Moderator or Military Police ?

I wasnt agree with zouave beeing ban and a moderator told me that on off topic post my rank is pretty high.

I answered many newbi question, some very repititive, like how to use a spy and so on. i had always give right advice and comments. I always refer my comment to the tread or a previous post.

I dont know what is going on in your staff room, did you change governement, did you switch from democraty to monarchy. So you need military police to keep the boss happy ?

I guess i will ban myself i was happy here with some new friend( like Killer) but now i dont know. i put energy to help newbies then i got for nothing.

I realy hate military police but i could tolerate a wise moderator.

Your post was very off-topic in that thread, the ranking was a play on words, from earlier in the thread.

Your contributions are appreciated, you weren't being warned for giving advice or answering questions, you were warned for posting off-topic in that thread.

We just enforce the rules we're given. That's all that's asked of us and it's all that was done.

Well, basically spamming/off-topic posting. It wasn't once, nor twice, nor thrice. Nay, it was many times(more than you can count on your fingers...and toes) /mid-ages

There was also a slew of other offenses built up over time and eventually it was decided in the staff forum that the next offense earned 1 month as the shorter bans had no apparent affect. CoH pmed me about the thread and it was agreed that the ban should take place, that is why the post itself is signed,

The actual offense he was banned on was not too bad, and if there was no history, would've earned a simple warning. But, regarding the circumstances, the ban was implemented and documented in the staff forum as well as personally between CoH, Thunderfall, and I.

In 29(30?) days, zouave will be welcomed back and his posting privelages will be activated again. We do not expect any more problems and certainly hope for the best. The 1 month ban was a last resort, obviously 1 month bans are rare but it was decided that it was necessary in this case.

I don't know the details behind this but agree that zouave has quite a substantial back catalogue of inflammatory posts and no change of heart after short bans. I appreciate that we should not be fawning over Civ 3 as if it's a blessing from God, but nor should we be ripping it to shreds as Zouave wants to. It's not perfect, but then what game is? I can even think of some improvements that could be made to Civ 2! We are here because we love the Civ series and to relentlessly criticise without even a pretense of constructive criticism smacks of flaming to me.

It's probably the right thing to do, although any of such banning is a sorry sad affair. Even I know something of Zouave's reputation, despite being an irregular and indifferent Civ3 GD visitor.

Well that, of course, is the entire purpose of the ban. It is quite a sad affair, I do not enjoy banning people and no moderator does. Of course, banning guys who post porno and warez links on their first and only posts don't inspire any feelings of guilt or sadness. Banning is done to better the poster and CFC.

And duke, please keep your comments/sexual preference to yourself

Zouave give his opinion on artillery and the moderator said his opinion about artilery is not require by the thread. it make no sense at all.

If i start a thread about naval warfare and killer said that battle shipe strenght is too low and need to be increase ( which will be perceive as a rant), will he got a ban ?

Zouave love civ 3, he made mod, and give some advice. Of course he complaint about some anoying stuf in the game and most of the time he is right.

Zouave never deserve a 1 month ban for what he says. I dont care about saying what i think, i am a free spirit and open mind.

No, complaining about civ3 is fine, but it must follow the rules.

Read up, that thread isn't about artillery. It's called combat WITHOUT artillery and the author asked how many units are required to overcome a city.

Not much to say except, yes he did. Seeing as you have no access to the staff forum or zouave's inbox you do not have all of the information pertaining to the ban and therefore cannot make an accurate judgement in this matter. Of course, you are free to voice your opinion.

Yeah, he has contributed. (Un)fortunately breaking the rules will land you a ban, regardless of your contributions.

Tassadar, haven't you read gonzo's response? Zouave's banned based on his history of rather inflamatory postings, not just on that one single post. Since short bans hadn't any effect on him, the powers-that-be have decided on a stronger course of action.

The thread ask how to take fortify infantry without artilery and zouave said taking 3 fortified infantry without artilery is almost imposible and then he got ban.( he said silly oh boy what an offense)

He didnt break any rule in this post no matter how his reputation in history. You choose a pretex and ban him on a emotive state.

I read enough post about zouave to be able to judge that he didnt deserve a month ban according to your rule.

Anyway like any little boss i meet in real life, you act like a little king who posses the truth and can applied his own law to other with some weird interpretation.

There are other BBs that discuss Civ so if you're not entirely happy here then we would hate to deprive you of the fun you could be having elsewhere. In fact, if you go to the front page and look at the links you'll find many other sites worthy of interest for the true Civ fanatic.
If you'd like to stay then don't forget that this site is not some kind of democracy so don't expect a say in what goes on. You can express your much-vaunted freedom of expression and engage us all with your open mind, but if you trangress the rules of the site then you've only got yourself to blame. The rules are clearly stipulated, and newbies are allowed a settling-in period, but if you go crazy then don't be surprised if you ain't welcomed on your return. Life is no bowl of cherries, and neither is CFC. It's a brilliant site, with devoted members, but if it's not to your taste then I reckon it'd be foolish for it to change as a result of what you alone may think.

Duke is not on the staff here, but that doesn't really matter - what he says is pretty-much spot-on. This is a discussion board, and Duke does not have to be staff to respond. The structure of the rules are laid-down by TF, and the members contribute to the smooth operation. The moderators (staff) are there to make sure everyone behaves themselves, and moderate.

Aside from this, it boils down to the fact that this is TF's site, and it operates under his rules.

You seem to think that this banning is a particular singling-out of Zouave. This is incorrect - other posters have been banned for similar offences over time. In fact, I have seen many moderators defending Zouave from attacks.

The point that made me is i was tell that my ranking for off topic post is very high ( with dark red ) and it is not thrue, he said after that , its a wordplay. Do you make wordplay with dark red comments as a moderator. I dont think so. Prove me that i post off topic comment( very very few).

You know what, i think some firaxian doesnt like to ear some negative comments and put some pressure on the staff to ban those politicaly undesirable poster. But i could be wrong on that.

He didn’t specifically tell you to go elsewhere. He just pointed out to you that the site has rules, and if you don’t like the rules at this site, there are other sites with different rules.

I can’t speak for him, but in my opinion, the problem with your ‘feedback’ is that it is not constructive. Quotes like “you act like a little king who posses the truth and can applied his own law to other with some weird interpretation” are fairly inflammatory.

I think you are, and again, this is fairly inflammatory.

If this was the policy, there would be a lot of people banned. Again, IMO it is about being constructive in your criticism.

It ok ainwood, i wont stay in bad mood all day, i prefer much more technical debate about civ3 ( like urban legend of de-foresting create global warming and thing like that).

But my point again is zouave didnt deserve a ban for this post, and neither i deserve a warning for posting WAY too much off topic post. I rely on fact not on perception which was the case here in moderator action( to emotive? maybe)
