MM10: Gandhi’s Mad Science. (0%-Science)

Pre turn:Change most cities to library since we are bleeding $$ at 0 science and don't really need more troops.

380: Moving troops.
360 Lyon Obelisk->Lib. Arebella out of resistance start library.
340: Move 4 nicely promoted troops up on Susa.
320: Capture Susa with no losses.
300: Mansu offers corn for gold. I don't think so he is our next victim.
280: ZZZ
260: Destroy small Persian town founded S of Susa
240-200: zzz

Well all that is left is the Persian Capitol. I say we take it. It is on a hill but if we bring 2.5x the troops we should be able to do it. It's culture is killing us and I don't think we should wait for cats. It will make a nice city for food in it's own right and define a nice boarder with Mansu. I left Paris off of scientist to try for a GE. Research is set to Alphabet for trading. We don't need CoL soon as we don't have many cities that have the food to take advantage of caste system. We need to goad some of the archers out of the Persian capitol. We have him surrounded but can't take it yet with all those archers. If you surround him I think he will attack. Or we can bring some weaker units up like even warriors and see if he will take the bait. I'd really hate to stop before taking him out.

IF there's an open spot, I'd love to take it.

Sadly I wont be able to do a turn set until sunday, that a problem? I dont have time on friday or saturday, but am cool all other days

Got it , will play tomorrow night.
Edit : Do i play 10 or 20 turns?

Took a quick look at the game , i hope the archers will take the bait.
6 archers with 85% defense not counting in CG upgrades is very hard to beat , i have to say i am really worried about Orleans only having a warrior to defend , have we seen any barbs in that area? Il probebly get the axe that will finish in Paris up there to go scout and clear some fog.

I played 10 turns since i wasnt sure , if i had to play 20 i can play 10 more tomorrow.

Turn 0 200BC:
Everything looks good , Paris still needs 45 turns for a engineer so thats a really long time to go without a scientist there , i dont hire 1 yet though.
It at least needs to grow a bit first .
I really fear for our safety at Tarsus and Orleans , Tarsus is near a barb city and only has 1 spear while Orleans is around a lot of FOG so barbs may show up there also and it is only defended by a warrior.

Turn 1 180BC:
Paris : axe > granery
7th archer ready at Persepolis(PP)

Turn 2 160BC:
Start moving our warrior to PP.
1 archer leaves PP
IBT : Persian archer attacks our warrior and loses.
Isabella comes knocking to cancel our deals with Mansa , i refuse.

Turn 3 140BC:
Try to use the wounded warrior covered by a sword as bait.
IBT: Mansa comes offering corn for gold , i accept

Turn 4 120BC:
7 archers at PP again
IBT: Archer suicides on our spear

Turn 5 100BC:
Arbela : library > granery
Isabella adopts Orginazed religion
Take the sword away and leave the warrior ungaurded , lets see if this works

Turn 6 80BC:
No luck at PP , they wont attack if they dont have 7 archers it seems.
7 archer at PP again.

Turn 7 60BC:
Paris : granery > sword
1 archer leaves PP

Turn 8 40BC:
Orleans : library > sword
Kill archer outside PP with sword (99) 3.1/6
IBT : Kill barb archer near Orleans.

Turn 9 20BC:
Lyons : granery > library
2 barb archers near Tarsus , i only got a spear!
I could risk moving the spear in the jungle but if it gets killed or hurt bad the other archer can take Tarsus in 2 turns , il just let the spear stay put.

Turn 10 1AD:
Killed another archer near PP.
Tarsus is in trouble , both barb archers can attack during this IBT but im sure 1 of they will pillage. We will get a sword the next turn at paris to help clean up the mess.

I started letting city's grow a bit so we at least make some use of our happy's and we can get some scientists going soon , i still havent hired any scientists.
Whip the library at Susa when it grows , it has 2 angry cits right now.
If we wanna take Persepolis we need at least a few more swords and prepare for heavy casualty's but im sure it will be worth it in the long run.

I will need to be skipped and will be unable to play through Monday, March 13th.

Got it. Will play my 10 turns tonight.

Here are my goals:

1) Whip the library
2) Raise and army to attack Persepolis.
3) Position troops appropriately.
4) Defend our cities.

I'm going to do my very best to position an attack on P, while building up our military. I'm not a science guy, I'm a numbers guy, and WE NEED NUMBERS!!!

Ah man, what a rush!

Well, I did what I set out to do and more.

Pre-turn
Upgraded Warrior to Axe in Paris and Lyons, in case Barbs took our city.
Pillaged farm near Perse, moved Warrior for bait

Turn 1
Axe to Shanghai (barb city)
Moved Troops around in Perse

Turn 2
Whipped Library In Pasa

Turn 3
Swordsman to Perse
Axe kills a barb archer

Turn 4
Swordsman to Perse
Workers to Tarsus

Turn 5
Warrior Draws out a Perse Archer and BEATS HIM! He survives! All hail the RNG God!
He stays in place, I hope to draw out another

Turn 6
2 More Sword to Perse
Building Farms in Arbola

The SIEGE OF PERSEPOLIS!
14 Units vs. 6

Basically, I sent the least experienced units first, hoping they do enough damage that the elite squads can survive and defeat them

Sword1 +25 Arch vs. Archer WINS!
Sword2 +25 Arch vs. Archer down to 2.5 Health
Sword3 +25 Arch vs. Archer WINS!
Sword4 +25 Arch vs. Archer down to 1.9 Health
Sword5 +25 Arch + City Attack vs Archer down to 2.4 Health
Sword6 +25 Arch + City Attack vs Archer down to 1.3 Health
Sword7 +25 Arch + City Attack vs Archer WINS!
Sword8 + City Attack 2 vs Archer down to .7 Health
Sword9 + City Attack 3 vs Archer WINS!
Axemen1 WINS!
Sword10 Medic WINS!

Persepolis is ours and Cyrus is gone FOREVER!

NA NA NA NA HEY HEY GOODBYE!

Turn 8
Susa Builds Library (Rushed it)
Units go to Perse
I scoute Djenne, because its a holy city...Just a few skirmishers
We may want it, because it has a shrine, and Confucianism is the world's biggest religion. Do you really want Mansa having it?

Turn 9
Start on Cow
Start on Quarry

Turn 10
Two Scientists in Orleans
Two Scientists in Paris
Research sped up a HELL of alot

I put pictures and the save file at the bottom

What to do NEXT.

Note: We need to swtitch SUSA's production to a Granary to get the chop, then back to the Axemen

I think Mansa should be our next target
With the scientists our research is good, we should get alphabet

We can trade Iron Woring to Ghandi for 2 techs...That is up to the next person

I have left all units unpromoted that gained promotions against Cyrus

I have an Axemen that took on 3 barb archers that won. its near 1 barb city, two swords at the others...We should keep the barb city with that the swords are going to , and raze the tundra city, I think

This was fun, and alot to think about. Can't wait for my next turn. I think I did allright!

Sounds good. Nice set of turns. Bye, bye Cyrus.

I don't quite agree about the least experienced unit first though. You may well be sacrificing a good deal of shields attacking a strong foe and end up not having enough units to finish the city off.

For example, a garrison 2 archer might well kill 2 unpromoted swordsmen and wound another before succumbing while getting killed by a CR3 swordsmen.

It's best if your fight ends with all your swords barely winning but surviving.

We definatly got off a good start , lets not waste it and prepare for the next victim , we need more city's and more scientist :)

While that is true, your last line, Perse had nice cultural defense and was on a hill. So likely whatever first wave I sent, it would die (Amazing this did not happen).

When I attacked, I had 16 to 6 attackers to defenders. Thinking forward, I'd rather keep my promoted units, so I sent in the scrubs. It's a common enough tactic. Even my best unit had only 29% chance to win (a round).

As another SG group says "Fortune favors the Bold". It will be better for us in the long run to have infantry with city raider 3 than infantry with city raider 1.

My apologies. If your best only had 29% to win, then indeed send in the crappy units first. In that case though, I'd probably wait for catapults rather than blood bath.

I am quite aware of the power of CR 3 infantry. That's why my veteran mace force sticks around to get upgraded. CR3 grenadiers are awesome.

Yeah, that's cool. Glad it now makes sense.

Having Cattys would have been much better, but since we needed another city, and had superior numbers, the losses were acceptable. I love that about Civ4, its o-k to lose units now.

The other thing is that, even though we had 22 to 29% chance to win, that was per round. So our actual chances to win were probably a little higher, since we were bringing in Combat I Swords mostly.

FYI: I really like that medic chariot. Let's keep him around! he really helped get a few swords ready to fight.

Also, we really should prioritize getting the barbarian city to the northeast.

I set 4 scientist specialists to get to alphabet, we could take them off and grow our cities faster, but thats not for me to make. I also manually choose food tiles over production tiles since we are no longer at war (for the moment) to grow other cities. Trying to clear out jungle, et al.

Sharog, you've got alot of choice to make with promotions.

You are right about the sacrifice of units. Military is amazingly cheap in Civ 4. Lose of a few swords is more than made up for by the extra growth and production.

Wow, 4 scientists. That's a lot. I usually don't go very specialist happy.

Good thing you saved some promotions. In general, saving promos until you need it is great.:goodjob:

We are gonna need a whole lot more then 4 scientist in the long run katank :)
Lets not wait to long to get another war going , we need city's for more scientist or we will fall behind in tech and catching up isnt really gonna be easy. I would go for cats asap after alphabet.
