[MOD] Fall from Heaven II

Hi, I am new here. Trying this mod out and I like it, but sometimes I have to reboot my PC to get the mod to launch. I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit fully updated, the retail versions of Civ IV and Warlords but the D2D version of Beyond the Sword. I installed fresh and fully updated the original game first, then warlords then beyond the sword using only the latest patches (1.74, 2.13 and 3.17) then FfH 2.033.

I launch and the process Civ4BeyondSword.exe *32 appears in the task manager, but it does not do anything. It happens when I load the mod from Beyond the Sword or when I use the FfF desktop shortcut.

Not really complaining, this being a free mod and all, just thought I should mention. I don't suppose it is a familiar issue that has a workaround?

Hmm I just now installed the patch b and now it seems to stop at "Check XML".

the problem is that i have a friend that the moment he sees a ctd, he will ban the mod for our game....

so if 0/23 patched i,
worked wellon mp, then its good enough for me,

i hope some people will write here that they tested on mp :)
 
Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm prob behind the times. What's the best bug reporting process.
I noticed in 32, some trouble with this, but really notice it in 33.
Bug: If I give a larry,mo,or curly Orthus' axe, it can never be taken away again. The 'take item spell casts, but the item doesn't move from that guy to me. Those guys have had their nationality 'announced' to have them be on my team, NOT 'hidden' nationality. Also, I noted when said item is dropped from the Larry,Mo,or Curly once they have it, it can never be picked up off the ground by my units Haven't tried with other units that start with hidden nationality, just the hill giants. This happens also if they die and the item is left, I can never pick the axe up again.

Second, attached startup dialog shows, but game runs. I'm on no-patch .33, so perhaps this is addressed already.

First I downloaded the mod and patch installed em both in the "mods" filder of beyond the sword, and when i started a game (an actual game, the menu loads) it crashes back to the desktop. I also noticed that the civiliopedia didn't show units, so maybe I installed the patch only.
I then deleted the .33 folder (is this ok, or shoud I have used a uninstall prog?), installed ONLY the mod and no patch, boom, same problem.
Maybe my download was corrupt, so I downed it again, from a different server, but alas the problem was still there.
Can anyone help me please?

We have a bug thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=287291) for reporting issues. And that problem was fixed in patch "a".

Yeap, it sounds lke you downloaded just the patch. You need the full 0.33 download (even if you have 0.32, you cannot patch from 0.32 to 0.33).
 
Why did you move your flag/info to the top left corner next to your gold? Is that intentional? It used to be by the end turn button. It looks like it is covering something up in that position.


I have an odd crash. I am using a big screen tv 1920x1080. When I start the game in 1024x768 then go to 1920x1080 it works. But if I try to start the game in 1920x1080 it fails to load. Height error. I keep having to switch monitors every other start. Where is the Graphics configuration it uses for startup. The Configuration.ini in C/documents/BTS/ says it should start at 1024x768. But it still trys to start at the resolution I last quit the game.
 
Yeap, it sounds lke you downloaded just the patch. You need the full 0.33 download (even if you have 0.32, you cannot patch from 0.32 to 0.33).

The thing is I downloaded the full 0.33 mod (it's 366mb right?) and installed it in the mods folder of beyond the sword, and the problems i'm having are the ones you have when you download just the patch...

'edit' : one thing I noticed is that when I want to install the mod and patch, the path it gives is "\mods" only. I have to manually inster the directory of my game. This probably is normal, but maybe it can help...
 
Just a heads up to anybody who may encounter this problem.

My original installation was the Civ 4 Gold box (which came with warlords) and BTS. All of the previous versions of FFH2 defaulted to c:/program files/firaxis games/civilization 4/beyond the sword/mods. My installed files were c:/program files/2kgames/firaxis games/civilazation 4 gold/beyond the sword/mods. Naturally I changed my files to match FFH's default directory, because I will most likely never play vanilla civ ever again.

Anyway, as of this release there is a new feature that auto detects where you have FFH installed to. Guess where it defaulted to? That's right, it went to the 2k games + gold file directory. So I had to change it to my actual directory that I never would have changed had I not wanted to make installing FFH easier in the first place.

This proves one thing, you cannot win for losing.

If I am reading this right, when you installed 0.33 it wanted to install it to .../.../.../mods and you changed that to instead install to .../.../.../mods/Fall from Heaven 2 033

If that is the case, then you should not have done so. Go to your Fall from Heaven 2 033 folder and you'll find that there is a folder in that by the same name. Extract everything from that folder back out into the root Fall from Heaven folder and it should work properly.
 
OK, it's working (how cool is the rotation tool!)
I didn't have the newest patch installed (stupid me). But I have the complete version and had problems finding a patch that could actually find my install of the game. Anyone having this problem, use this link :

I haven't messed with the Hill Giant not giving up the Orthus' Axe after patch 'a'. But, the dialog for the invalid character in some file at statup still happens after patch 'a'. But, the game still runs, so I'm not worried about it.

I LOVE the card game you guys added, that is so cool.

Just wondering...how do I play the scenarios that are listed in one of the tabs in the upper right of the playing screen?

They will be available for playtesting during the next phase of development, "Ice". I'm not sure of the timeline. Who knows what the team has in mind. Somnium came out of the blue.
 
I have the Steam version of Civ4 and Civ4:BtS. Is there anything special I need to do to install FFH2 other than just specify the correct path?

The new 0.33 will automatically detect the correct path. Just install and go just like a boxed install.

A lot of people are still posting "not bugs" in the bug thread. I even saw a post saying that the person didn't know where to post their non bug. It says in the first post of the bug thread to use this one, but maybe if Kael could edit his post and link this thread to it the less observent people might get it.

This mod is great. Not only have I not played any other game since I found this, but I have even stopped watching television. Fall from Heaven, work, Fall from Heaven, maybe sleep, repeat.
 
Patch "c" is linked in the first post. It fixes the following issues and will break save games (sorry):

1. You cant pickup Dragon's Horde or the Lyre in other players cities.
2. You can't Wane immortal units.
3. Illusions can't be sacrificed for research (mirrored ritualists).
4. Illusions can't be sacrificed for production (mirrored slaves).
5. Illusions can't be sacrificed for culture (mirrored disciples).
6. Illusions can't be sacrificed to become great people (mirrored shades, you're all cheaters!)
7. Illusions can't be sacrificed for great merchant gold (it was only a matter of time befor PL gave a mirror to a great merchant).
8. Fixed a WoC error caused by grouping with an invisible unit with enemies nearby (fixed by Sto!).
9. Stirrups requires Horseback Riding.
10. Fixed a python error with Pestilence.
11. Ring of Flames won't destroy unique features anymore.
12. Immortal Units won't be reborn when upgraded.
13. Balseraphs can now cage human slaves.
14. Illusions can not found cities (mirrored settlers).
15. Groups of Satyr's cannot duplicate animals with Mezmerize anymore.
16. Captured units retain their race (so captured dwarven workers don't turn into elves when captured by the ljosalfar).
17. Liches will now be undead after casting Lichdom.
18. Illusions cannot build buildings (mirrored sages).
19. Somnium: players can play for 1 gold or for nothing.
20. Somnium: Once the memory delay is finished, the memories reset.
21. Somnium: Memories for attitudes are now doubled to prevent bad allocation memory errors.
22. Fixed an issue where Tolerent leaders might not be able to upgrade in some cities (Doviello cities).
23. Added the ability to pick up the Infernal Grimoire building as an item.
24. Fixed a python exception in the Circle of Gaelan event.
