I started on a monarch game some days ago, and its damn hard. Not only do i have a large empier compared to outher civs I also have som citys on good spots so I get som good cash an science. One part thats anoying me, England have five citys, non of them exept her capital is in good spots for monny making. But again shes about to beat me to liberalism. I stil have a couple of turns left for education, she posibly have the same amount of turns left for liberalism. I know the civs have bonus in hamers and monney but how many bonuses do they have. prince is farily easy now but i never had this kind of trouble to keap up in the tech race. Monarch is damn hard.

I've decided to change may capitol to st. petersburgh, build the Forbiden tempel in mephis and found anouther SC in a spot I realy could us inside of my empier. is this how monarch games ushaly work or is I just a bad gamer.

I made that jump not long time a ago couple weeks. Now I have won 9 game of 11.

My first advice is to forget all habits what worked on Prince.

Second is science, on Monarch if you don't do anything AI is moss likely to run away from you. I suggest in your first games go all for the science, forget all habits, tactics or stratgies do anything you can possibly do think to win in science ie try to get only scientist out of your GP farm and use them for your advantage and eventually you will find that Monarch is not so hard after all.

Third, I don't know how did you play on Prince but I didn't tech-trade or make any friends so if you didn't either so making a good friend to trade tech can help you big time in science.

Fourth was for me food, and whipping. More food so you can whip early necessary building ie grannies, libs or markets to get the things going and if you are going to early war whip couple turn and you have double your units just in a few turns.

I hope that helps. :)

I agree but I just want to point out that tech leading isn't bad goal for beginners on Monarch and shouldn't be so hard to get if you think what kind of advantage it can give ie bribering.

Elizabeth is a very strong science AI because she has both financial and philosophical, and the AI likes to use Great People to lightbulb technologies. So yeah, she can be kind of hard to keep up with. If you want to stay ahead you need to get cottages and/or specialists going early on and really stick with them. Tech trading is also very important. At Monarch difficulty you'll have an impossible time staying ahead of the AIs in technology if you do not trade often, and wisely.

Absolutely, I think that leading in tech for a Monarch beginner should be considered a "win" in the sense that they are doing something right.

well in some sense I agree
that's what I did on one of my first emperor games.
I managed a good tech lead at the cost of power.
When I saw I had much better troops than my opponents I got warlike, and ouch.
4 cities against 20 cities isn't an easy win, even with a tech lead.
I just got overwhelmed:cry: .
But yeah, it was good learning.
