MM10: Gandhi’s Mad Science. (0%-Science)

I noticed in sharog's profile that he was active today , we havent heard from him in a while though .
Its been nearly 48 hours since jerichohill played his turns , maybe we should skip sharog?

OK we skip Sharog. This is getting a bit messed up schedual wise.

Goal: Hurt Mali. Saladin is weaker but Mali is the score leader and needs to be slowed. Taking cities will be a difficult slog without catapults but we can at least pillage him back to the stone age.

Turn 0 (220 AD): Traded pig to Hatty for clam. Traded cow to Izzy for fish. These trades are good for us and at least not make everyone hate us. Micro Susa for the granary to get the chop? Why are we building an axe without a barracks? That place is going to be front line soon. As an aggressive civ, we have no excuse to not build a barracks first.

Turn 1 (230 AD): Took a gamble on the tundra axe and won! 0.3/5. Sacked Shangian for 111 gold. Fortune favors the bold. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good (TM)

Also killed barb archer near Tarsus with swordman (3.5/6) Ouch!

Turn 2 (240 AD): Declared war on Mali. Destroyed Awdagnost (a poor tundra city in south) with Cover axe (0.3/5 again).

Also killed a skirmisher and a spearman to capture the settler they were escorting. No more cities for you, Mali!

Could get hairy down south. The threat could be big.

Turn 3 (250 AD): They retreated!

Turn 4 (260 AD): Wow, should be big fight at Djenne next turn.

Chariot could be trouble.

Turn 5 (270 AD): Like lambs to the slaughter are chariots to formation spears. Flawless victory.

At Djenne, even our city raider 3 swordsman doesn't get very good odds.

He loses, whittling down the skirm to 1.6/4. Our next sword wins narrowly (0.6/6). You lose one, you win one.

Then two more wins (3.7/6) and (4.7/6) to capture Djenne, the Confucian holy city and a worker.

I decide to keep it despite the hefty cost. I think we built waay too many workers.

Decided that trading ironworking to Ghandi isn't that bad an idea and I do so. We are going to need polytheism for literature for the Great Library if we go down that route.

Hmm, the barb city has a worker inside. Juicy

Turn 6 (280 AD): Imhotep born in Paris. He offers Metal Casting. Nothing spectacular. He goes to sleep for now. I think once we get math, build Hanging Gardens in Paris and then we get tons of engineers.

Mansa Musa is the devil. Look at his score!

Turn 7 (290 AD): Marching forth units. Queue swordsmen everywhere. We need a horde of swords to kill all those skirmishers. We have to pillage copper also. Axemen would be the death of all our brave swordsmen.

Turn 8 (300 AD): Zapotec conquered.

Turn 9 (310 AD): Found humongous army in Timbuku. Pillaged the winery. Might lose some units next turn.

Turn 10 (320 AD): IBT lost our medic chariot to an axe after killing an enemy chariot. I'm surprised they didn't keep attack. They could have wiped out the promoted sword and formation spear too. Alphabet came in, Code of Laws due in 8. Feel free to veto.

Traded alphabet with Isabella for monotheism and sailing. Darn it, Hatty wouldn't give us math unless for both iron working and alphabet. That's a bit too high a price for me. You guys decide if it's worth it.

I agree about not giving Hatty Alphabet.

Nice pressing on the attack, I'm glad someone left you all those unpromoted units....wonder who that was.

Great job in getting the confucian holy city, and ransacking the barbs.

The only bad thing was that the medic chariot somehow got exposed. We'll need to queue up an explorer and give him a medic promotion now....(or two)

Yeah, it really sucked that we lost our Medic chariot. An explorer medic would be great although we need to get him promoted first (we have neither theocracy and vassalage right now). Since we are aggressive, it's probably easier to just build an axeman medic (starts with combat 1, medic right away).

We actually don't need 2 move medics that much right now as our attack force is pure infantry. Explorer medics dovetails perfectly with tanks.

Turn 0 320AD: Change CoL to literature , plan to rush the greal library.
While i like the plan to keep a city for engineer points only , it seems we are already working 2 scientists in that city so thats really out of the question also. Fire the 2 scientist in Tarsus , it has great production.
IBT: Our sword kills a axe.

Turn 1 330AD:
Paris : sword > sword
Zapotec starts on granery.
Shrine for judaism build in Memphis.
Spot big ass army in timbuktu , 3 chariots , 4 skirms and a spear.
Wanna see what mansu would offer for peace , he offers me nothing!
IBT: Hatshepsut comes offering mathemathics for alphabet and 10 gold , i guess she just got currence , i accept.

Turn 2 340AD:
Ghandi has literature now.
Kill a chariot and spot anothernear Djenne.
I dont see how i can ever take the capitol like this , gonna try to take out the minerals and horses and pillage when i can.

Turn 3 350AD:
Kill chariot near Djenne.
IBT: Our sword kills a axe , our sword kills a spearman

Turn 4 360AD:
Orleans : sword > axe
Persepolis : sword > sword
Kill the skirmisher on the copper mine and move 5 units on it , prepare for a big battle.

Turn 5 370AD:
Weird Mansu didnt attack with 9 vs 5 with 2 wounded.
Paris : sword > sword
Tarsus : sword > sword
Pillage copper , mansu his iron is offline also.
IBT: Saladin wants us to convert to confusionism , while i consider it i still decline .

Turn 6 380 AD:
Literature comes in , start on construction.
Persepolis : sword > sword
Rush The Great Library in Paris with our engineer .
IBT : one of our swords trying to reinforce our group of 5 gets attacked by 2 chariots and after killing the first he gets slain.

Turn 7 390AD:
Paris : The great library > sword , our GP rate is up to +16
Pasargadea : granery > barrack
Kill 2 chariots.
IBT : Mansu wants peace , i decline

Turn 8 400AD:
Mansu's chariots are upgraded to horse archers.

Turn 9 410AD:
Orleans : axe > sword
Tarsus : sword > spear
Djenne : barrack > library
Zapotec : granery > obelisk
Hatshepsut adopts heditary rule.
Pillage Mansu's horses.
Battle for Niani : 2 swords , 4 axes vs 2 axe and 2 skirms
Axe beats skirmisher 2.5/5
Axe beats skirmisher 2.2/5
Axe beats axe 0.5/5
Axe beats axe 2.0/5
I raze the city and we get 79 gold.
I wouldnt wanna be the next player , i just won 4 battles around 65% .
IBT: Our spears kills a horse archer.

Turn 10 420AD:
Paris : sword > national epic??
Lose axe to a axe , revenge its death with sword.
There is a chariot ready to attack Djenne and we only have a single sword there but it should be ok.

The minerals and the horses i could see are pillaged , he might have another though.
We are last in techs , when asking for peace mansu gives us monarchy but we might also be able to get CoL or calender.
Construction currently due in 6.
Should we build the national epic in Paris?
+16 is nice and it only takes 12 turns. We should find a good spot for the heroic epic aswell.

Great. Lovely. Okay.

Im going now because I am away all weekend.

We need to regroup and advance later. Therefore, I am going to pillage, then sue for peace. The next person after me can take our Mansa.

Okay, beginning thoughts

Arbela needs to grow, not build walls and have 1 scientist. I remove the scientist and place a citizen to get food.

I remove both scientists from Paris. We have some room to grow, let's grow! I like the call for the National Epic though, because eventually we will have more specialist there...Leave production as is

Well, I did this fast, at least fast like I didn't bother with a write-up.Geez we're losing ALOT of gold at zero science.

Brought up our forces on Timbuktu, did not negotiate.
Ceased OB with Hatty, as she was trying to sneak a settler into some of our lands to the west.
Changed some production orders (please make sure Paris is still producing the National Epic like before, should be).

We need to place the herioc epic

Took Timbuktu...mansa has two cities left.

I WORSHIP THE RNG GOD! I won battles of 18 and 24 %

Of course, I lost a 98% battle.

Still...not bad. I negotiated CoL for peace with Mansa, and set as many cities as I could to produce courthouses. We're about to hit serious budget problems if we dont do SOMETHING.

I did what I could do...

Pre: Wow we are a monster but going broke @ 0% science. MM for commerce and we go from –20gpt to –4gpt. Courts are on order in most cities. Trade CoL and Lit for calendar with Isabella as we have tons of those happy resources. CoL->Salidin for Monarchy to hook wines. We can now grow like a weed in all our cities.

530: Paris becomes Hindu. In this building phase I would like to convert to Confucian and organized religion but it would cut off most tech trading so I hold off.

540: Artist born in Paris. Send to Timbucktu for culture bomb. It won’t have great effect but will seal those boarders.

550: Work

560: Taoism founded in Delhi

570: zzz

580: Hatty wants CoL. Sorry but we are top dog, back off.

590: Handhi offers currency for Construction +50gp. Since we really need this and research is still 15 turns I take it. Income jumps to 14 gpt. I think the culture bomb in Timbucktu was major weed. It sealed the boarders nicely but would have been much better for a GA. Sorry that was a mistake. Well we are doing so well we can afford a mistake. I have to work on my use of leaders.

600: Start metal casting. It is something like 36 turns but I don’t have many scientists hired as we are growing into our new luxs.

610: zzz

620: summary. I wish I had that GA back. Oh well. We can grow massively. I would also consider sending a couple of settlers S to grab furs and silver sites and backfilling city sites to the W. We can afford more cities now. I think this one is in the bag.

Mark,

Well, you forgot me, so I'm after Shady.

Anyways, BRAV-FING-O on getting out economy out of the toilet. I was so set on taking Timbuktu that I did not notice.

The culture bomb was fine, we're not going for a cultural win here anyways.

I think we should backfill, get courthouses up, then go to macemen/cats and continue our attack, focusing on getting shrines and holy cities.

I'm thinking Gandhi would make a great next victim, but Hatty is getting very demanding... possible trouble?

Oh my sorry. I thought you had just played and I can't play on the weekend. Why don't we consider this an unintended swap. Youre up then Sharog. Sorry.

OK I played from your save (economic mess but nice military progress) so everything is OK. Sharog is UP.

i toke a look at the save, our cities are way smaller than it should be.

some mm on the tiles to focussing on growth in those cities that has already finished their courthouses. as we are running 0% research, we need all the food production we get and hire them in to specialists.

another limiting factor this early for spec farming is lack of available bonus food resources and lux/healths. so i changed the research path to civil service, after some spec hiring, we can get it in about 12 turns. that will allow us to further increase our production.

while capturing cities is a good way to expand, we still have some good tiles deep within our territory waiting for settling.

one is to the east with 2 health resources that we need:
2997_s.jpg

another one is to the south with whaile and crab:
2998_s.jpg

i havent settled it yet, since my turn ended before i can do so, i sudjest we settle one city on the iron, to pick up the 2 resources we need, and another one east of it to pick up all the furs and silver. as extra happiness are always welcome during the time of war. right now we have 1 settler heading towards the iron spot.

besides the heavy infra build during my turns, i noticed another problem:

we havent got any state religion yet, that is rather a bad thing for a warring game, as theocracy / organized religion will work so much in our favor during the times of war.

so we should start a missionary pump asap and convert to a religion that will benefit us the most. b
