Modern Unit Graphics

thanks gents.

Tanelorn has got fantastic versions of the f-104, A-7, F-8 and f-111 already. I was tempted to do the better looking version of the Voodoo, the RF-101, but there wouldn't be much use for it in civ.

How's Burma coming along? :)

All done except balancing the events.A complete reworking is needed, I'm afraid. The Japanese initial offensive is still too slow, and the AI defense of northern and central Burma is poor, allowing the British to retake Mandalay in '43 and Rangoon in '44. Otherwise the play is good, units balanced and the atmosphere is about right.

How about the RAF V bombers? :)

Damn, sorry it needs a major overhaul. Looking forward to a playtest when you're ready.

Ahh, now you piqued my interest :D

Great job G, I love that m47 so much. There is that Ankara armoured division I wanted.
I am sure you can, and hope you will do a much better job than me with everything.
But as agent Archer would put it, "Danger zone" - Top Gun man, Top Gun!

Thanks Timoleon. How were your hols?

I feel the need, the need for speed!!! Can't help but think of this whenever I think of Top Gun now:

I'll stick an F-14 on the to-do list. Might snigger while I'm drawing though

Any road, I've got some late 50's - 60's infantry to compliment your 1980's chappies. Top row: late '50's / early '60's US troops in fatigues with M14's and M60's, and some Airborne in M43 jackets and paratrooper pants on the top row. They would be right for Vietnam circa 1965 as well. Middle row are Vietnam tropical combat uniform with M16's and M60's plus a late 60's-early 70's Marine in camo and special forces bloke in Tiger-Stripe camo. Bottom row are Brits in the M58/60 combat dress which was replaced by DPM camo in the late 1960's.

US Cavalry dude rocks, makes me want to watch "We were soldiers" again :D.

I find it odd how the sensation of this year (in the military sphere) is still now drawn by you!

(I am talking about T-14 ''Armata'', for when you decide to draw something Russian)

What's hard to believe, really, is that, after all this time, Fairline HASN'T done an F-14 Tomcat yet...

Blimey, I didn't even know that existed! I guess that is the result of those T-95/99-whatever prototypes which were about 5 or 6 years ago. There are some similarities with the T-95 I drew, but I'm gonna have to draw this new T-14 now.... together with the new heavy APC, light APC, SPG.... damn you Strelok :D :D

late 1950's - 1970's Soviet infantry. The only change to the uniform going into the 70's and 80's was the adoption of a normal jacket in place of the old WW2 gymnastroika peasant top.

I hate to be ''that guy'' but one note on the AK! Or more like two!

One: That AKM rifles are way too long. On order to compare, lets take Tanelorn's greek and Turkish infantry units that are armed with G-3 rifles. The G-3 rifle is long 1.05 meters while the AK-74 is long only 0.95 meters. In all graphics the AK looks longer than the G-3 and a little bit too thick, like three pixels instead of two in the chamber area.

Two: The units you drew in the last post are correct in terms of uniforms and of high qualirty as Mc.Honey Badger :D pointed out! But they are still with the bakelite AK-74 style magazines you drew. In the 1950's the Soviet army was armed with AKM and AK-47 rifles wich had black magazines.

But still, this post comes from a guy who know almost nothing when comes to unit drawing so if you tried to do it dimentionally correct and it looked ugly, then sorry for turning out as a useless rant!

Thanks Strelok - useful pointers. So those mags were brown because they are made from bakelite eh?

Fairline, will you do Vietnamese units? If so, I shall shortly send scenarios of the Vietnam War.

Can you pass your eye over these changes please Strelok? shorter / thinner / blacker AK47-ish rather than AK-74.

So I saw in his Vietnam scenario thread that Tootall (or Tanelorn?) had drawn some excellent NVA / VC. If he wants to save them for the release of his scenario I'll gladly draw some. :)

It would be good because in several scenarios, there is only one unit, but several of the troops of North Vietnam, South and Vietcong (strike normal and general) and even more ... I do not believe that the amount is a problem. ;)
