[MOD] Fall from Heaven II

1) Can you Add a Team Sequential Turn option, as is coming out with Beyond the Sword, that lets all players on a each team move/attack at the same time? As it is, Sequential Turns are almost never used. However, with some of the powerful spells available in this mod, who can click first can make the difference between winning and losing the game. Even MORE usefull would be an option that can allow players/game hosts to switch from simultaneous to sequential timer, say at some point late in the game just before a climactic battle. There is an editor program that allows saved files to be edited... but could this be done in game, to avoid having to reload? Perhaps if the majority of players vote for it?

We plan to convert to the BtS code, so hopefully we can take advantage of its features.

2) Can you Add or Alter the Team Research so that players can be on the same team, but do their own research? Seems to me that many civs should jealously guard their secrets from potential clan rivals... This would REALLY help scenario makers who want to ally different races/civs, so that they can see what's going on in their allies' territory, but want them to have their own unique techs/research tree. Better yet, just change open borders so that players can see what's going on in the territory opened, but not see city production. I made a WWII scenario where I had Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin at permanent peace, aligned against Germany and Japan, but, as in real life, I didn't want them sharing tech secrets. America didn't volunteer Nuclear weapons to anyone.... And soon afterward the former allies became rivals...

Probably not, this seems like a long way to go just to be able to see into your allies lands. Techs are tracked on the team object, not through player objects so breaking research off from teams would be a lot of work.

3) Can you add a teleporter? I would like to create little 'side quests' where a teleporter represents a cave entrance, for example, that teleports units to another part of tha map which is blocked off by impassable terrain, which could represent another dimension.

Probably not, just because the AI wouldn't undertsand it. But we will be doing scenarios in "Ice" so we may try to come up with some features like this.

4) More Ambitiously: Add a separate mini-map that represents underground, with a tab to toggle back and forth between the surface and underground. Then, cave entrances could be made that essentially teleport the units to the surface and vice/versa. Players could maker terrain that represents impassable stalagmites, etc.

No, I've tried to do this, as have people more talented than I am and no one has been able to get it to work with the graphics engine (or even consider getting the AI to understand it). I would love to have this too, but I dont think its oging to happen anytime soon.

5) Quick Suggestion: for ring of fire and other powerful spells/abilities: How about use a max_damage instead of maximum damage percent? This would help powerful units when faced by spells that do a percent damage, which of course is much higher if the unit has a much higher strength. Also, if players are stacking units with powerful area spells, in addition to toning down the spell, increase the cost of the units by 50% or so... so that these units become more of a vital support unit, like artillery or aircraft, rather than the core of an army.

Percent and damage are the same thing. In Civ4 every unit has 100 hit points, from the lowly scout to the late game mechanized infantry. So when I say 3% or 3 points of damage, its the same thing.

Also, why can mages lob spells at enemies, but catapults can't? Can Ranged bombardment be brought back for ships and catapults? If you do, you'll also have to increase cost of them accordingly, of course....

Yeah, we may do this.

Thanks for the quick reply!

How about just allow players with open borders to see everything going on in the other's territory? This makes sense to me, as you can explore it and watch with scouts... This would just make it more formalized, and more fun to watch other player's battles.

Kael,

What was the thinking behind having Basium enter the game by taking a city from the builder of Mercurian Gate rather than establish his own like Hyborem?
Was it because he enters the game after Hyborem who at that point probably has a good foothold and this is a way of making them more even? The only other thing I can think of is it assures Basium gets into the game if there is no space on the map.

The only reason I mention this is because while I want to bring Basium into the game when Hyborem is up to no good, sometimes I don't want to play him. Grabbing one of my cities irks me. I wish there was a way around this.

Have fun.

Basium gives you a teammate. Meaning he helps you research techs, he always joins you in war declarations, and he will never turn against you. Hyborem just adds another player to the game, a player who may turn against you (and frequently does).

The price for gaining the teammate, which is a considerable advantage, is the loss of a city.

Hi, I have a not so fast and stable internet connection and hence my question - is there a chance for a download mirror that supports download menagers like flashgot or getright? Or perchance a torrent?

I use GetRight on the main link and it works great.

I did a test downloading the main file. I get the error if I use segmented downloading. If I uncheck the accelerate box in configurations, it works fine.

Thanx for the info. It's a pity that Getright can't recognize it and just turn it off for that download automatically...

downloaded earlier and when i try to run the .exe file it says
" the installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. this could be a result of a damaged disc, a failed download or a virus."

I just downloaded the main file from the link on the first post and cannot reproduce the error. Try disabling your anti-virus software long enough to run the executable and see what happens.

First of all I would just like to say; great mod. I love the fact that it feels totally different than CIV. My question/comment regards the spell 'Ring of Fire'. I'm on my third game now and I'm thinking that it's way too overpowered. My military can't even keep up with my four level 7 confessors with Ring of Fire. They empty cities regardless of the number of defenders in one turn and my army marches in unscathed. Does the AI ever use Ring of Fire or other offensive spells? Are there plans to nerf ROF? I feel it's too easy to get and too powerful...

THIS MOD IS THE GREATEST EVER!

One thing, however, has made it even better. Year 307, age of rebirth, I look at the counter and its far higher then I remember. That is the last thought I had before getting the pop up telling the story of some Horseman...I don't even remember how the counter got that high, or what number it was, maybe 70ish?

I have played this mod dozens and dozens of times, to around year 700-800 (on epic) and never seen the counter higher than 30ish.

Did the barbarians build something to set it off so quickly? For the next 70 turns the counter seemed to go up by 1 every two turns, sometimes 1 every turn. Why hasn't this happened before? How can I get it to happen more often early in the game?! I love it!

On the list of things that will cause the Armageddon Counter to rise, from the top of my memory;

* Raizing a city (that isn't Ashen Veil)
* Ashen Veil spreading to a city
* Entropy Node being built
* Hyborem being summoned (I think)
* Ashen Veil being founded
* Stigmata on the Unborn being built (I think)
* Elegy of the Sheaim ritual

So if the AC is rising rapidly it could be due to either a lot of warfare resulting in cities being razed left and right, or it could be that the Ashen Veil is spreading rapidly. Or, if you have the Sheaim in the game, they could be doing their thang. But then you should see a message about that, though.

Most often it tends to be one of the two first things mentioned there that happens much to make the counter go up fast. But that's just a guess.

Cheers.

ps. So in order to make the AC to go up more often early in the game, as you asked, you probably need to get out there and burninate cities. Barbarian cities are excellent targets since you don't have to go to war with anyone (well, any more than you already are with them, unless you're playing Doviello/Clan) and they can often be placed in hokey spots that you might not want a city in anyway, plus it has the added benefit of saving you any more agitation from that angle.
