Modified Scenarios Workshop

Wow! That was fast. Thanks very much. My long weekend is looking up.

Glad to help. Like you, I decided to take a break from my current project and work on a few scenarios that Gapetit might not have had the opportunity to work on or complete and that I was particularly interested in. I'm actually enjoying the process.

Can't recommend using Catfish's conversion guide enough though. There are a lot of little tweaks here and there that are required to bring a conversion project to a successfull conclusion.

I'm sending the entire converted project but unfortunately the attached files won't be of any use to you. All the image files were scambled and they wouldn't fit the ToT format even if they weren't scrambled. In addition, the converter doesn't really update the rules or game text files to the required ToT format either. If you require assistance on updating the rules and game files I can help. The changes required are not that significant.

Let me know.

Tootall the images you have to convert them previously to a bmp of 24 bits, and then the converter adapts it directly.

Hi Gapetit,

Obviously, I still have things to learn :mischief:. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Tech,

I converted the images to 24 bit, as Gapetit recommended, and reconverted the whole scenario (see newly attached zip file). I took the liberty to update the rules and game files. I added a @cosmic2 section to the rules file to make it ToTPP compatible as well, so you can play around with the features you would like to add.

I did a quick test and the scenario appears to run well. As such, you have all the basics in place to make the changes you like.

HI Gapetit,

I'm play testing my ToT conversion of Captain Nemo's Second Front scenario and I've come across an unusual bug. It appears as though all the Wonders are out of sequence by one row between the rules file and the scn file, e.g. the "Liberation!" wonder is coming up as the Colossus rather than the Hanging Gardens wonder. The "Major Harbor" is coming up as the Great Library rather than the Lighthouse wonder, etc.

I suspect this is related to the fact that in ToT you have the "Transporter" spot in the @IMPROVE section, whereas there is no such row in MGE.

Have you ever encountered this problem before. Is there a fix?

EDIT: Never mind. The problem was related to the pedia file which I hadn't converted correctly. Therefore the wonder descriptions were out of order by one. :o

Hi MacGalleo,

I have to admit this is another scenario I never played but your conversion makes me want to give it a try. Good job!

Oh yeah that LOTR scenario was pretty damn epic back in the day. I sucked so bad at it lol

LOTR was truly groundbreaking for it's day. Harlan utilized the Rules Txt. to combine different capabilities to create new units, changed wonders and improvements, created new graphics and sounds. It's all standard stuff now, but back in the day it was very innovative.

Harlan was basically the Patriarch of civ2 creation... He and Allard and a few others just churned out some incredible work back in the day.

Then Alex and Nemo came along and really blew the scene wide open showing us all how beautiful the game could be.

Then there were a few knuckleheads like you who insisted on using that pain TOT for years and years, getting the most out of civ possible before the rest of us caught on ;)

On that note--get your scenarios over to the scenario league before they are lost forever, will ya? :)

Yes I will. Eventually. :p

As for getting the most out of Civ by using ToT, have you tried Catfish's War of the Ring, made for ToT? On 4 levels, with state of the art graphics and the best Rules tricks and events around, it is really "the most out of civ". http://users.tpg.com.au/jpwbeest/jp_wotr.htm

Can't say that I have... when I finish OTR and don't feel guilty about doing anything else with civ, I'll have to try it.

I have been modifying the added scenarios, removing any defect or error that prevented them from enjoying them. I think I have already finalized the arrangements.
And I am going to add some more scenarios, already treated and in which I have also removed the failures. I realized that for example, I had not added any WW1 scenarios. I will include several starting with Kaiser de Curt.
I include: a redux version of The Lord of the Rings by Harlan Thompson; a corrected version of KOMNENAI by Maciej Czy¿ (Catfish converted); Darius the Great by Stefan Härtel; and October War by Nani.
I add three scenarios that I do not think I add in principle, but that have wonderful units and have no errors, although the developments of the scenarios are not complex.
But if they like several people I will include it.
