

1175 – 1
Change Paris to worker in 1 from settler in 5, grow in 2.
Claudette W, Marie roads, Berge & Jeanette NE, Gustav & settler S. Politely ask Ghandi to leave.

IBT: India leaves. Archer to mtn.
Paris worker (Adele) > Pyramid prebuild.

1150 – 2
Claudette roads, Gustav & settler S, Anne E, Jeanette roads, Adele S-SW-S.
Revolt to Republic, and draw 6 turns.

IBT: BH appears S of Paris.

1125 – 3
Gustav -1 kills a BH, Dakkar founded on what I hope is fresh water with a BG & dyes > walls, Adele W, Anne roads, Arne SE to expose Germany.
As expected Germany is exposed, except that it’s Korea. They also do not have Lit either, so we have a lead on Lit / GLib.
Korea has Pot, Wheel, WC, CB, IW, Math, down Writing. They have 4 cities.
I thought for sure we could sell all our techs, but only to gain Military techs…

IBT: Barb galley near Orleans. Roman archer / setter pair heads E.

1100 – 4
Adele roads, Gustav to Dakkar, Arne to Chartres.

IBT: workers are VERY slow – anarchy %$*^!

1075 – 5
Marie SE (oops), Arne forts, Gustav forts.

IBT: Roman elite W has been barb hunting N of Reims.

1050 – 6
Berge & Jeanette 2E, Claudette N, Marie S
Korean border E of Tours.

1025 – 7
Jeanette, Marie & Claudette road,

IBT: Paris riots > taxman, MM through to make sure.
Republic comes in. MM through again & prevent Orleans > taxman

1000 – 8
Berge to Marseille, Jean toward Paris

IBT:

975 – 9
Jean to Paris, but it doesn’t help. Need to get dyes hooked up.
Anne E, Berge forts, Adele S
MM to 40% science for Wheel still in 2, but at +15gpt, lux to 10% to drop 2 taxmen, going to +10gpt.
Change Orleans to settler in 3, grow in 4 (need to keep pop down to keep from pumping lux more). MM Paris from grow in 3 to grow in 5, dropping prebuild to 50 turns and giving us time to hook up dyes.

950 – 10
Marie NW, Claudette N-2W, Jeanette 2W-SW, Anne roads, Adele roads

Priorities:
- get Claudette & Jeanette down to Dakkar to hook up dyes quicker! This will allow dropping lux & faster city growth. This is the most important task!
- mine hills / max shields at Paris to prevent loss of GLib!
- wheel due in 1 to expose horses (I hope), then go for lit & WC.
- Paris prebuild is at 50T to Pyramids, which is same for GLib. Lit will take 14.
- get rax up in other cities to build some horses & spears
- Chartres needs temple ASAP (rax is prebuild), and Marseille & Reims too to prevent flips
- dot priorities – pink, red, green, yellow (small)

After more analysis, I've concluded that our start on GLib won't be enough. We really need to max out shields, and perhaps add some workers (& happiness) to pump up production. We'll also need to find some land with more chance for hills / iron.

Got it, will try and work on it tomorrow.

EDIT: Actually, I may need to skip after all. They're trying to get power restored everywhere, but in the process, they've shut down power to other areas, like mine. Until these random power outages stop, I can't really play.
