Missing In-Game Interface

When playing my game all of interface is invisible. So the links to my advisors, the mini-map, little flashing "end turn" button, and all the unit actions area is not visible on the screen. It isn't a different color, the map is visible and I can make movement counters go in that area. I can still access advisors by hotkey they just don't appear on the map.

Oh sorry. Forgot to mention that it's on the Rise of Mankind mod. :) So there's good news and bad news. Good news is that it works on Civilization 4. The bad news is that it doesn't work for Rise of Mankind.

Do you have BUG installed as a standard install? I know it conflicts with stuff like HoF Mod (makes the interface disappear there as well).

I am having a similar problem.

Recently decided to update to BtS v3.17 . Prior to any downloads, the game was working fine, no errors whatsoever.

Yesterday I downloaded and installed some other version of the Original Civ4, thinking it was the BtS one! After realizing my mistake, I went to download the correct v3.17, BtS one. I am not sure if the problem started after I installed the first patch I downloaded, or if it was from the 3.17 BtS one, but sure enough, all the text in game is there, but with no interface frames. I can play, but... it's kind of confusing having to click randomly to try and hit the "end turn" button... It almost looks like there's a whole skin missing!

Anyways. I'm not sure if the problem is a possible conflict between the two patches I downloaded or just a problem with the recent patch, but I sure hope the problem can be resolved without me losing my past games (And Hall of Fame, sigh!). Would be grateful for any help, since I'm somewhat of a dork in computers... :crazyeye:

welcome to cfc :band:

what does the about this build screen say?

Civ Version : 317
Save Version : 301
Built Version : 3.1.3.7. (104717)
Built Date : Mon May 19 09:20:10 2008
Built : FINAL RELEASE
Mod Name : None

Tell me he's gunna make it, doc! :cry:

ok so the patch is installed corrrectly.
now: did you by any chance minimize the Interface?

alt-i

would do that - try to see if it comes back - also try

ctrl - i

That was the first I tried... I originally thought I maybe pressed it by mistake last time I played, or maybe the patch had activated it somehow. But no, there is not a single interface frame at all, even in the opening menu. The letters are all aligned properly, but without the usual frames. :(

open the civilizationIV.ini in
my games\beyond the sword\
and set all items with log in their name from 0 to 1 then recreate the problem (start the game - go to where the interface is missing - exit the game) and post all items in
my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file attachment here :)

The interface is missing everywhere in the game... Started a 1 minute game and here's what it gave me... not sure if my log folder was empty or not before, but here's what it gave me!View attachment Logs.zip

Hope I did this right...

the interesting stuff is missing, make sure the .ini looks like this at the bottom:

; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = 1

; Enable synchronization logging
SynchLog = 1

; Overwrite old network and message logs
OverwriteLogs = 1

; Enable rand event logging
RandLog = 1

; Enable message logging
MessageLog = 1

; Break on memory allocation order #
BreakOnAlloc = -1

Windows XP. Guess that means a total re-installation is in order. :(

Any I can save savefiles and my hall of fame?

do the following:
make a copy of the following folders:
my games\<gamename>\Saves
my games\<gamename>\Replays
where <gamename> is Sid Meier's Civilization 4 and/or Warlords (if you have that) and/or Beyond the Sword
these folders contain your saves and your HOF - then do the below, if you do not have warlords ignore those parts. Once that is done: check whether the game works, if it does - move your saves and replays to their correct location in my games (there will already be one - just overwrite it :)

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.17 (download it fresh from here).

Finally! After a grueling 4 hours of uninstalling, upgrading, installing, patching and updating, my game is all up and running, and my saves and hall of fame intact! Just tested it now, and everything seems to work just fine! Not too sure where the problem was, but it's gone now! Thanks a ton, Ori you have a been a tremendous help! I'll keep you posted tomorrow if anything comes up.. but now I just want to head to bed!

Hi,

I am also having this problem with BtS. I just bought Civ4 and BTS from internet store which uses auto-installer and those downloaded files are pre-patched. Civ4 Vanilla works fine and actually BTS works too but certain parts of the interface are just transparent. For example advisor buttons work but they are just transparent which of course makes gaming a bit difficult. I already tried uninstall both games and load fresh files but it didn't help. If some one could help I'd be really greatful.
