So I figure, why not start my own NES? And here's the restult. Basically it's based on the few NESes I've been in and those that I've observed. I've tried to take the best from all of them and come up with something that should be fairly enjoyable. I've made several changes here and there so I'd strongly encourage you read what follows.
This NES will start from 4000 BC. As time goes on, more technologies will become available, either through contact with minor peoples, or through advancement through education. You're allowed to start anywhere BUT America. So stick to Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Midde East. Let's get some of the simple rules down first.
The Army sizes go something like this: Miniscule, Tiny, Small, Standard, Large, Huge, Imperial. Training goes from poor, to average, to world-class. If you wish to increase your army, these are the options:
Increase one level, stay well-trained. (1 economy level)
Increase two levels, army falls to average. (2 economy levels)
Increase three levels, army falls to poor. (3 economy levels)
The above stated also works for your navy, and air force, when those become available.
You can also mobilize your army, which will take a certain amount of time. I'll weigh in factors such as your economy, army size, technology, etc. etc. When mobilized, you will be able to cause mroe damage to the enemy. When you choose to mobilize, this works on all 3 parts of your military. The problem is that mobilization can only last so long, and may have a negative affect on happines.
Speaking of whcih, your peoples mood changes depending on the position your empire is in. If the economy is good, war goes well, and your nation is prosperous overall, you wont have to worry about this. If you're getting your ass kicked, the economy sucks, and you've been in a war for a hundred years, bad things will happen. People's mood goes something like this:
revolutionary, angered ,unsattisfied , content, happy, overjoyed, worshipfull.
Worry not though, you can do stuff to increase the people's happiness such as build temple's or theatres, host sporting events etc. etc.
Meanwhile, your army's confidence you is something else. Going from mistrustful, to blind trust, the higher it is, the better results your army will achieve.
Education goes something like this: Barbaric, Stupid, Average, Intelligent, Intellectual. The higher your eduaction, the better your chances of advancing before the rest of the world in technology. For starters, everyone starts at stone age.
Economy is the usual. Depression, Recession, Slowing, Stable, Good, Prosperous, Booming
Oh, and the goverments. To keep it simple, it's just tribal and despotism. Tribal allows for hurried expansion but Despotism allows for greater control over things such as people's mood, army's confidence, etc. etc.
So here's the template. This is an example. When there are choices, you can choose. When there are no choices, that's how everybody starts.
Nation: Dolshkovia
Ruler: AAminion00
Goverment: Tribal/Despotism
Army: Tiny
Navy: N/A*
Air Force: N/A
Economy: Slowing
Education: Barbaric
Technology: Stone Age
Nations Mood: Content
Army Confidence: Standard
*fret not, you'll be able to build your war-ships soon enough. As of right now, you only know how to transport people on rafts.
I know it's a bit different from the other NES's, but I'm certain that once we get started, everything will be easy. It's just like the normal NES with one or two more things to worry about to keep it more interesting. So how about we start?
We'll be playing on the regular ole map everybody else uses.
