Mind Shuttering of the Alt Right

I've been trolling the comments section of Breitbart and similar cesspools for quite some time. Not continuously, or even frequently, but often enough to keep a finger on the pulse of the disgusting and vile. So I've noticed a trend. Comments that used to get me an assortment of namecalling foul mouthed dingbats raving wildly now seem to just be instantly dismissed with the same epithet; "paid Soros troll." I think one guy might have my name entered into an auto response bot, because his never varying reply is almost instantaneous sometimes.

It seems pretty clear that the word is out in the Alt-Right community that no one really disagrees with them, there are just people who are willing to pretend to disagree with them for payment, and they are really buying into it. This seems to be an escalation of the "you just aren't admitting you agree because you are being politically correct" and other self deceptions they use to convince themselves they are really representing the normal mainstream view.

Anyone else seen anything similar?

I think the "alt-right" is a great example of "no press is bad press". I had never heard anything about them until liberal media outlets starting freaking out about them being "white supremacists".

Anyways tim, maybe your comments are phrased in a way that is obviously trolling?

I've noticed a strong tendency amongst such a crowd to simply mirror the opponents' arguments of and accusations. Presumably it's easier than to come up with retorts of your own. Witness how Trump throwns around "fake news" around with abandon, ignoring that say the allegations of links between Purin and himself are a bit more substantive than pizzagate. That "paid Soros troll" thing could be mirroring the accusation Russia has employed paid trolls to support Trump.

Alternatively, there's also a growing tendency to believe that those who oppose your views do so out of malice. It isn't an honest disagreement, it's treason. It doesn't just exist amongst the populist right though.

The right knows the left is unreasonable and since the left holds no power anymore they're irrelevant - They don't care what you have to say.

To engage you in conversation is a waste of their time.

The right is shaping the future and the left is digging in it's heels desperately trying to maintain the status quo and the disaster they have created worldwide because to deviate from that would be an admission that their ideology and policies have failed.

No matter what the left does they have already lost and they only have themselves and their zealotry to blame. All they can do is cry about it now.

There's no doubt that I'm trolling there, and there never has been. The only thing that has changed is the response.

Like I said, I used to get a wide array of responses. Some people would try to present the alt right viewpoint through sensible argument...sort of similar to our occasional visitors who show up and explain how they aren't just blood drenched totalitarians it's just that genocide is the only solution. Some people would just launch into the usual "stupid ******* obviously doesn't have the education we have" lines. Other's would follow the usual "give us a big list o' links so we can tell you the New York Times is fake news and only Breitbart is a reliable source" bit.

Now it's like they have arrived at a uniformity. Anyone who isn't part of their Alt Right uber alles faithful isn't really a disbeliever, so there's no need to argue or even call names. Just mark them as taking a payment to not acknowledge that they are really "one of us" and move on. They seem to have successfully deluded themselves regarding their popularity with this bit of disinformation.

So essentially they look like this?

The 'alt-right' is another label to use against opponents like 'neo-con' was during the Bush years.

"Paid Soros troll" is the way to say "Shut up, I don't want to waste my time arguing with you", like "Racist/sexist/homophobic/islamaphobic/xenophobic" has been used by some for years.

I had plenty of "opponents" during the Bush years that the label "neo-con" didn't fit at all. Just like I have plenty of opponents now that the label "alt-right" doesn't fit at all. Generally I refer to the alt-right when i talk about trolling Breitbart because they are self labeled as the "mouthpiece of the alt-right."

I said 'some' because I wasn't referring to you. If I was referring to you I would have said you by name. Those that self-identify as alt-right is an extreme minority, but there are some people (should we call them the cesspool of the far left?) that will label anyone slightly to the right on any subject as an alt-righter, just like during the Bush years just about everyone on the right on this forum got called a Neo-con at some point.

Got it.

Can't agree with the 'extreme minority' bit though. The self identifying alt right are certainly not the majority that they think they are, but there's a fair bundle of them over at Breitbart.

I suspect it is wrong to think the collapse of civil discourse and the shuttering of minds happens only on the Right. It is wrong to complain about the mote in your neighbor's eye when you have a beam in your own. (But it is recreational to do so.)

John Cleese will no longer perform at American universities because of political correctness. Student group have forced right-wing speakers to cancel appearances. Real life is becoming like the Internet. We can spend days and days without ever facing a contrary opinion that might challenge our beliefs.

No doubt...especially in the US...there was a poll before the last election and the number of potential voters, on both sides, who said that they didn't personally know anyone who was voting the other way was absolutely stunning.

The birthers were so big on calling us Soros shills, that my fellow travelers at fogbow bragged about our per-post payments.

It's true. The alt right are a different breed. I even think I distinguished them from 'the true right', since there are so many points where they're not classically rightwing.

There are many times when dealing with the true right where I can show empathy for their heuristics. Not so much with the alt

But for Paul's point, I liked the term 'regressive left' when I saw it. It's a valuable description. I get sad when I see it as a slur, cuz it's being diluted as a useful word

I haven't hit Breitbart. Man, Andrew Breitbart must be rolling over in his grave at how Bannon warped his network. Anyway, I have seen "Paid Soros troll" or "Paid Soros Mouthpiece" on Youtube and FB but it's been a minority. Most of the time its "**** *******, grow a pair of balls you lib pussy" You know, the standard "I'm too dumb to come up with a reasonable, logical response" response.

Seriously though, I could use the cash, anybody gets the skinny on how to be a paid Soros troll I'm all in...that is, if they exist at all.

Seriously just reading the comments on Reddit is painful, no wonder Donald talks are a 4th grade level to hes supporters.
While you get the idea of the bubble and mentality of such people Iam sure exposing yourself to this will result in brain damage

A good thing is that some people have commented that After the Election "high" of winning the election, and the looming failures most of the comments have been dying off and all but the most delusional and fanatic remain
I suspect over time this slow attritional will erode the power of the Alt-right as reality sets in my many Trump supporters.

troll gets trolled and complains

news at 11

I have no complaints about being trolled. That's pretty much why I'm there and I can play rough and tumble with the best of them. This is about the content of the trolling. I contend there is a substantive difference between the usual "lots of people are too stupid to see the great truth we see" and the new "everyone really agrees with us even if they are paid to say they don't." The latter seems to be the prep work for a "no one will really oppose us if we..." style mission orientation. They already tell each other constantly that their little cadre is actually a majority, as anyone can see from the specimens that drag themselves in here from time to time. I'm just reporting on an escalation.
