I was told the Moai Statues are a National Wonder. Why is that so? It's like The Forbidden Palace as a National Wonder, completely disregarding the fact that there is only 1 Forbidden Palace...

However, the National Wonders... Wall Street, Scotland Yard... Represents a 'National Wonder', which just as easily could be a National alternate building (In Denmark Wall Street will be Børsen or something, while Forbidden Palace will be Amalienborg...)

But the Moai Statues? Aren't they unique?

The chat said they'll give free hammers on water tiles, so likely Maoi is to speed up archipelago/island games.

Didn't King Richard's Crusade do something similar back in Civ II? Maybe that was simply more shields in all squares, not necessarily water. I know the Offshore Platform did just this.

Offshore Platform added shields in water, yes, King Richard's Crusade added 1 shield to all tiles (Maybe to all tiles that already produced 1... don't remember... but it was IMBA!)

Wow, Moai Statues will be very good... will really change a city with lots of water tiles insides its border.

Scotland Yard is no longer a National Wonder, it's a special building constructed by the Great Spy, like an Academy Constructed by the GS or the War Academy by the GG. I Wonder what the new benefits for Scotland Yard is... it can't still be building spies, can it???

Anyways back to topic I Wonder what National Wonder combinations you can have with Moai Statue?

West point? Experienced Navy

Heroic Epic? Quickly Produced Navy

Ironworks? Used if Heroic Epic is combined else where eg-(WP)

Since there is a slider now for espionage, perhaps it gives +50% black briefcases in that city or however that gets represented.

Moai should be a World wonder making all water tiles more prod, like Collosus makes all water tiles more commerce.

It would be the ultimate archipeligo beeline.

As is it will be , spend hammers now to make hammers for later.

I guess it will not obsolete if it's a National. Hope not.

On a water map, maybe good for a naval prod city post astronomy.

I'm assuming that's the reason why it's in. I tend to build my production cities inland because I find it more difficult to create good production centers on the coast. If the importance of naval units has increased - and the developers in the chat emphasised the need for BtS players to make use of a navy - then this national wonder insures that every civ can produce a good ship yard.

It may be only flavour, but I have to wonder if there wasn't a better name for the wonder.

But Maoi statues indicates that it's a wonder which will be available very early - yes, I know they are dated to the early second millenium A.D. but they were created using stoneage tools - which indicates that naval units are important in all eras. And that Victoria and Elizabeth (financial and the fishing for a starting technology) with the Colossus might want nothing more than one of those multi seafood resource starts.

The irony of that is because the Easter Islanders were busy making statues, they cut down all the trees to make the statues, leaving none left for canoes!

Calm yourself, Tails. It's just a game. :mischief:

I think the Incas are going to be my favourite archipelago civ now. Financial gives you +1 to all sea tiles, collosus gives you another +1, and Maoi gives you +1 production. That measn that every coastal tile produces 2 food, 4 gold and 1 hammer. That is huge.

But it's just one city. That's a pity.
