Mod Fair Start - Add-on to ViSa modpack

i dont know if you have been made aware of this yet but there seems to be some problem with the AI not all of them just one or 2 on my continent and the barbs near me thay seems to have almost no units at all, when russia started bumping borders with me the one city i could see had a stack of unit at first then i see another of there citys near my borders that has no units freshly settled after a little while the first city i saw that had a stack in it became empty i didnt think much of it at the time but as my religion spread into there lands i started to notice that not one of the citys i could see had units in them and the barbs on my border were amazingly passive i had seen by this time only 2 units come after me, at this point i decided to open the world builder to see what was going on and to my suprise russia has a total standing army of 2 units in there entire land that i could spot incans farther south seemed to have veary few but alot more then russia and for the most part the rest of the AIs had relativly normal looking armys sizes.

My guess is that the AI douse not know how to correctly use the new tile improvement set, i got this idea from the fact that most of russians land was covered in jungle and lots of jungle camps all over so the AI i would say douse not have a trigger telling it to chop the jungle and put in mines farms and cottages, however i am just speculateing based only off of my observation.
The reason russia was still standing i can only guess is because the barbs that are not stuck without food hammers and coin are naboring the better situated AIs aswell as the fact that all AIs on my land are of the same religion so avoiding most chances for war and the reason i haven't walked in with a hand full of troops and taken his land from him is i normally dont like a long war campain that i thought would be needed to put his empire down.

Spitefire,

Programming for the AI is a total nightmare....and horribly difficult.

Be sure to play 1-2 more games to make sure it wasn't just a glitch in one game and then doesn't show up again.

I did not mean to suggest poor programming skills on anyone, and a would like to make a slight correction to what i said before i think the penalty on Iron working made this mess that i witnessed because unless something has changed the AI will avoid the penaltys above all else and so leads to a chain reaction for any sciv with an empire half or more buried in jungle (1.the AI expands far into jungle and build alot of new jungle camps 2.the ai gets the tech that half obsoletes them and the AIs economy begins going down 3. while avoiding the one tech that would bring the economy back the cost of an empire that big evenually drags his research bar into the mud and makes it next to impossable to get the tech needed to get out of the mess its in.) oddly enough that almost sounds like how it happened for real russia only more tundra and forest rather then jungle and grasslands.

Anyway you are correct more testing is in order just wanted to correct my earlyer post.

Spitefire,

In my experience AI uses Jungle Camps reasonably. After discovering of Iron Working, AI chops all jungles quickly and builds Cottages and so on.

Also Barbarians strongly depend on the map settings. If you have not a lot of free space you have a very few of them...

As to civs without army. Actually the AI has two main bugs (actually it has more  ):
  1. It seems that AI does not understand that having too much cities drops the economy to zero. I like to play on large maps with the low sea level and a lot of free space. Therefore in my games every time one or two civs are under striking (because of negative income due to having too much cities) and have cities without any units. This continues until some other civ or barbarians do not capture several cities.
  2. Too many angry citizens in AI's cities (probably due to a bug in calculating city happiness). This causes less production in AI's cities and more maintenance support.
These two bugs most noticeable in slow game speeds, maps with a lot of space, and mainly in Classical era (that is why there is no reports on these bugs - most of people plays normal speed and skip this period quickly). It is even more noticeable in the FairStart mod, because in this mod there is less happiness.

At present time I can do nothing with it, except one thing: I made special handicap level Fujisan (on the base of Emperor), that give a human even less happiness and health. It will be in version 1.1 that I am going to upload right now.

Yes, i understand that now after running a game with spy planted in all of the other players citys seeing as you already are aware of this i shall not bug you on this further sorry to have uneededly taken up your time.
