Micro Challenge 7

@izuul
Spoiler :

It seems that something is amiss prior to whipping that city. There is always some extra hammers wasted. Although i did manage to tweak it into a perfect whip, i am losing food in the end

Spoiler :

Well the thing that bugs me most is that my best method (rice then mine and slow build granary at 2 results in 31/32 food and 61/60 hammers for granary but I don't see a way to trade just 1H for 1F. Switching from iron to rice in first two turns can trade 2h for 2f but then the granary comes up 1h short.

This is as far as I've gotten at the moment. 70 pop but not yet perfect food count

Spoiler :
City Pop Food WMs
One 7 29
Two 8 29
Three 7 16
Four 8 27
Five 10 28
Six 9 18
Seven 7 16
Eight 7 28
Nine 5 19
WM 2 7 16
Total 70 217
I have no idea wich of the cities require more food for perfect ammount

Huh. I couldn't get slow building on rice first to work when I was looking at it before.

But then... when I try something like what you describe, I end with 31/32 food... but I built the granary with a perfect 60/60.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean by "slow build... at 2" since my granary doesn't finish until size 3.

Ah, I think I figured out what Izuul was doing, and found a way to get 31/32 food and 61/60 on the granary. Then you can trade 2 hammers to get the 2 more food by swapping iron for rice for a turn at the beginning so that you would have 59/60 on the granary....

And now there's an "obvious" way to trade 2 food to regain that hammer later on (although I did have to jiggle things to make it a 2-1 trade rather than a 3-1 trade). I hadn't made it work on other builds, but things align to make it work for this one. Final: 7 pop 16 food.

Nice I'll have to experiment when I get back home and get that extra food on the iron city. Pretty sure I know what to do but I haven't been able to play all day.

@GKey/pomthom
Sure I'll wait a bit more before posting. I have not processed the videos in any case.
You can always post the food counts before posting the actual micro so that we know what to aim for?

How do you guys know what the "perfect food" count is?

OMG...

Spoiler :
I had used so many methods on City #7 (and so many of them resulted in 31/32F) i couldn't remember which one resulted in the 61/60 granary. It took me at least 30 minutes to come across it again, but as soon as i did it was very easy to tweak it to yield an extra food.

I now have the extra same results that Ric posted.

Silly..
Spoiler :
I played around with this Iron city, all kinds of 61/60 and 60/60 granaries and always short. Either i was too stupid, or the solution makes not much sense. Disappointing either way, not sure i will ever spend time again on similar micro stuff this really bugs me now..

There we go, finally done with it.
Spoiler :
City Pop Food WMs
One 7 29
Two 8 30
Three 7 16
Four 8 27
Five 10 28
Six 9 20
Seven 7 16
Eight 7 28
Nine 5 19
WM 2 7 16
Total 70 220
Now this sure was something different.. never would have come up with that solution if I didn't know wich cities needed more food.

Fantastic, our first success
Spoiler :

I initially read a post by oyzar a long time ago with the idea, but somehow it only resurfaced recently after a comment I read by Fippy, I think.

Post in question is below. Spoiler alert :p

Spoiler :
I honestly didn't realize the avoid growth button functioned in that manner. The thought of avoiding growth came to me early on while working on both city 2 and 6, but i thought i had to manually avoid growth by swapping tiles and the results sometimes just don't work.

I only used this trick on 2 cities though, not 3.

Edit: Apparently this also works on iron city, though i found another very convoluted way of getting the same result.

Spoiler :
It works on all 3 and is a lot less micro to get it right though. My notes for Iron city are literally just 5 actions with turn numbers.

Just shows how much knowledge is available on these forums and not commonly known.

Spoiler :

Finally, got the size 7-16 in #7!

@Kossin
Spoiler :

I was able to produce 7-29 in #8 yesterday, but I was not able to replicate it.

Maybe I was drunk or something...

Funny thing about the iron city...

Spoiler :
There are about 4 different methods that get within 1-2 food of each other including not even bothering to mine the iron at all! Also iron first until granary and rice first then iron at size 2 and slow build granary both return the exact same food... at least the way i have been doing it.

Spoiler :
I am pozitive, ignoring iron is a key here

Finally able to produce 70 pop with perfect food count

Although i generated a 7-29 once in #8 sure bothers me.

can anyone help me understand how watermill work, please? I never understand where I can build a watermill. I thought the only requirement is riverside, but apparently that's not the case.
