Modding Q&A

thanks for the information . Terrain stuff is totally beyond me and ı think ı would like to have the coasts appear different in the "main" scenario ı am on and off for years ... To use seas , do ı write over the relevant thing as units in the editor are referenced Psometing_unit name , so that ı look for the lines in txt file and replace Pcoast with Psea ? ı would actually look them up but surfing in a web cafe has its limitations ...

To change the look you just replace the original graphic file ( .pcx extension). This is how people do so many different terrain sets. If you wanted to change the effect of terrain - travel speeds, etc - then you should use an editor such as Quintillus' .

r16... as Blue Monkey said in the above post, to change and test what you want, backup your files, move the Coastal Terrain to save it and make a copy of the Sea Terrain somewhere then rename it the same name as the Coastal Terrain.
You can play around with this and change what you want by simply renaming the .pcx file and you can change those Files as you like with color, etc...... you won't lose anything in the process.

thanks for both answers , will try as soon as time is available .

I've got a question, in a scenario I'm working on, I have a few civs that I've marked to skip their first turn in the custom player data tab, and for some strange reason it doesn't seem to be working. Only when I play as one of those civs does the first turn get skipped. And I have had some other issues with the custom player data and other tabs, "resetting" to standard defaults. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Can you increase to amount of gold you receive when you take a goodie hut or barbarian camp?

I´m not aware that such a flag in the editor is existing. The flags I have found in the editor that come nearest to this problem, in my eyes are the one in the screenshot attached. I have not tested if this could be of any help.

Hi, Civinator
Thanks for responding but I’m already using the flag units for another mechanism. I’m trying to make some use of the goodie huts and barbarian camps (after the first era) in the Z-Ops mod.
Most units are expected to be hurried so 25 Gold at a time feels like collecting pennies.
Maybe collecting pennies will emphasise the value of a shop’s merchandise.:undecide:

Can goodie huts or barbarian camps be limited to a terrain type?

As far as I know, barbarian camps are managed by the tile properties, not by the terrain settings. This means, for fixed maps, setting each tile of a region where no barbarians should appear, to be a starting location, could prevent that a barbarian camp will pop up at those tiles (I never have tried this). I´m not aware of a possibility to prevent barbarian camps poping up on random maps.

These are bad days.
Oni Ryuu, good luck! :)

Edited: The cakes were a mix-up in my brain.

Oni Ryuu, I will send you a pm.

In Ancient India there were ganapadas - also called ganasangha. Rule was by an assembly of all members of the Bramhin (Scholar/Priest) and Kshatriya (Warrior) castes. The monarch was elected by them (usually for life), with other officers from the assembly responsible for practical affairs such as finance, infrastructure, etc. The typical practice in Ancient India by great conquerors such as Ashoka was to leave the ganapadas in place as local administrators with the monarchs in effect the governors. You can see this carrying through all the way up to Raj India with the working arrangements between the East India Company and the various princely states.

Thanks, Blue Monkey

I’ve added Gaṇa sangha as a republic replacement for India. They should get it during the late classical era.
You might consider making their golden age triggers buildable with that government. Also, most mods choose to focus on Northern India. It's worth taking a look at the Dravidian culture(s) of Southern India for your mod. Roman luxury imports from Central/Southern India via Africa were lucrative enough that the Roman Senate had debates about balance of trade, to give you an idea of their influence.

I'd recommend taking the Chola dynasty - which spanned from the Classical era up through the 14th century - as your model. Their cultural accomplishments are often referred to as the Indian Renaissance.

I'm pretty sure that Rob made some appropriate leaderheads. There are certainly enough units.

They had an impressive navy for the era. Not as landlocked as the Northern dynasties. It's the era when Indian culture really spread into the Malaysian peninsula. Places like Angkor Wat were built by Indianized states.

ı actually read just yesterday this Chola state was the real cause for the end of Zheng He style voyages . With them acting as middlemen , traders did not have spend a whole year in voyages and instead could sail for just a month or two . So , maybe their Great Wonder , if any , could need two resources that could be provided only by foreign trading partners , if you go to war with them ... But , a wonder would still provide happiness without the required resource ?

Having problems with pediaicons

Also the description I wrote is not appearing for it. Is this just Civ3 being temperamental?

Not enough info. For us to help we need to see the editor page and the lines in pediaicons/and perhaps civilopedia. If you give us what we need up front, then it would go quicker to single out possible problems.
