[mod] TOTAL REALISM 2.0

@ cale_halley

From what I heared and read and know, this might be mercenaries component issue that appears in multiplayer games (Hot-Seat is also affected i belive). If you are playign 2.1.3 for Vanilla Civ IV, there is little that can be done, till next release witch is not yet scheduled.

Besides at given moment TR Team is having a deserved rest (no, they are still alive :)), so It wont be any soon, besides winter holiday is about to come. Prolly they will like to break their legs in Tehran mountains trying to skii :). But also they might get a new release just for those that are Civ IV addicts and prefer spending cold days warming up and getting upset every time slavary rebelion takes place.

Now if you are plaing Warlords Total Realism 2.0 Gold, all you have to do is Reinstall and leave deselected Mercenary component (while installing you will be asked for this. Mercenaries mod is off by default). Whith them off, sync problem should no longer appear.

How ever if it does, post again here. And please dont make it longer than mine ;)

Hello Anaztazioch -- Is there still no way to ranged bombardment ?? I have battleships off shore and the enemy is attacking my city - the battleships and destroyers are useless and serve only to be spectators instead of fighting -- I REALLY want to be able to bombard invading armies with my big ships -- not just point them at an enemy city -- I need to be able to have the grid show, as in Dales Combat Mod - so I can select what to have my ship cannons shoot at. Do you know how to get DCM into TR ?

@ Kaiser Franz

Do you know how to get DCM into TR ?
Im not the man to tell this. I do not know.

Still large fleet is not a good option. I have em to transport my 5 assassins, move em all to their capital, wait till they do what they do best, and use fleet to move troops. No bombarding, even defences as in that time i often have gunpowder units.

hello,

first i want to say: good work with this mod. i have not played it too much so far but that will change.

as i like to play on earth maps i have a question: what is the fastest and easiest way to play TR mod on the earth map however with fewer opponents (my pc is not the fastest)

also i would prefer to have all leader choices when i select a country. is that somehow possible?

thanks in advance

few notes:

i played the earth scenario as england and started with no tech. i think that is a little disadvantage for the celtic civ or all island civs (celts, england japan), as they cannot send scouts around the map and benefit from goodie huts.

so maybe island civs get one free naval based tech at start. (think of it as the ancient lore of their ancestors who settled the island.

regards

You will have to edit scenario/map. And there is no fastest way to play on Earth Map.
But easiest way for me is, Cyrus, Japan, England, Mali, Spain, France, Greece, Rome.

By default directory is C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Mods\Total Realism\World_Map
Make backup copy of W_TotalRealism_Gold_WorldMap.CivWarlordsWBSave and than open it in notepad.
Each player has:

BeginPlayer
Team=0
LeaderType=LEADER_RAMESSES
LeaderName=Ramesses
CivDesc=Egyptian Empire
CivShortDesc=Egypt
CivAdjective=Egyptian
FlagDecal=Art/Interface/TeamColor/FlagDECAL_EyeOfRa.dds
WhiteFlag=0
CivType=CIVILIZATION_EGYPT
Color=PLAYERCOLOR_YELLOW
ArtStyle=ARTSTYLE_MIDDLE_EAST
PlayableCiv=1
MinorNationStatus=0
StartingGold=0
StartingX=69, StartingY=36
StateReligion=
StartingEra=ERA_ANCIENT
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_GOVERNMENT, Civic=CIVIC_DESPOTISM
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_LEGAL, Civic=CIVIC_BARBARISM
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_LABOR, Civic=CIVIC_TRIBALISM
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_ECONOMY, Civic=CIVIC_DECENTRALIZATION
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_RELIGION, Civic=CIVIC_PAGANISM
Handicap=HANDICAP_NOBLE
EndPlayer

LeaderType=LEADER_RAMESSES tell you that Ramesses will be leader of this team. You can change it to Hathepsut, and play as her/ or make AI play as her. You must be precise in this aspect, as even sligthest mistake can make this map not to launch/hang/crash.

i played the earth scenario as england and started with no tech. i think that is a little disadvantage for the celtic civ or all island civs (celts, england japan), as they cannot send scouts around the map and benefit from goodie huts.

Most goddie huts in TR Worldmap is protected by barbarian units. So oits not as much unballance as it seems + island civs dont have barbarians, exept slavary and serfdom.

thank you for the fast reply.

due to my bad english i think u misunderstood:

i meant how can i change it (or is it possible ) to change the start of the scenario like in a custom game .. that i dont have all civs in it but just like 10 or so cos my pc is not fast and it otherwise takes looong time every turn.

so like in a custom game me and like a certain number of AI civs and close the rest?

is that possible somehow .. if not ... i just have to be patient ;)
thanks in advance and ... good job with that mod

open World Map in notepad

BeginTeam
TeamID=0
ContactWithTeam=0
RevealMap=0
EndTeam

All teams have this (0 is team civ no#1 Rameses in World Map). I belive that erasing this short info will do the trick. Now there is problem with units in some spots...

But There is an easier way to do this. Start the game by civ you want to play, enter World Builder and delate all units of AI you dont want, than SaveMap, exit world builder, go to main menu and lauch the map you just saved. Should work fine.

I have been playing as the Romans for a long time and have gotten very far on it. Then out of no where the game keeps crashing every time I try to boot up the mod. I think it has something to do with the xml or something because that is where the mod stops loading and quits out.

What is going on? and can you fix it?

@ Nailo

This is strange and very known bug.

Clearing cashe sometimes fixes it. Works often, but doesnt for me :o, still i dont have any problems with this bug now.

Try running Total Realism in differant ways.
1) From lauching Civ IV or Warlords, than in advanced menu select Total Realism
2) From Total realism shortcut
3) From Total Realism World Map shortcut (than just go back to menu and load)
4) directly by launching savegame file.

If you have been plaing any other mod than TR, or even vanilla game, clearing cashe can be even crutial.

For the future post can you please type in what version of game you play ? THIS IS CRUTIAL IN BUGs.

I play the newest patch to civ 4 and the newest TR download.

but my next question is how to i clear my cashe?

I play the newest patch to civ 4 and the newest TR download.
Newest patch to civ 4 is 1.64 i belive.
Latest TR download is Total Realism 2.0 for Warlords Gold (or something like that ;))

But from what i think is that you play Total Realism 2.1.3 for vanilla right ?

C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\My Games\Warlords\cache

Still 2.1.3 is buggy and you may encounter some ctd during game. Some can be avoided by reloading autosaves, but not allways the closest one.

Have fun mate. Now im stuck in WTR Gold as Incas witch Walter Hawkwood static leaderheads add-on for WTR Gold trying to capture one goddamn barbarian city (Kaypo) defended by 2 hypaspist with my 18 elite quechas with raider I all split into 2 9man stacks... Never succedded...

Does anyone else notice that when you end your turn it seems to take much much longer to load up the next round? I dont have a slow computer either; 2.6ghz A64, 2GB RAM, 7800GTX

One other thing I noticed is that I attacked a barbarian village and once I killed all the units I wasnt given an option to raze or keep the city, it automatically just kept the city. Did I miss something?

Edit: I just loaded a save game and tried it again, took the city, same thing, didnt ask me anything.

Is there any way to intentionally raze one of your own cities? I'm still learning about this game.

You probably used a Tank or Helicopter to attack the city the first time.

Some units can not capture cities.

@ Harrier

He said he killed all defences, and was not asked to raze or establish governor. Witch means he captured that city.

@ Ub33r-L33ch

First of all 1 H473 n00b l4n6u463 and 4lph4b7h.

2.6ghz is not slow, but Civ 4 works slower on Sempron than AMD and intel. If you have Sempron Processor, no wonder it is slow.
I got Athlon 3500+ and I have a feeling its slow too. Mostly thanks to stack promotions, Better AI, and other mods implanted.
If you are playing 2.1.3 for Vanilla Civ, dont expect much, as this is "old" one with mercenary component installed and building cities on Ice titles. This slowes game B.I.G time.

Known bug.
I beleve that it is made becouse :
1) mercenary component
2) if you did not raze all building you cant raze city by capturing it. Jewish temple for instance is hardest to get razed.
3) Palace inside barbarian city. On World map all Barbarian cities have Palace built, to make em put more than 1 defending units and thus slow down player expantion + make some barbarian threat, as they dont spawn on World Map
4) Dont know ;)

There is a unit "demolition troop" that becomes available with Engeinering, if my memory serves right. It can raze buildings/wonders/cities of your own. Never tried to actually use it in foreign cities.

Its not a Sempron its a Dual Core AMD Athlon 64-bit processor. And when I say its 2.6ghz it IS 2.6ghz, not a 2600+ that is 1.8ghz or something. The stock core speed of this processor is 2.2ghz, I have it overclocked to 2.6ghz. The video card and RAM are also overclocked running at higher than stock speeds. Its not THE fastest gaming computer by any means, but it is very fast.

I'm playing this TR 2.0 Gold for Warlords, not Vanilla Civ4. IIRC I had the option to install the mercenary component during the install, and I did not install the mercenaries.

Known bug.

How do I raze all the buildings in the city before I capture it? As someone else said about tanks or choppers or whatever ... I'm in the early game still and all I have is short swordsmen and archers.

I realize why the game would be slower with all the new stuff added and that it would have to calculate alot more things etc. but I didnt think it would be this much slower at loading the next round. Its literally twice as long or more. Granted I am playing a custom game, HUGE map, and 9 AI players on Highlands, but vanilla warlords is at least twice as fast loading the next round.

@ Harrier

I know he killed all defenders.

The point I was making is that if you kill the last defender with a tank or helicopter unit you do not capture the city. You have to use another unit i.e. rifleman, cavalry etc. to enter the city that now has no defenders.

When Ub33r-L33ch replayed, he probably used the attacking units in a different order thus capturing the city with the last (but different) attacker.

Edit.

Ok from the post above he did not have those units.

My AMD 3500+ is avtually clocked 3576 mhz (3,576 ghz).
Dual core is not as effective in games. Bad choise for gamers, my brother has 4ghz dual clock, rest of PC in same as mine (exept mainboad ofcourse) and he runs TR Gold slower than I. 300 turn to 301 takes 24 seconds in my PC, in his (same savegame) takes 26 seconds.

And main thig is that TR changes game code, not only adds dlls and stuff. Check Sevomod, it doesnt slow game even a bit (maybe a bit).

And Gold is not so slow. Im in middleages (actually AI is, my Incas are disadvantaged). Beta 3 WAS SLOW. 300 turn took 50 or more seconds for me.

Granted I am playing a custom game, HUGE map, and 9 AI players on Highlands, but vanilla warlords is at least twice as fast loading the next round.

HUGE map + HIGHLANDS = MAP filled with places for barbarian units and cities to spawn and walk arround. 9 AI is also bad for speed, as this means he can send more scouts and scout larger area without beibng blocked by enemy cultural borders. Only small amout of AI players can help, but as i said, this only give more space for barbarians to spawn and walk arround.
Besides Slavary and Serfom rebelions also take place and slow down the game, not to mention Better AI bug with Large Unir stacks and no intention of stopping producing them.
You took The Worst map for fast turn wait.

@ Harrier

1)

This mean not only he killed all defenders, but also captured the city without giving him a choise eigther to raze or establish.

Understandin the thing that one read - thats where Polish education puts great pressure. ;)

A little OT but:

Dual Core processors are not slower than their single core counter parts in any situation clock per clock. If you know someone with a similar system but has dual core and is acting slower there could be MANY reasons for this. I assure you Dual Core is not slower.

I am not saying Dual Core is faster than Single Core for gaming either. It will only be faster if the game has been coded for it, otherwise its just the same as a single core.
