Monarch charming

I started to play and declared on him. Destroyed one of his archers first and other one with the settler in second turn(he moved his settler 2N of copper) but then my pc stopped working. I checked and i probably lost my mainboard. I will change it in 1 week. So someone pls take my turn. I will be ready for second turnset.

1N of copper is the best location to settle the second city. We'd better research writing and then alphabet.
[pissed]:badcomp: I hate it when that happens! Good luck getting back up!

Ouch... Tough luck :undecide: Good luck with that.

I'll pick it up this evening.

I will declare and attack as mrt309 did, and then we have a few decisions to make (with my preferences in parentheses):

writing then alphabet, or writing then HBR then archery (for the horse archer)? (I think HBR).
I think HBR>Archery would be key, also would help if we need to rush someone else.

Which city do we go for first? Shaka's capital or 2nd city? (2nd city, so we can produce more chariots before going for the capital).
2nd city should only have 2 archers, that's how the AI usually sets cities up. If we could scout those out while build chariots would be great.

Do we raze or keep Shaka's 2nd city (raze!).
raze, depending on location

Do we immediately go for settling a new city or wait for the war to be almost over? (immediately, but we need 1 or 2 of the chariots as escorts).
we'd lose a few chariots building a settler. Depending on how many to take Shaka's capitol, if you have enough then yes.

Where do we settle first? (1W of copper)

:agree:

From now on, it's 10 turns each.

1800 BC (1) - Switched research to writing. Declared war.

Killed archer. found missing archer in the north. He's wounded. I'll be the hyena :D

Spoiler :
distantarcher.jpg

1760 BC (2) - chariot is complete. Training another one. Only 1 hammer missing for it to complete in 1 turn instead of 2, so I switched working the fish to a hill.

Promoted the victorious chariot and attacked the 2nd archer.
We captured a worker (previously known as a Zulu settler) :)

Our chariot in the north killed the archer there.

Shaka's 2nd city is umgund... ummm...
uMgundugu... <ahm> <ahm> :shifty:
uMgungundlovu (that was hard!). And you were right, it has 2 archers.

Spoiler :
umgungundlovu.jpg

Started moving the settler with a chariot as an escort. Once we have copper we can rule the world! I think (I'll check with the civilopedia). Also dropped research to 90% because of 0 gold and -1 gpt situation.

1720 BC (3) - Shaka sent a garrison I archer from his capital to get us. We are positioned to take the hit.

1680 BC (4) - The Zulu archer got cold feet and retreated. Advancing our troops. Started chopping a forest with our veteran worker and his new friend. The settler is waiting with a chariot for just the right moment to break through and build us a new city. Research is now at 80% (unit supply).

1640 BC (5) - Chopped the forest. Another chariot is just 1 turn away. We have 3 chariots next to uMgungundlovu (just copy paste this time... ;) ), just have to move them so they won't have to cross river to attack. I think I'll wait for a 4th chariot, since attack chances are not super (22% with combat I).

1600 BC (6) - Research at 70%. Chariot is done, starting on... chariot!

1560 BC (7) - Met Roosevelt. I guess there shall be peace in our time.
Damn! Shaka has now 3 archers in his 2nd city. I still think I should have waited, and soon we'll have 5 there and then attack. Done chopping another forest and completed another chariot.

1520 BC (8) - Shaka advanced his archer again. Research is at 60%. Switched working tiles in Seoul to hammers to complete chariot in 1 turn and since we are at max happy size anyway. A little starvation has never hurt anybody, right? :yumyum:

Spoiler :
seoul1520bc.jpg

We have 5 chariots ready to attack next turn.

1480 BC (9) - Judaism FIDL. Another chariot is complete. And now - to battle:

1st Chariot attacks archer at 22% - and won! A true hero!
2nd chariot has died, but not before wounding another archer.
3rd chariot attacks at 28% - the new archer is not so well fortified: And loses.
4th chariot slays the not-so-wounded archer.
5th chariot razes the city. We got 48 gold.

Spoiler :
raze.jpg

Going back up to 100% research for some deficit researching.

1440 BC (10) - Settler is in position to found the city next turn, protected by 2 chariots.
Since it's my last turn, I have left a few chariots unmoved. The chariots from the city raze are wounded, and all 3 of them can be promoted.

I have just noticed the warrior on the far end of the continent. Why was he asleep all this time? He can be moved as well.

Writing is up in 1 turn, and so is the next chariot in Seoul. I think it can be the last one. We have enough to take Shaka's capital. I didn't explore it yet, so we might want to do that first before deciding if we have enough.

Note that our 2 workers are outside our borders (finished a road and can move now). They are protected by 1 chariot, and they have a Zulu archer next to them.

Seoul is no longer at max happiness, since the whipping angry face has worn off.
I leave it as it is, but the working tiles should probably be changed now. And we can whip a lighthouse or something later.

Looks good, Asaf :goodjob:

I'm starting to lean toward mrt309's suggested spot of 1N of the copper so we can resettle Shaka's old city one tile north of where it was to work that gold hill. If we weren't too far from CS, I'd even say settle 1N1E of the copper on the desert tile - it would give us a few coastal tiles to work (very nice with Financial :D ) and with CS we can farm those grasslands and work the copper and the three hills for a nice production city.

What do you guys think? It would be a slow city until CS, but I think a better location overall, and reclaims the useless desert tile.

yeah you suck:yeah:

Then my work here is done :crazyeye:

Yes, I think NE of copper is a good spot, and we get the spot we wanted earlier (1N of the city ruins).
We need to hurry though, so I guess whipping goes for another settler.

Another issue - we have almost no protection in Seoul, so Archery next with some archers might be a good idea.
We should be OK financially for now, especially if (when!) we're going to conquer another city. But after the war we should really cottage up a little.

Settling 1N of Shaka's ruins would give us a lot of riverside grasslands to cottage.

Just checking in, been a couple days since any new activity here :)

I dug up the roster to see who was next ~

Stop atm, where to go? 4 turns of roading, then 4t for mine. Could keep pillaging everything, he has :culture: borders close to the horse in the SW.

Wow - I can't believe he resettled that spot - why couldn't he have moved one north? lol

I would guess fight defensively until we can get that copper hooked up - can we spare a couple of chariots to scout out that third city - make sure he doesn't have copper there and if he does make sure he doesn't hook it up?

Shaka is a pain indeed.

I think we have about 7 chariots.
We can send 4 to raze the new (old) city (Shaka has 2 archers there, right?) and then continue to the 3rd one. It's not even a detour :)

If we use both workers, does it still take that long to connect the copper? I think road + mine can finish in 4 turns with 2 workers, or am I mistaken?
We definitely need some axeman to take down Ulundi. But for the other cities we probably can use chariots.

Is the 3rd city in a good spot? Do we want to keep it?

BTW, mrt309 - how's your PC (if you can access the forum at all...)?

10 turns. I build a granary for the 50% :food:, better than a lh atm
axes take 3t, however working max ocean tiles with 2t of 0%:science: would give enough to run 100%:science: HBR would be done in 9t. Archers vs HAs no match, plus axes. Shaka can only build archers so we can just pillage everything and stay at war picking off stray archers for GG XP until axes get around.

We've got Shaka pressed under our thumbs :trouble:
Nice going cripp7

I think we should not build many cottages for now near copper town, since it's not going to grow anytime soon anyway. We should instead use the workers to chop some army and a settler in there.

And it looks like the AI placed Nobamba in a not-so-ideal location (again). We don't want to miss the commerce bonus from the silk :gold::gold::gold:

So do you agree with the following micro-plan:
Build a settler and 2-3 axeman, raze Bulawayo with these axeman and a few chariots, and immediately build our city there (well, 1N of there).

And then continue the war.

Plan sounds good to me, I will work on getting another settler out and continue chipping away at Shaka. I will be able to play tonight, so any other input before then will also be taken into consideration.

1080 BC - 800 BC

Not a very eventful turnset :)

We meet Saladin

Roosevelt wants us to cancel deals with Napoleon - I decline

nonewdeal.jpg

In summary I built a couple of axemen and started the settler. I turned off research to try to get some cash to upgrade our warrior. We do have an archer in the capital, and Shaka's archer is entering our territory up there.

archer-1.jpg

The units by Bulawayo can attack this turn after promotions are handed out, but you may want to wait for at least one more axeman.

The save ~

Finally I had a chance to look at the save...

So, axes are up and running. Good job :)
We could attack this turn, but I agree with mlinneak that we should wait for another axe.

Then promote, raze and settle.

I thought of two things -

We should cancel the OB with everyone (Napo and Roosevelt). We gain nothing (for now) but get the -1 "you refused to stop trading with our mostest hated loathsome and awful enemy, so we hate you". Only for Roosevelt now, but I'm sure more will come.

I also don't think setting to research to 0% helps us. It will take us 10 turns at this rate to upgrade the warrior to axeman. we can build it in a lot less.

And don't forget to promote the Seoul archer to city garrison II before the archer comes any closer. We only have 1 unit there and I don't think we should take the chance.
We can send the warrior back in, and send the chariot from copper town to intercept (and send another chariot from down south to replace it for now).

Well, 3 things :p

Let's wait a while for mrt309 to respond. a couple of days maybe?
