[mod] TOTAL REALISM 2.0

Ouch.

Okay, the updated map I found buried in the patch mod isn't compatible with version 2.01. Trying to load it through the advanced, load a mod, restart way even with copying it to the worldbuilder files will crash you out and unload the mod. I can play random maps without an issue but random maps are about as interesting to me as watching paint dry or perhaps a political debate. Either way it's something I can't do. I believe the map compatibility is the main issue here but then I'm only guessing. The workaround listed above still doesn't give me a choice of Totalrealism Map.

Take your time with the fix, there's plenty of other things to do in life than sit in front of a computer and conquer the world.

On my side, "sometimes", I cannot load the MOD at all.
(I always play "random maps".)

But through advanced, load a MOD, problem is gone!

Your problem is different.. like you're saying, maybe a map compatibility problem.

Hey guys,

The one aspect of this mod that I greatly appreciate is the world map w/ the appropriate starting locations. I have installed the new patch and when I go into the "scenario" menu, I can play the Earth-18civ map. It seems to be the accurate map, but there is just as much lag as before. If there is something I'm missing here, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

Isn't that Firaxis's original earth map, and not Total Realism Earth Map?

My apologies for an unclear question. That was the only option in terms of earth (world) maps that I could choose. So I guess my question should be, how do I get the TR Earth Map? Again, I apologize for being unclear.

I think the TR map is installed under the Mod file and that you have to move it from there to your Public Maps to play it as a scenario. Unless the .exe now installs it directly into the Public Maps folder. I'll dl it once I get back from lunch and give it a go - see if I have any problems.

@rumbold:
installer always copy map to PublicMap directory, but there is other problem - installer badly update mod name in map file

i am sorry for all problems with patch..i don't know, why method which working in base installer now produce bad map file
so for now (and for quick repair), just remove qoutes around mod name from map files (TotalRealismWorldmap.Civ4WorldBuilderSave under World_map in mod folder and under Public maps - open file in editor, there is at line 20 ModPath="Mods\Total Realism", must be ModPath=Mods\Total Realism

new patch will be provided in few minutes

again, i am sorry for it

Really? - man I got to stop :smoke:...it's hurting my memory. Maybe it's just because I'm getting :old:

You don't have to apologize though. I think everyone here knows you guys are doing what you can to put out a great mod, so no worries.

ok, new patch downloaded to SF, right now dostributed on SF servers, new version must have size 3014538 bytes, old (bad) version has 3016095 bytes

A suggestion disregarding the patch (haven't d/led it yet).

Aman spy was created as Judaist UU back then in a mod designed for vanilla civ. Now, when everyone has an informant, this guy is all but useless. What do you guys think? My idea is to transfom him into a "little great merchant" just as Zoros have a "little great artist".

but informant is limited to one per civ, can't steal plans (but you are right, maybe this religion units need more adjustment)

...BUT if I switch the line...

; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none
Mod = Total Realism

Mod = 0

and load the MOD using the ADVANCED OPTIONS, no problem it seems...
I think it should be:
Mod = Mods\Total Realism

Okay, for idiots like me, I'll post the best way to use the world map once again. You can even use the old hotbuttons that got dumped on your desktop.

Click into the "my computer" button on your taskbar and go into your forbidden C drive. It's kinda scary for some of us but don't worry, I'll hold your hand and lead you through it.

Once you are in the C drive, look for "program files". Double click on that and soon you'll see a bunch more junk, namely everything you've put on your computer. Look for "Fireaxis Games" then double click it. Civilizations 4 will be an option so double click that.

Now's when it gets really scary. Don't worry, you'll be fine. One of the folders near the top is called "Public Maps". Double click that one then look at all of the buttons until you see TotalRealismWorldmap.

Once you've found it, right click it. Don't double click it, just hit the right one. Hit the option "Open with..." A nasty little scroll bar will appear and choose WordPad. I picked that one because everyone with windows has it.

A whole whack of scary looking black print is going to appear. At the end of the first "block" of lines you're going to see mod/"TotalRealism". It's the bottom line of the first paragraph if you will.

Just like you're using a word processor, deleat the quotation marks, both the one at the beginning of "TotalRealism" and the end. With those two things deleated, hit the save button at the top of that window (looks like an old floppy disc) then close everything down.

You did it! Now you can use your world map again. Happy conquering :p

Hey Mexico, I thought I'd update you with what I'm recieving (more than likely it is due to my own error).

After installing the patch, the earthmap short-cut does not load the game. I was able to load the mod through advanced & load a mod. After doing that and selecting the TR map through scenarios, I was able to start the game. Unfortunately, I was experiencing the same about of delay in between turns.

EDIT: I got the short-cut to work, but the delay is still present.

OK I am back. I was on an interesting Seminar (yes I know its Sunday) But I love history, philosophy and archeology. :)

Sorry to hear the patch had a problem. But now it shall be fixed hopefully. Let us know how the performance is :D
