[MOD] Composite Mod by Exavier

Hey Exavier you know how your mod adds a little bit of itself to the original game? Well that is kind of bad in some cases where I am playing against people without the mod (I know it is sad) and it causes "warning: our version files don't match" or something like that and I think it might be linked to the recent amount of crashes I had in a game a few minutes ago. Now is there anyway I can keep the mod on my comp but make sure it 100% no ifs, ands, or buts doesn't mess with the original games when I am not using it because I am getting sick of not being able to play mp because I get crashes all the time:mad:! And it wasn't aol the last time (when comp had a BSOD) so your mod's residue is the next and best candidate. Help on this subject would be appreciated.

Um Condor I dono what your smoking but my Mod doesn't touch the core game at all... Everything in my Mod is contained in the \Mods\Composite Mod v1.# folder and unless you specificly activate it then it changes absolutly nothing in the main game.

Maybe the guys your playign with are running a mod... or a different game patched version (1.09 maybe)?

But I can garentee that my mod doesn't change anything outside of the folder its installed into.

However if you think my mod has caused this please send me all possible info (including BSOD error information if any) and I will look into it. I am an IT Tech after all :P

1)Then why do I get that warning whenever I play a mp game (have no other mods currently)?

2)Nope all up to date and it was a "standard game".

3)Okay, I will believe you but something is happening to my game and it is pissing my off.

4) I wish I could but like it had totally frozen I couldn't do anything. I tried like eight times to do anything and ended up ripping out the power supply and battery for my laptop....

1) not sure maby you accidentally overwrote a default game file? Since the v1.52 patch MP games are really wacky with their comparison systems to make sure everyone is running the same version.

2) dono then...

3) like i said without any form or error messages i can't help you...

Fine, I guess I just won't play anymore MP games 'till Firaxis or something fixes this unknown thingie of much doom and suffering. I haven't touched a thing in the game 'cept that one file in your mod that caused "The Matrix":P.

Sorry to come off as rude (which I am 99% sure I look like) but it is just kind of annoying to get three crashes in a game and then a deathblow. I shouldn't of suspected you and I apologize....

Edit: Oh and happy 1450:dance:!

lol I didn't take it personally trust me... If i was in your position that would be the next thing I woulda looked at as well.

I am going insane atm... 88% battery left.... 1.2GB of 40 GB of data transfered... This is going to take a while... specially after i have to shut down every few GBs of data lol. Trying to back it all up before my laptop vanishes.

btw what do you mean Happy 1450?

@Officer Reene - um my mod is game patch version 1.52 compliant... however if your still running version 1.00 or 1.09 of the game the only version you can use is v1.3 (I think) thats still up for download on the main page of this thread... I left that version there just in case someone hasn't updated to v1.52 game...

Honestly have you tryed the game with v1.52 game patch? They made alot of changes to how the game runs and made it alot more stable. If you haven't i would give it a try :)

Ummm... I think you misread my patch ...or I wasnt clear enough

nothing was wrong with your mod and the new version1.52

however I have had problems running CIV4 until Harkonnen made a mod to fix that problem...

for more info on that see link below:
showthread.php

well Harkonnen has done a great job with the 1.09 version and is working on a 'compliant' version for the 1.52 official patch

therefore I can update to official patch of 1.52 AND can not use your latest version of the Composite mod....yet (until Harkonnen updates his mod)

In conclusion this has nothing to do with your great mods...

I just cant run the latest mod (1.52 patched version) until Harkonnen updates his patch that lets me run the CIV game

(I can not run the CIV game without the Harkonnen mod... and that can only be used with the 1.09 patch)

I hope this clears the air since I really want to use the your latest mod... but as of right now (through no fault of your own) I can not

Hope that helps

1) I dunno you aren't as quick to anger as I am....

2)Heh, sounds like a good suspense story:P. Hope it goes well:).

3) I... don't... know....

4)Oh yeah:P. Happy belated monthiversery for the mod:D![party]:banana:!

5 and slighty more on topic....) So basically there shall be no new attempts to expand upon others' work or break new barriers with your mod 'till your laptop is fixed or will it still be done but at a snail's pace with another one of your comps while the main one is of getting fixed? Also, would any new stuff be attempted with this comp or would it be saved for testing 'till the good one is back?

@Officer Reene - Hmm i have seen his patch but never got it... what makes it REQUIRED for you to play? Does it fix a problem that you have even when you update the game to v1.52? Cause it was my understanding that v1.52 corrected what that patch was suppost to correct...

@Condor - Um you have never seen me deal with Microsoft or Toshiba... you think i am a tolerable person here your probobly right... in RL I have very little patience for ppl who just piss me off :P

I plan to keep working on my mod... but the PC i have to work with is a AMD 1ghz, 320mb ram, Nvidia TNT2 Video Card... its not much but it will function for code editing... I am going to say most of the testing will wait untill my laptop gets back unless of coarse you would like me to send you beta files again and you can test them for me :P

Otherwise development will be very slow untill my good PC is back.

Ok Im not a programmer/coder.... but this is what I got from it...

I could play CIV4 without the Harkonnen patch ... but in later stages of the game it would slow down to unplayable... or simply crash...

well the Harkonnen patch fixes that

(I like playing epic and no time limit... currently I am trying to conquer the world against 17 AI (5 are left) I won a culture victory early but I want to rule the WORLD! hehe anyway the current year is 3121)

so this helps...

When I read the thread... the best to my knowledge is that H. Patch was designed to deal with more advance computers...

apparently the CIV game does not use Virtual Memory well and if your computer has the capability for good or high VM CIV4 can not allocate the right amount and this causes the "slow down" to "dead Stop" in the engine...

the H. Patch fixes that by using the appropriate VM for your specific computer...

That's the best way I can explain it since I do not fully understand computer code/workings/engines/etc

to get a better idea... just read the original thread.... (and have a lot of time on your hands to read it)

Nope actually it crashes as soon as I start playing....

It's worse than the 1.00 or 1.09 Version

From what I read the 1.52 fixes the problem for "low end" computers who have limited VM/speed/graphics etc..

and if it supposed to fix it... well it doesnt...

hope that helps..

@Officer Reene - interesting... I dono some would say I play on a low end system... Sure I have 2.4 Ghz HT prossesser and 512mb of ram (on my laptop that is) but I only have a 32MB Video card on the thing and i have never had any problems running civ (well slight end game slowdown pre v1.52 patch)... Guess every system is different.

I have 2.2 GHz

AMD Athlon 64 FX-51
2 gig of Ram

(unsure of the of the video card MB but its NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra -sorry not very comp literate)

so I guess to each his/her own....

@Officer Reene - And your having trouble running Civ4?!?

The graphics card I use is only an Nvidia Geforce FX 5100 Go (laptop variant)... As for the other stats I wish i could afford something like that lol

yep...lots of trouble until I ran the h. patch

I played the game in italian, and the italian translation is very very very wrong!
You have used a softwere for translate?

I have translated the new units.
If you want my translation send me a mail at draskar83@libero.it and i'll send you the main file with units name correctly translated.

@Spearthrower - No I didn't make any maps script changes... Are you running anything in the CustomAssets folder? Cause if you have a new map script or something in there from another mod that might cause problems (might also be causing the problems with the score list but i havn't looked at it yet).

Nope, not a thing!

Ok, here's my second crit. In that very game file I sent you, I am now at around 150b.c. and I am researching Assembly Line, this is on Marathon setting. The nearest AI is about 5 techs behind me but most civs are just entering the Renaissance.

I think the tech cost needs to be upped a fair bit.

Thanks though, I am really enjoying it even with the whacked out date and odd city screen!

@Draskar - Yea i figured they were going to be screwed up but I made an attempt... I had to use BabelFish because I only speak 3 languages... English, Bad English, and Technobable

You can send it to compositemod@hyperimpact.net and I will make sure it gets updated for the next version :)

@Spearthrower - Oh trust me... you just hit the beginnings of the new techs lol. I didn't make any changes to any techs before Steam Power... after you hit that point the game slows down considerable due to how I did the tech costs on all the techs beyond that point... I had modified the construction speeds in marathon just like I did for epic so that also might be helping to speed it up a little more than normal. :)

I know you said it, so I hope you take this as the constructive criticism its meant to be. I just finished an epic game using your mod, v1.7, and I definitely have a few suggestions regarding balance.

By far the most disfunct part is all your timetables are completly out of whack. I had rifles by 100 a.d., and because production is so hefty I was able to make almost any unit in 1 turn in most of my cities. Banks, Coloseum's etc took 4-5 turns. This left a lot of dead time where I couldn't build anything but units-- and because that wore my economy down I had to start wars just to use up the massive armies I generated this way... of course the computer also had these massive armies. I had to drop to 0% research just to keep my economy afloat until I finally got courthouses, markets, etc. Basically, production is way too fast and tech is way to fast.

I'm not really sure how or what you were doing with the culture, but it was pretty awkward. All cities expand in 1 or 2 turns, making obelisks useless.. and really any improvement that increases culture seemed a waste of time as culture explodes all on its own. All of my cities had mamoth borders, and I even captured a city via culture-- something I had never accomplished in vanilla.

I really liked the mods you incorporated, it just needs some serious tweaking for balance.

Exavier, I know nothing about modding and do not know if this is possible, or whether or not you have already added this (I am just downloading the mod now), but the one feature I dream of in civ is the ability for cities to expand their workable borders. I think this could be done similarly to cultural borders, only with higher thresholds for expansion. Any chance of seeing this in your mod some day?
