[R&F] Mongolia First Look

Yeah, if I'm playing as Mongolia, my dream is to have Scythia next door.

Side note: can you capture UU? Like, can I capture a Sumerian war cart? Or a Cossack? Because a Mongolian Cossack would be pretty sweet...
A Mamluk would be nice too.

Babylon looks like it would be Seoul's replacement but have Hattusa and Palenque been spotted so far?

There's actually no reason to refuse a delegation from Genghis, as a delegation automatically disappears if war breaks out, meaning he loses the access level again.

Printing is gonna be an important tech for Mongolia though.

Don't we lose visibility when we are at war with another Civ? I just noticed that I don't give a lot of attention to how visibility works, it's one of those things that just happen as I play and isn't really worth paying attention. I assume you don't lose visibility from the trading post and maybe from spies when you declare war.

Depends what you mean by good - Mongols look like a very, very strong Military nation.

As we've seen with Persia, speed is devastating. These guys have an insane speed boost coupled with an insane combat boost. Only limit is the unit comes a bit later.

If you find Mongolia on your map, peaceful player or not, take them out.

If Korea starts next to Mongolia, Korea loses (unless there's a closer target , of course).
Send a trade route to a foreign city: instant +3 strenght against them. Send a delegation or negotiate open borders: more strength against them (not sure how it exactly adds up.

Korea and Netherlands might be a T3 level civ on a Pangaea map. Probably T2 on a Island Plates and maybe T2 on a Fractal map.

Mongolia is on par with Sumeria and Scythia. Two civs that can ruin your day on a Deity/Immortal game and in multiplayer.

Like someone else pointed out earlier, if Mongolia can escort a settler with a horse unit, can you imagine how fast they can settle spots on the map? Beating out the AI to a good spot? Show of hands, how many times have you been beaten to a settle location by an AI, by a factor of a few turns? Build a builder unit faster in your capital or 2nd city, then let the horse fast move it to your newest city? Instead of the usual 7-9 turns of one and two tiles per turn?

Come on guys, this civ is nuts!

The Mongols as a civilization are so Much more appealing to me then Scythia. Beter not pick a flight with Genghis when keshiks are around. I like another spy option. Hopefully spying mechanic Will get beter in the future.

being able to keep a trading post in a city you're at war with seems very unreasonable.

They look stupidly overpowered to me. New candidate for strongest UB in the game? I think this is the first time we've seen a permanent movement promotion of this style.

I like that they've been distinguished from Scythia pretty significantly. The trade post mechanic is interesting, as is the diplo visibility, but I'm not sure they fit particularly well with the Mongol playstyle. Won't know for sure until we can try them.

I'm a bit disappointed that they have no R&F specific bonuses. Why were they left this long if they have no reason to be tied to this expansion?
