[MONARCH] Failing Sucks Revenge A'la Ragnar!!

....preach....speech...

Sry for the unfriendly tone, but those are such hardcore errors that I had to react. I'm not sure what's normal for Monarch players and why the others don't write something like I did here, what stands above is ment to help, I'd suggest you start completely new. I'm willing to help if I notice that you're trying, what I saw was / is horrible.
Probably I don't belong to Monarch :mischief:! That's why I made the thread. Is the game totally screwed? I don't know what you want me to do.. Restart?

Robert, of course you belong to Monarch and higher. :) You've (yet again) made several n00bish plays in the first 60 turns, but it's ok. You can learn from it, if you try. You don't seem to be playing too fast (1h time used), but you just do lots of stuff you shouldn't be doing. You are not focusing on the right things (building up your empire quickly and efficiently!).

I suppose you've learned a lot of bad habits from somewhere and just can't get rid of them. Seraiel covered things pretty well. Now what I don't want you to do is to read the list and reply "Ok, I'll do it next time! :)" What you need to do is to try to understand why some play is good and some play is bad. Some of it is more simple than others.

You should begin from the simple things: Build enough workers! I've seen several saves from you where you have a single worker for many cities, leading to cities working unimproved tiles. Founding a city to work unimproved tiles is a waste. Workers can not only improve tiles, but also chop forests, paying back 5:hammers: per turn (1 turn for moving into the forest, 3 turns for chopping). Workers pay themselves back very quickly if you think about it.

What I think you should do is to restart this map and try to do things better. Try to make decisions yourself. There isn't much point learningwise to follow someone else's exact advice on how to play. The goal is not to play perfectly, just to make less mistakes. GL.

It's your game, do what you want. It's still winnable from here, you have good land, get a couple of more axes and Delhi should be yours. It seems to me that you've went into peace mode before the war is over and now you have to pay for it since it delays the end of the war.

There are some things that might be helpful. You should post a detailed pre-play-plan before you play including tech choices and reasoning for it, what you plan to do with the workers in detail and build choices for cities and reasoning for your choices. Also when tech trading and stuff comes available you should plan what teches you intend to trade and post your ideas before playing and not just play and wait for AI tech offers. You've played this quite fast, it's about 60 turns already. Maybe slow down?

I don't know if the game is screwed as I don't know Monarch, you're probably still in a position from where you can pull of a win in a lot of time, but your goal should be to really focus on your decisions and what you're doing and then simply roll over the map from one Civ to another and win in the smallest amount of time possible at which you're still able to feel good while playing the game!

Take that advice from sampsa and now don't tell yourself "ok, next time" but say "this is not acceptable, I'll start over" .

It's basically absolutely unimportant if you take a new map or this one, there are things that you have to see, like:

You moved your warrior to the pop1 border-city. Now you probably thought "that city is next to the war, it needs a defender" , but be honest, how good is a warrior as a defender anyhow? A warrior is only there for happpiness purposes, and the only city suffering from happiness issues is your capital! That city has plenty of Food, it grows fast, and that city gets whipped so gets Unhappiness, that city needs your Warrior. Asoka is just a stupid AI that's too dumb to do anything right, especially because this is Monarch, how should he even reach your other city faster than a unit that could get to it using a road?`

Then you have to learn that the people here are telling you that Food is the most important thing of all, but that is only true as long as there's a Granary! The Granary is the building that greatly makes Food more valuable, without a Granary, 1 :food: = 1 :hammers: , so you should focus :hammers: when you build a Granary somewhere! Perfect would be if the Food-bar were half-full when the Granary finished, but working your strongest tiles (from a value point of view) is what will get you far.

That also means that using different conversion rates if i. e. assuming a Granary, that that riverside Copper is at least as strong as the dry rice! Dry rice is only a 4 yield-tile, riverside grassland Copper is 7 yields! As a general formula for cities up to size 10 you can take 1 :food: = 2 :hammers: via "the whip" (assuming Granary again, without :food: = :hammers: ) .

And, what really is your absolute biggest problem and where you can improve the most: Workers are what fuel an empire! You declared war very early without having any form of developed empire and now you stand with 4 Axes in front of a city that takes about 10 to be conquered!
Like your empire currently looks it's gonna take aeons 'til you got 6 additional Axes, but now imagine you had just built 1 more Worker in your Capital (should go really fast with 3 strong tiles) , had waited for the DoW until you had found Asoka's Worker(s) and then stolen them with the DoW? The you now would have 3-4 Workers that could all out chop those plentyful forrests that are around your Capital, then the Wehat would already be improved and you'd have Granaries doubling the Food you get!
Like that, you could stomp out 10 Axes in 5 turns from your cities! You then would walk to Asoka, say thank you for the Workers and for him waiting for you to arrive with more force, kill him, next!

And never ever again say that I preach, what I did was take the time to actually look at your the save you posted, something nobody else did 'til then, and I made you aware of things that could get your game onto the next level!

You imho should be thankful that I take the time, or be grateful that you're such a nice person so that I'm willing to spend my free time on analyzing your mistakes, and you simply should look over that the fact that I said that your game was really terrible and instead simply try to improve because "improving makes fun" and I'm willing to accompany you on that way!

OK, I'll do that next tim...NO! What I meant to say, was that its not OK!! I think we should start over in ongoing NC!!

...Agreed.. I must start thinking about MP units!! It was clearly a waste of time to move the unit into Bombay.

Thanks for the info, Seraiel! I never saw "granary in numbers" before. Seems like I've underrated EXP- trait. I probably worked the newbie tiles because of I didn't check the cities in war turns. My all mind capacity goes to the war when my civ is on war which is place where to get better.

Hmm.. It's not acceptable to have all this stupid time waste mistakes. I shall start new game (NC Qin) and I try not to repeat the mistakes!! I start now.

Sorry about that, Sera! I didn't meant to be a meanie :(! I apologize for my childish behavior, its just typical me.. Ofc I'm thankful for your post :)! I'd be even more thankful if you would like to help me a little in NC Qin :)!
Thanks for all comments, people! I start playing NC Qin now, hope to see you there ;)!
