Hi everyone, I just got CIV III complete, and I have a few questions I hope can be answered.

First, based on what I hear around here, there isn't a map editor (!?!) in C3C, and I can only use other mods? Well, I also have the original civ III that does have a map editor. Can I make maps on that and use them in C3C?

And is it possible to alter the rules in a mod? Main thing I want to do is reduce corruption so that it isn't crippling on huge maps.

Thanks in advance. Even bad news is helpful.

Hello, welcome :wavey:

I delayed a reply in the hope that someone better qualified would come by. However, I guess you'll have to make do with my amateur attempts:

1. Depending on whether you can run a PC emulator on your Mac, you may be able to run the Windows C3C editor. If you can, this is your best option by far. There's a thread here that describes how to do it with Parallels (Intel Mac only) or Virtual PC (any Mac).

2. If option 1 is not available to you then the only editor you have is the old Civ3 one, though I didn't realise that came with Civ3. If you make a map in that editor then you should be able to play it in C3C. It will have none of the extra units, buildings and civs that came with C3C, and it will produce a game that is largely based on the old vanilla rules.

3. Yes, you can change some rules in the old editor. However, I don't think you can do much about corruption. C3C has a different corruption model from Civ3 vanilla in any case, and Communism, for example is far better than it was in vanilla. The old Ring City Placement (RCP) trick to reduce distance corruption doesn't work in C3C, and the remote palace exploit is also fixed. I guess you could mod the game to create more corruption-reducing buildings, but I think you'll still suffer corruption. That was one of the things Firaxis finally took a big knife to in Civ4.

I should say that I didn't try to give an exhaustive list of the things the old vanilla editor can't do. That was the main reason I was hoping a *real* modder would come along to answer this. But you can add to the list the fact that it can't specify civ starting positions.

Thanks. Soumds like I wouldn't find much use with my editor...may as well play the old version. I've found I can download maps and use them ok, do you think if I asked, someone would make me a mod with the only change being corruption down by 75% on a 180x180 (perpetually) random map with 31 civs?

Try them. Post a request in Creation and Customization. I know there have been examples of requests in the mod forum that have been fulfilled.
