Micro Challenge 7

Spoiler :
Squeezed one more food out of #7, but I'm still 6 + 31/32 there.

Edit: Haven't been able to replicate this, maybe i forgot to revolt to slavery or something... i don't know.

2nd edit: I did manage to duplicate this.

About getting 16 watermills done...
Spoiler :
Is it even possible without training an extra Worker? (at pop. 1 turn 17)

Spoiler :

You do need an extra worker:

26 turns * 5 workers = 130 worker-turns

13 grass windmills * 8 worker-turns per windmill
+ 3 desert windmills * 10 worker-turns per windmill = 134 worker-turns

but you do have options other than training one from turn 1....

(edit: missed the parenthetical in the quoted post)

Oops. I started recording the solutions I had and found a mistake in my table summary. It does not change the population limit, however it makes getting the perfect food count a bit harder :aargh:. I'll finish recording before updating the scores I've been giving in case I made more mistakes.

EDIT: after going through my notes, that was the only mistake I did. So...

@Izuul
Spoiler :
7/10 ;)

It's the same trick in all 3 cases... it was a discovery for me too!

Wait with solution please! Only need to find time and deal with this focusing on single city each time.

Well that's interesting. Did i actually have 6/10 when i posted initial results or was it just 5/10 due to the mistake in your table?

OK here goes ladies and gentlemen :smoke: Champollion anyone?
OK interesting, basically
Spoiler :
Dhoomstriker explains that if you build a WM on a tile with several rivers, there is a priority in "river allocation", and that South has a higher priority than West. So yeah, start with tiles with just 1 river then tiles with just 1 river left etc (what kossin said :crazyeye:)

However the explanation is missing all the priorities. If a tile has a river on each of its 4 sides, on which side will the WM be built if none is already occupied by another WM? Which next tile if that first one is already occupied...etc

Could someone complete? It should be easy to test but I don't have access to the game right now.

Watermill spoiler...
Spoiler :
s-w-n-e

The other key element is that the next tile over in that particular orientation cannot have a watermill at all, regardless of which river it is on. For example, say you have a tile with 3 possibilities, S-W-N, and the S and W rivers already have watermills from other tiles. The watermill will be placed on the N side of the tile and there must not be a watermill on the tile to the N either, even if the watermill for that tile is on a different non-competing river.

I stopped trying.. ~10 hours total without success in getting 70 instead of 69 = enuf :b
From sneaking in 1 turn of farms on 2 tiles before moving (2 steps) on iron, copper or whatever..or building farms and completely ignoring some tiles, to crazy thingies like warrior whips (*that* ofc made everything worse :lol:)..
i give up before i go crazy.

@Izuul
I only updated your last table, I believe the one prior is 5/10 yes.

@GKey/pomthom
Sure I'll wait a bit more before posting. I have not processed the videos in any case.

@Fippy
Don't go crazy just yet :p

Funny thing about the iron city...

Spoiler :
There are about 4 different methods that get within 1-2 food of each other including not even bothering to mine the iron at all! Also iron first until granary and rice first then iron at size 2 and slow build granary both return the exact same food... at least the way i have been doing it.

that's alright, i went as far as training settlers hoping that it will add the pop count only to realize that each island is only 3 tiles radius

bah! i'll just automate the workers, maybe it will do the trick

@izuul
Spoiler :

It seems that something is amiss prior to whipping that city. There is always some extra hammers wasted. Although i did manage to tweak it into a perfect whip, i am losing food in the end
