Mine the sheep

Rommel, back off. You act as if everyone has been on this forum since it was created. A good graphic is a good graphic, and give the newer guys something to work with that they did not have before. Quit acting like a 20-year old playing soldier. Besides that, how are you getting away in Germany with what is clearly a WW2 combat uniform as your avatar? Before you were born, I was tossing guys out of wargame conventions here in the States for wearing WW2 German uniforms. There are not very popular amoung some groups here.

Wow, what a blatantly slanderous and ignorant post! I must say, I didn't think there were members like you here at this forum as well, but by god sir, you have proven me wrong (fortunately you are a very small minority).

First of all, I was merely informing him of the fact that some members don't like necroposting, and repeatedly doing so could get him warnings (although I didn't explicitly mention the warnings persay). I personally couldn't care less if people resurrect old threads but I wanted to inform him beforehand (i.e. prior to someone else flaming him for doing so) because I have also made the experience of accidentally necroposting when I first arrived (which is why I'm not lecturing, just passing on my own personal experience before he has to go through it as well). You make it seem like I was yelling (which is by the way impossible on the net) at him or using a similar aggressive manner to talk to him. I don't see any spot in my post implying a rude or unfriendly attitude towards Jediron, but you seem to have some super-natural power in identifiying the non-existant. And damn, I even took the time to add the smiley to the end of the post; is that worth nothing?!?!

And what the hell are you talking about it being a wonder that I have a German uniform depicted in my avatar?! Since when is this illegal? As far as I'm concerned, the German constitution only states that I may not use the swastika, S.S. symbol, and similar national socialist heraldry in public. No where does it state that anything standing in connection with WWII Germany is illegal. Therefore, I am perfectly in my constitutional boundaries. And even if I was explicitly depicting the swastika or other nazi periphanelia somewhere (which I do on some of my units), I am still not breaking the law since, 1) it is not used as glorification of the nazi regime and ideals, and 2) I am using it as a historical aid, since I definitely see the civ series as a form of learning history (take the civpedia for instance).

Oh and eh, what exactly is the problem with wearing German WWII uniforms?! It's not allowed for certain people to be proud of the efforts of German soldiers provided during WWII because they were "evil"? As far as I'm concerned, they were just as brave as any soldier fighting for their country, but you're picture of the world has obviously been so twisted and malformed by hollywood and similar institutions that you only view German vets as some devilish sub-human (yes, I used that term on purpose) hellbent on destroying the whole world in some kind of cataclysmic apocalypse. Sure, soldiers working in concentration camps back then essentially made up what we would all consider the scum of the earth, but I will not sit by and let you insult the bravery and courage that hundreds and thousands of German soldiers showed during the war. You have just as little right to do that as I would degrading the efforts of U.S. veterans.

For being older than me, you sure as hell show a lot of naiveté and ignorance. How about you start thinking outside the box for a change, because I guarantee you will see the world in a completely different way...and hell, you may even be able to adopt some ideas of your own rather than adopting ones that propaganda has forcefully seeded in you.

Now, before you post another reply, I ask that you stop your pointless arguing before we both get a warning...on second thought, do keep posting. That way you'll get a deserved warning for trolling and flame-baiting me for no apparent reason. I for one have nothing more to say to you.

timeover51 I have to agree with Gen. Rommel's response. Your comments were uncalled for and misconceived. Nobody jumped on the new guys comment instead he was advised that bumping posts without a virtuousness reason can lead to animosity by some members. Also a German uniform that is bereft of Nazi symbolism should not be misconstrued as evil. The vast majority of German soldiers fought bravely and distinguished themselves. Even today at West Point the works of Guderian and Rommel are still studied.

And I studied the German reports on fighting in the Far North when I was in the army in Alaska. That is not an endorsement of their government nor of their military. I had relatives who received a free one-way ticket to probably Poland in late 1942 or early 1943 from the Netherlands, courtesy of the German government. As for the convention I mentioned, the individuals who appeared and caused the headaches were wearing Waffen SS uniforms. However, one of the first guys that saw them was a member of the unit that received the fond attention of Joachim Pieper Waffen SS battlegroup at Malmendy in Belgium. I was under the assumption that the Waffen SS was not composed of the dregs of German society. I will respect an individual fighting in defense of his country. Precisely when did Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Yugoslavia, Greece, and the former Soviet Union attack Germany? For that matter, what did the citizens of Guernica do to deserve the prolonged and loving attention of the Luftwaffe during the Spanish Civil War?

He wants to play soldier, that is his business. I will neither respect or tolerate his decision. As for his comments about Hollywood, I am a military historian, and have spent a lot of time researching various aspects of WW2, including material from the National Archives in Washington, DC. My views are based on my research. Has Gen. Rommel ever read the records of the Nuremburg War Crimes trials? I would invite him to come to the States, and walk down the main street in Skokie, Illinois, and see precisely how much respect is accorded to a German military uniform. The German military fought in support of one of the most evil regimes that has existed. You fight to support something that is evil, you are equally guilty.

If you are truly a historian then you would realize that the vast majority of German Soldiers did not take up arms to fight for a regime or the ideology of that regime. I do believe you misinterpreted my post because of your own strong beliefs rather than looking at things subjectively. When did North Korea or North Vietnam attack the United States? I respect our military and am a veteran myself however from your line of reasoning the brave soldiers that served in those conflicts did not take up arms for there country. For that matter I guess you would need to brand me also since I carried the will of the US government in Central America and they never attacked the US. Yes there were fanatics in the death's head regiments however not every German soldier served in the SS. And even some of the SS were not without honor. And please do not say that the Luftwaffe bombing of civilians was a war crime because then every country that participated in WWII would then be culpable of war crimes. One of the goals set forth for the role of the bomber in the 30's and carried forward in time was the bombing of civilian population centers in order to break the will of the people to resist and seek peace under any terms possible. As far as I know people involved in War generally do not do anything to deserve the collateral damage that so often occurs. Politicians seek war as means to gain what they want in lieu of diplomacy. Soldiers do not make policy they are charged with carrying it out. Granted there are certain things taken into consideration like a lawful or unlawful order that was ignored by a small segment of the German military but that does not equate to their entire military.

That's pretty childish and not very observant, either. Or are you one of those backward, er..."spartan", sorts who think only females should have long hair? ;)

 The Spartans would eat you alive for that comment!!!

;)

Rommel was, himself, only warning the poor poster saying that if he does it again, a less friendly person might flame him. And what units Rommel makes is up to himself. Who he respects is up to himself, and for goodness sake, personal attacks like that should be beyond someone of your type timerover.

Jediron, I made this gfx five years ago. It's posted on CFC "as is", take it or leave it. :scan:

Everyone else: Shut the hell up already! This is not the thread for historical discussion! It's not even the right forum!

I like the graphic, just not sure if I will use it as a mine graphic or a resource graphic for sheep or both. Only problem with using it for both is keeping track of what is what.

I apologized to you for causing such a furor.

:bump: I've just realised that this is a made-for-vanilla file (my barricades disappeared) so i decided to upload a [c3c] version which can be found here. Enjoy!

I remember this thread! I've never posted in it. Amazing.

Thanks for the update, Taktak Malloy.

Thanks to you Takhisis I finally know who made this wonderful gfx I've been using (as a ressource) for a few weeks after I borrowed it from someone else's mod (can't remember which). Thank you mrtn for this and thank you Takhisis for the update !

You're welcome, people! Glad to be able to help (spent two horus trying to find a copy of resources.pcx after finding out to ym chagrin that I hadn't done a backup ). Recognition does modders good! :wavey:
