Milking a Game

I've only ever milked a huge. My comment about no hospitals on standard was based on impulsive guess rather than experience.

.... and milking a huge map takes a loooong time.

If you want to maximize score, you will need hospitals. However, since you can build a maximum of 511 cities (512 minus 1 for the AI's), you can probaly get an HOF #1 without them, in practice. ;)

I think it would be hard to have 511 cities and stay under the domination limit. But, I'm no expert milker.

It's not difficult on a Huge Map......say with a Domination Limit of 4400+. That means every city, on average, would control 8+ tiles, including the City Tile.............Plus the "Free" Sea Tiles.

To optimize score(*), you would (eventually) disband many of the cities......their tiles being taken over by a nearby Metro city.

* A city tile on a grassland tile is potentially costing you 1.5 base points per turn. (Viz. A grassland tile within a city radius will potentially generate 3 base points: 2 for a Happy Person + 1 for a specialist.........The City Tile can only generate 3 food [at best] for 1.5 specialists......or 1.5 base points.)

Now a city placed on a Hill is "points neutral". (Viz. It cannot generate more points if the tile is within a city radius.) :)

....Plus the "Free" Sea Tiles.

Refresh my memory .... since I am about to start milking a game here for my third attempt to get a hof game that's actually accepted :wallbash:

so ... any culture area on a "sea" square doesn't count toward the domination limit but "coast" does?

Boy, these milk games are brutal.

I've started a huge demigod game - I figure I know I can handle any demigod AI and so it's worth spending the time.

So many tiles to improve.... so much jungle to clear.

So many size 20 cities riot when an AI takes away a luxury....

Ha, at least you can win your milk game...

In all honesty, I get what you mean. Milking can be boring during the worker move phase. I like all the other parts (especially taking over the world) more.

the problem I'm running into is that I'm combining the two phases.

A huge arch map on demi allows me to do both at once... but war turns AND managing 300 workers AND managing 200 cities... Boy, it takes a lot.

OR...you could be doing tiny aztec games, take your pick ;)

Try managing 884 workers and 500+ cities! (Kudos to CivAssist II & CRpMapStat utility programs.)

But, I'm just playing the game at Chieftain level, so no significant war management required.

If you want to take more naps at the keyboard, this is the type of civ game to play!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! :)

well, crap.

Huge, demigod milk game, as iroquois vs. scientific civs.

1400 AD, I've taken out Sumeria, Russia, Korea, Ottoman's and Germany, and persia is down to a 1CC. Greece is pretty strong and Babylon is a minor player. I'm at the dom limit and I have a bunch of cities on the greek homeland which I'm trying to reinforce.

Greeks break a trade agreement taking away my dyes, take 8 towns, kill 2 armies and some infantry, destroy 15-20 bombers and throws my cities into civil disorder.

I'm going to let this sit for awhile, but I think I'm gonna try again on another map. What a frustrating game. ever see a size 40 city in 60% weariness??? that's a lot of unhappiness....

Try Maya if you go again! Huge points if you can use industrious to expand faster and get more happy citizens. Javelins are easy for timed GA.

I know the feeling though. I have a Deity game right now that involves a runaway AI that is on the completely opposite side of the world, despite lots of initial fertile expansion for me. It's not often your fault; things happen and an otherwise great milk run is turned into a slugfest.

At least you are at the dom limit.

I don't mind the slugfest. It's the fact that everyone is pissed and it will take 10-15 turns to chew through the greeks, who have cavs. I can bomb their saltpeter into oblivion - it's just painful.

 Well then. Be quiet and go milk your game!

I was just pissed cause the greeks attacked me for no reason. All I was doing was building up a massive force to wipe them out, and they pre-empted my strike, the bastards!!

Stupid Dom limit.

Stupid civ assist, not telling me I'm about to expand and trigger a domination victory.

Stupid AT for not checking to make sure.

Stupid game. Why do I like Civ III????

How close were you running it - not doing a Bartleby and running it to the last tile were you?
