Modern-Day Enhancement Mod:

Couldn't you leave the political discussion to an off-topic thread? This is about a Civ3 Mod, please.

I think Indonesia, Argentina, and Pakistan should be civs, in terms of real world strength (and population). Nigeria also comes to mind. You shouldn't put too many civs in Europe. I also think Austria shouldn't be a civ. Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, or Romania would have made better Eastern European civs.

I made the Byzantines Romania, actually..

Just a tease, working on the latest version. :) So far I'm working on two issues- the Greek city list and the Australian great leaders. Anyone have any ideas you'd like to contribute?

I could see Romania but the others cross the line! The Byzantines were Greeks and most of their cities were in Ancient Greece (including Turkey which was mostly Greece), and considering changing the Byzantines to Turks? The Turks and Byzantines were longtime enemies. That's why in Greece there is still rivalry!

Don't worry. ;) The Ottoman Turks were replaced by Turkey, not Byzantium. :)

Hi, Smellincoffee, I'm a little late to the whole adding mods thing, but when I downloaded this one the instructions told me to 'extract the two scenario files into Civilization 3/Conquests/Scenarios. "SC's Modern Mod" will let you generate random maps'.

I take it that this means I must have the Conquests version of Civ III to play this, is this correct?

Sadly, yes. The first version of the zip contained a .bic file of vanilla changes (no world map), but I removed it later on. There didn't seem to be any demand for vanilla changes. :(

Much appreciated. :)

For those of you interested, I am working on an update. The Greek city list is done, as is the work on the Australian great leader lists. Currently, I am working on the Peruvian and Brazilian great leader lists. :)

I like the idea of adding the new modern civs, but i have a few q's.

Whys is Canada in Minnesota?

and also, if you put in Iran, Iraq, and Turkey, your should have updated there start locations

I like this mod, but as an Australian, I'm not too happy with the city list.

I have previously made up my own city list, basically from most important to least. I made it up myself and you are welcome to it. I normally play with Sydney as my first city and capital, as it was our founding city in 1788. Canberra wasn't our capital until 1927. Between our federation (1901) and 1927 parliment was held in Melbourne on a temporary basis. Still Sydney remains our largest and most important (and well known) city.

I'd be interested to know the military and scientific leaders list for Australia.

Thanks for the extended city list. :D Here's what I have:

Military
Breaker Morant
Ned Kelly
Weary Dunlop
Field Marshall Sir William Slim

Science
Douglas Mawson
Victor Chang
Fred Hollows
Dame Jean Macnamara

Sounds good.

And one more thing, about the Prime Minister - as much as we love John Howard, there are probably better ones to use for this purpose who had a big part in the founding of our nation.

It would be a tie between:
Edmund Barton (First PM)
Robert Menzies (WWII PM)

Cheers.

While I realised that the list of names you have has been supplied by others, I really must inform you about some of the people who are on that list, who I believe should not be.
Breaker Morant - Australian soldier who was shot after a court martial found him guilty of shooting prisoners of war. Not really a "great military leader". :(
Ned Kelly - Bush Ranger. Irish immigrant who murdered police and others, robbed and stole for selfish reasons, and was eventually captured after a gun battle with police. He was hung. Not really a "great military leader" either. :(
Weary Dunlop - Surgeon. Captured in WWII he spent years in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp. He became famous for a diary he kept of his time there, and for the tremendous service he provided to sick and dying POWs. Not a general, or military commander, but certainly a top soldier and humanitarian.
Slim – A suitable choice. ;)

Some others you might consider are:
General Sir Thomas BLAMEY – Responsible for the command of Australian troops who fought a tremendous and bloody campaign over the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea (a campaign where Australian forces were the first to defeat the Japanese on land). His major flaw was that he allowed himself to be bullied by some American General called Douglas MacArthur, a prize idiot who knew politics and grand strategy, but nothing about the realities of fighting in Kokoda.
Lieutenant General John MONASH – World War I commander who was eventually given command of all Australian Divisions on the Western Front. His crowning glory was the Battle of Hamel, where he successfully combined infantry, armour, artillery, and aviation assets to gain a tremendous victory. He is the father of combined arms operations.
General Peter COSGROVE – The closest thing we have to a successful modern general. He commanded Australian forces that went into East Timor. The operation is considered a benchmark for peace enforcing/peace keeping operations throughout the world. There was not one Australian casualty and order was restored successfully, thus giving birth to the world’s newest country and democracy. ;)

As far as political leaders go, do they have to be Prime Ministers? Would you consider using some pre-federation politicians and Governors?
