Middle-earth: Lord of the Mods

And he is a King, no less :)

I tried really hard to get the Kandori by Cam in, but he was deemed to be wearing too much armor for Middle Earth. Yours ended up being just the compromise we needed.

Wait.... It's actually out? Pinch me, I must be dreaming.

I kept seeing this thread over and over today, and every time I saw it, I just told myself, "Ah, it can't really be Lord of the Mods. It's probably just some cheap imitation", and I would pass over it without a glance. And then I actually click it, and I suddenly realize that I'm going to be spending the entire night sitting in front of a computer screen.:D

I am of the opinion the game needs more wonders overall but especially in the 2nd to early 3rd era.

Here are some ideas I have compiled:

Ar-Pharazôn's pillar at Umbar. A symbol of Dúnadanic might revered by both Gondorians and the Black Númenóreans, it could have cultural and perhaps military benefits.

Speaking of Ar-Pharazôn, maybe his ill-fated flagship Alcarondas, known as the "Castle of the Sea", could be construed as a wonder?

It's Third Age, but the Bridge of Tharbad might be a commercial wonder.

Craftsmen of Nogrod: The greatest of the Dwarven smiths (Techar being the best of them all).
-- Though I guess we do have the "Great Forge" which really encompasses this.

Galvorn -- Metal first made by Eol. Hard as the steel of the dwarves, but so malleable it could be thin and supple, and still remain resistant to all blades and darts. It was black and shiney.

We should have a wonder which produces a small number of powerful hound units for the Noldor. There were more than one, of which Huan was cheif. They could be called the Hounds of Celegorm/Valinor or the Valar.

If have been trying to get werewolves and vampires (fell bat unit -- mean different things to Tolkien than general folk lore) to be used as the tracker units for Mordor and Angmar. If not, they should have a wonder which produces them.

Annon-in-Gelydh, the Gate of the Noldor -- A dark, secret tunnel beneath the mountains leading to Cirith Niniach, the Rainbow Cleft. It would be neat if this allowed the building of some sort of airport between two cities for instant transport. Possible with 2 small wonders.

Make it an earlier wonder... second era at the latest. This will prevent HUGE distances being traversed. I usually do not have entire continents conquered until the third era.

Giving the Noldor two small wonders for the Gate of the Noldor is a
fine way to go... but I think we should find ways to give something
similar to at least a few other civs as I think the Noldor get enough cool,
unique things as it is.

The hobbits and dwarves, with their limited movement could really use
small wonders like this
. For the Hobbits, you could use the Brandywine
River (Baranduin: The Brown River). Perhaps call it the 'Brandywine
Ferry' and the other 'The Brown River Port'? The dwarves built a great
road into Beleriand from underneath the shoulder of Mount Dolmed,
following the River Ascar, crossing the Gelion at Sarn Athrad (the Ford of
Stones) from the Blue Mountains. 'Dwarf-road' it is called and the other
could be the 'Ford of Stones'.

One could be available to the Northmen as well... The Crossing of
Teiglin, and the second could be Tur Haretha, the Lady-barrow, Huad-en-Arwen where Lady Haleth was buried. This is the region given over to men by Thingol.

Rivers and bay could be used if you wanted other civs to have them as well: Two major rivers in Numenor -- Siril and Ninduine which flowed into the Bay of Eldanna.

The northmen could also have a SW producing actual female warriors, the
'Man-hearted' who were women who took up arms with Emeldir, wife of
Barahir (and mother of Beren), during the war of Beleriand -or- they could
seve as scout or tracker type units as they had traversed mountains and
outlasted the men.

Second is better, as this takes place in the First Age.

In an effort to make Numenor a little more unique (and more playable)
from the other high mannish civs, towards the end of the second era with
the building of Armenelos, the Golden (temple), Numenor should be able
to enslave and sacrifice workers... of which they did in great
abundance.

Meneltarma, the Pillar of Heaven (Hallow of Eru) -- Temple to Illuvatar and was the *only* temple in Numenor until Sauron and his temple to Melkor.

Numenor was big on tombs, and the Tombs of the Kings was their greatest. The wise men or Numenor were always strinving to discover the secrets of immortal life, or at least prolonging it.

Nimloth was the seedling of the White Treee in Numenor.

The King's Sceptre gets mentioned a lot.

The Caves of the Forgotten are where the Numenarean's (who traveled to Valinor) are said to be imprisoned until the Last Battle and the Day of the Doom.

Aldarion established a guild of seafarers, which became one of the most powerful organizations in Numenor.

Tar Meneldur built a tall tower upon the mountain of Sorontil for star watching -- obvious science bonus wonder.

Thoughts?

Tar-Minastir --- Why leader? Did little outside of aiding Gil-Galed
against Sauron. Consider instead, Elros (Tar-Minyatur), half-elven (brother of Elrond), was
the first king of Numenor and ruled longer than any other King (425
years or so) or the last king, Ar-Pharazon who ruled when Numenor was at
the height of its power. He moved against Sauron, forcing him as a
captive and later brought about the ruin of Numenor by sailing out against
the Valar. Both would be better choices than Tar-Minastir.

I agree with that. When I first opened up the BIQ to look at the Civilizations, I was like huh? Tar-Minastir? I was expecting the obvious choices of either Tar-Minyatur or Ar-Pharazon to be the Numenorean leader.

Awesome! At last it's here! Congratulations to everyone:) Thanks for making this! I have a (If I say so myself) rather good map of Arda that I will update, hopefully before this evening is out! Will post again when its done, for anyone who wants to use a fairly good map:)

Thanks! Maps will be most welcome, especially when we can work on a scenario (you know, another 5 years or so).

Chris85: I think Ar-Pharazon will be the best choice as his personal history as leader exemplifies Numenor as a civ very well. From greatness to hubris to destruction.

Second is surely better, as the first is clearly a Renaissance-or-later styled unit.

I'm not so sure, it strikes me as similar to making Hitler the leader for Germany in the epic game. I'd be cool with Ar-Pharazon if we had a 2nd Age of the Sun scenario (Just as Hitler is the only choice for Germany's leader in WW2), but as a figure who should rule Numenor throughout all time, I'd stick with one of the "Tar"s!

Yes!!!!!! Loved it. Hope you can get a map of middle earth soon!

Ok I'm downloading the update today. I'll update my maps and post them to the public asap. :)

(Sorry but I didn't do it before, but I had no time)

If Elros is a good compromise I am all for it :)

Hi,

I downloaded, looks really good. Maybe this is a bug just for me but I cant seem to micromanage any of the city tiles. For some reason I cannot click on a tile to release it and specify somewhere else to put it. I have tried with Isenguard and Rohan. Is this part of the mod or something broken my end?

Looks a fantastic mod, you have obviously spent an incredibily long time making it so congratulations.

Thanks,
Yaffle.

Definitely not a part of the mod. 1.13 works fine for me in this regard and I am hoping someone else might have a helpful tip for you. Perhaps simply reinstalling would help?
