Monarch charming

Ok, Asaf, thanks - playing 10 now, will post shortly and you will be able to pick it up tomorrow.

620 AD - 820 AD

Switch Furry Cow to Library
Move units towards Nobamba, healing as needed

Seoul - HA -> Lighthouse

Judaism spreads to our lands - we do not convert at this time

judaism.jpg

Cowville - Worker -> Settler

700 AD - Great Library BIFL, Roosevelt kicks off a Golden Age

Saladin offers us this deal

saladintradeno.jpg

I accept. Everyone else has both HRB and Currency and it was almost an even trade.

currency.jpg

I set Code of Laws for courthouses to help our finances

Hinduism has spread to us as well, we still do not convert

Hinduism.jpg

Seoul - Lighthouse -> Archer for cheap MP
Copper Town - Archer -> Archer

Seoul - Archer -> Market

820 AD we are not cultured :(

notcultured.jpg

Nobamba is ours, and Shaka is no more!

nobamba.jpg

The French got that nice wheat spot before we were able to :( not sure now what we will want to do with that settler.
Some units remain unmoved still I think this turn. Hopefully now that the war is over as well and our units can chill out in our home territory we will save a little on maintenance.

The save ~

Looks good, mlinneak

I will be able to watch the save this evening.

So, the next thing obviously is to build up economy and research.

Where should we found our next city? Any thoughts on this?

BTW, regarding cultural - we now have 3 religions in our lands (if I remember correctly), and in a small map we only need 2 temples per cathedral (it's like that in BTS, pretty sure it's the same here). I know we don't have any wonders yet, and we're behind in tech, but... :cooool: Just a thought.

So... do we want to start war with anyone else now, and buildup some more military?

I'll post more coherent and detailed thoughts after I look at the save.

we have enough :gold: to run 100%, hire 2 scientist in Seoul, we need that ademy bad. also, I don't know if it's just my pc, why can't we build monuments?

We can settle on the spice to grab the whale (<Optics) otherwise not sure. Once iron is hooked up we can trade copper for whatever.

True only 2 temples, need Meditation & Music. Lib would be nice for FR to go :culture: victory.

Will do.

Do we have calendar? In warlords it is obsolete with calendar, not astronomy.
Actually, do we even have mysticism?

FR and FS.
I have only recently started playing BTS, and my one victory there (for now) was a cultural one.
Apparently in BTS it is better to have a state :religion: because of the sistine chapel changes (but I'm sure you already know that ;)).
In our case FR is definitely better for :culture: victory.

I'm not sure yet about whether we should go for it though. Will look at the save. Need to see if anyone else has music or liberalism (for the GA and free tech), or if we have a shot at sistine.

I want to hear your opinions before we commit to this. If we go for :culture:, I'll press on missionaries and temples. If not - I'll try building up some more military.

We do have Mysticism, I was being prompted to research Meditation.
We do have Calendar, I started building a couple of plantations.

yes we do have calendar and mysticism.

roosy is the closest to music, he has lit. Louis has LBs so our HAs would need a lot of cats for damage.

Looking at the save...

It looks like Roosy already has music (we wouldn't see it), since he popped a great artist not too long ago (and used it for his golden age).
And we are very behind in tech, and 2 rivals already have theology... I don't think cultural is viable.

On the other hand, war against napo is far from easy, at least ATM.

I'll work on infrastructure and we'll see the stats in 10 turns. I think this is what we should do now anyway.

820 AD (IHT) -
Going for deficit research at 100% (-57gpt). CoL in 3.
Looking for trades... none available.
Moved some units into western cities.
Sending warrior back to scout Napo's territory and beyond.

IBT - Napo switch to vassalage, but doesn't have 'enough on our hands' excuse. He has worse enemies than us. Fingers crossed :please:

840 AD (1) - Units moving, workers working. Dye connected (I think dye was last turn).

IBT - Notre Dam was BIFAL.

860 AD (2) - Uh oh...

Spoiler :
napodemands.jpg

Napo wants 100 gold. I don't think we're in a position to refuse, so I give him what he wants. He's still cautious with us (at +3).

Some french garrison scouting:

IBT - Saladin declared on Augustus.

880 AD (3) -

Spoiler :
colw.jpg

Col -> Metal casting (those forges would come in handy).

Copper town: Archer -> Library.
Cowville: Settler -> Market.

Furry cow borders expanded.

Didn't switch to caste system (won't help us now), but we'll see if it's relevant later (Ulundi has the potential to be an excellent GP farm).

I sell CoL to saladin for 1000 gold and to augustus for 60 gold to enable us to keep research, and Napo and Roosy already have them, and I guess they'll have them soon. Better make something out of it when we still can. Research is down to 50% (at -14 gpt). Metal casting in 9.

I start moving the settler to the north like cripp7 suggested (I can't see any other reasonable location either).
Augustus sent an archer to scout our lands.

Some more french garrison scouting:
Spoiler :
merseilles880.jpg

IBT - Hagia Sofia BIFAL.

900 AD (4) - Fur and pigs connected.

And some more french garrison scouting:
Spoiler :
lyons900.jpg

920 AD (5) - Ulundi borders popped.

And some more french garrison scouting:
Spoiler :
orleans920.jpg

IBT - Colossus BIFAL.

940 AD (6) -

OH! I must be :smoke:! I forgot to hire scientist specialists in Seoul! Done.
That shaved a turn of MC, but market is up to 4.

Settler is on the spice with a chariot, and an archer on its way, but I'm waiting for now. It'll only cost us more, and we might come up with a better use for it.

Iron is connected! We can start build swords in Seoul once the market is done (and maybe a forge).

French scouting:
Spoiler :
tours940.jpg

IBT - Augustus offers spice for one of our horses. I turn him down for now (no point in getting "traded with our worst enemy" and we don't need the happy now. We can also get spices by settling...).

960 AD (7) - nothing much. Some more scouting:
Spoiler :
rheims960.jpg

980 AD (8) -

1000 AD (9) - Seoul : Market -> Swordsman.

Looks like a good year to stop.

All in all a boring set of turns.

Metal Casting is up in 1. Seoul should expand next turn and then we can build a quarry on the marble (we have workers there).

As you've noticed, I scouted Napo's land to see his forces. You know what? he's not that strong. I think with a little more military (hwachas and swords) we can take 2-3 of his core cities, and make peace. There are still 2 cities of his which we cannot see (he has 10!). One is in the north (we can see its borders) west of Avignon. The other one is probably somewhere in the west, but I could be mistaken.
He also has a roaming chariot and a roaming HA which I saw.

Ulundi can become a strong GP farm. We need a library there (up in 5) or to switch to caste system. Note that it's close to its happiness limit (so these spices might be useful after all).

Nobamba needs culture. It's building a library (painfully slowly). Maybe a forest can be chopped in the area?

Most of our military is concentrated in Nobamba. Some chariots are spread between Cowville and Furry cow.

We have extra dye and horses, but I don't see a good deal for us ATM (spices?).

The settler still awaits orders on the spices.

After MC, maybe feaudlism for the longbow?

I think that not yet. I have farmed 2 jungles around it but there' not enough population yet. But I can't check the save to be sure.

ok, we can do some trades

August 3gpt>dye
Roosy 5gpt>horse

If we want to try and take a few core cities of Nappy, lots of cats, few spears for HAs/phants and axes for swords. He'll bring a sizable counter-attack which once that's taken out, it'll be a lot better.

Avignon 2LB> 3-4 suicide cats, 4HA, 2-3axe, 2archers
Lyons 2LB, 50%:culture:, walls> 8-10 cats, 4HA, 4-5 swords, 3-4 axes, ? archers to hold that city depending on what he brings in reinforcements. Need to bombard that city to 0%.
Nappy has pikes which means he has Engineering already, hopefully he won't put a castle in there.
I'd go Drama for trade bait, we're WAY behind on techs, everyone has CS already.

I agree we need trade bait, but I think Drama is too cheap for this (we'll get nothing for it, maybe gold).
And it is better if we have LB to defend conquered cities.

why not settle 1W of the spice? could use the sheep to help grow?

You probably mean 1E. And then we'll miss the whale. with a LH it should be enough to grow slowly. It is a possibility though, since we'll get the full spices :commerce:. Your choice.

save?

*don't group workers, one worker will lose a turn*

Yeah I know. I separate them when that happens and use that worker.
