Moonraker

Thanks for the feedback. :)

well I wouldn't bother yourself with moving units around, deleting old ones etc. etc. it's just "useless" micro for your already tight schedule.
Units can be always upgraded and we can have so much money through 1-2 turns on 0% if WHEEORN shows up that I don't see really any issue with outdated units.

I suppose I was thinking of reducing unit maintenance, esp. in light of the possibility of Pacifism (which I think will be cheaper than running Organised Religion anyway if I read the advisers' information correctly). We are undoubtedly just micro-ing to get a marginally better finish date of 'like' maybe one whole turn.

All of this fluffing around with trying to pop certain types of Great People is quite prone to backfiring too, I admit, and could very well cost us a turn or two in lost productivity as opposed to saving us a turn or two with another Golden Age. It might make the finish slightly more interesting however.

I am really surprised FR didn't start the GA :), but I think it was somewhat "gray zone" regarding his TS... so feel free to start it right after checking the next GP.

Yes - I was thinking similarly that a Golden Age in a few turns could work well. I'm not sure if it actually matters too much as to when we get this underway, but I'd be inclined to hang off until we've either; got The Space Elevator up if we get another Great Engineer for faster builds on Casings and Thrusters, or to hurry along the 'natural' production of The Space Elevator after we burn Cai Lun toward it if Berlin's upcoming Great Person isn't a Great Engineer.

I wouldn't panic with health, from what I remember we were at max useful tiles/engineers in most cities even with unhealth (would have to check new save though), but genetics is of course "fine".

I'm not panicking about health either I must admit. At the moment I'm inclined to stick to 'Plan A' and chase Fusion before Genetics, but I felt that it was at least an option for consideration.

Big question is if we tech for space techs on max wealth+research and then build all parts in parallel (we have plenty of production centers) or if we start builds on parts right at the time we get the tech.
I usually do the latter, but iggy (great SS player) usually does the former...
I will leave this open for your judgement Cam.

Again, in my view it's the timing of The Space Elevator that will determine this. I'll keep on building wealth and building research if we have to get up The Space Elevator with natural production, and when its done switch over. I'm hoping Beijing isn't too far south on the globe to build it, as it has a good level of production. On the other hand, if we pop another Great Engineer, we'll rush it in Berlin (maybe?) for those whopping +2:gp: points and get straight on to SS parts. I'll keep a couple of our best cities in reserve for the big bits like the SS Engine and the last bits like the SS Life Support. I'll review the cities so I can get a building program together.

As far as I can tell, this guy is pretty much in the bag. Everything you pointed out is fine. From here on out, it *should* be plain sailing :D

Well, I hope so. Tokugawa's just too technologically backward to pose any real threat, and Catherine looks as though she's going to take on Roosevelt if anyone. A swap to Free Religion for us should get her back up to 'Pleased', and we could sign a defensive pact with her to seal the deal. I really can't see Roosevelt attacking us. As vranasm notes, we can buy an army/navy if we want.

As noted earlier, with its improved programming, if this was 'Beyond the Sword' I'd be mildly more wary of an AI response to our pending SS victory. We'll see.

Cam, I think you've gone pretty thoroughly thru it.
A couple of remarks:
I won't discard Cathy attacking us. As noted, she is not so unambiguously fixed on Roose. But I see you have covered this possibility, too. It just needs checking her WHEOHRN consistently.
I think a good part of the red faces are due to not switching to emancipation, so would leave thinking about whether and where to fit Genetics for the time after getting into Emancipation.
I don't understand in full your calculations about the GPs needed for a GA in your Plan B (IIRC, we need three now, and we have four, and we'd need four GPs for the next GA). But I think it's not crucial to go along any specific plan now, except where a war is involved. I'd be very disappointed, though, if a GA will be started before we have started to build the Elevator.
Last, Slavery could be used for whipping the Elevator, producing it somewhat faster in a somewhat unnatural way.:lol:

@FR
the concern is to get 4 unique types... we can expect GE from fusion (last free GP we get) and then we need 3 out of GS, GP, GM, GA. GS or GM we can pop on high probability with caste and I guess GA too when we're at it.

It's questionable though if we should even try for 4 GP's and last GA... it's completely possible we could spawn the 4th one at the time we launch :-D.

@Cam
I still don't see the issue with unit maintenance :), I admit I didn't check the save yet, but how high it could be? 40 gold in Pac? that is covered by 1 medium city running wealth :).

I think you could spare us some money, but you really want to play 4 hours instead of 2 for just this thing? come on... there is reason why even AZ automates workers and cities on Deity in his videos :), we're not in SGOTM here ;-).

From what you wrote I get you know how to approach, I just want to limit you the MM with my points, so you don't get bored... We could declare it win anyway at this point. The only problem could be some AI running culture, so maybe that's worth the check.

Btw not so far ago I won LHC on Immortal with SS where I got attacked by Sury 10 turns from landing the SS and had to tactical nuke my territory to survive :) we have big leeway here ;-).

Btw when we're at it...we could spam some submarines in some coastal city (not sure if drydock is in Warlords, but if it is, then drydock first) if you're so afraid of the other continent.

Opening Turn: 1800AD

I put a 'stop growth' on cities at their happy cap, and swapped to Temples in the two unhappy cities. I grouped the Golden Age Great People, and sent the Great Engineer toward Steel Jaw Guy. Rearranged Berlin with the hope of improving a Great Engineer pop in two turns (for Space Elevator). London got some Cavalry out of Berlin just to firm up its garrison.

Turn 1: 1802AD

Monte Carlo: SAM Infantry > Infantry
Warwick: Library > Wealth

There were a couple of Lumbermills that needed railroading, and the Aluminum mine near Beijing, but generally the terrain improvements were well addressed. Le Chiffre began conversion of its Windmills back to Mines.

Tokugawa and Catherine sign a defensive pact.

Turn 2: 1804AD

Robotics > Satellites

We aim for a Great Engineer out of Berlin to help hurry the Space Elevator for us, and we get ...

Spoiler :

... which puts us on the pathway to encouraging a second end-game Golden Age. As such we swap civics and rearrange Hamburg and Berlin:

Spoiler :

Turn 3: 1806AD

Tokugawa voluntarily vassalises to Catherine.

Turn 4: 1808AD

Satellites > Fibre Optics

Steel Jaw Guy makes a start on The Space Elevator with some hurry assistance of 950:hammers:;

Spoiler :

Turn 5: 1810AD

:coffee:

Turn 6: 1812AD

Fibre Optics > Fission

Hamburg pops its Great Person, where we placed a huge emphasis on Merchant and Priest specialists, and we get ...

Spoiler :

The arrival of this Great Engineer throws out the plan of getting four different Great People types in time by the game's end (we were already counting on a Great Engineer from Fusion) for that last Golden Age, and he heads south to aid with The Space Elevator (which is momentarily paused). Hamburg and Berlin both get 'rearranged' back to more traditional citizen allocations.

Turn 7: 1814AD

We start off with a visit;

Spoiler :

I opt not to taunt her at this late stage, and concede to the demand.

We hurry along The Space Elevator and swap into new civics, that extends to us the opportunity to sign a Defensive Pact with Russia and with America ... I choose one;

Spoiler :

Turn 8: 1816AD

Fission > Fusion

We get up The Space Elevator, kick off the Golden Age, and start working on the spaceship;

Spoiler :
Please excuse weird screenshot;

Turn 9: 1918AD

Make a deal to pass the time;

Spoiler :

Turn 10: 1820AD

Fusion > Genetics or Ecology ?

Catherine goes into WHEOOHRN mode.

Steel Jaw Guy is a bit banked up, with the SS Stasis Chamber to follow the completion of the SS Docking Bay. Beijing can work away at the SS Engine, while Le Chiffre could undertake the SS Life Support. The whole thing should be done in 'around' nine-ten turns. The recent swap into Emancipation probably means that we've got some more growth potential in some cities, but I doubt it will impact on the final date.

looks good... genetics then eco, the Chamber is 1200 life support is 1k

woops will finish... I don't feel we need too deep of a plan now ;-)

vranasm,

I'm slightly disappointed that the :gp:s didn't work out as hoped, and I wasn't expecting our tech' rate to be so much quicker than the rate that key cities could produce their spaceship parts. If I played it again knowing this rather than trying to calculate with non-Golden Age figures, the Docking Bay would have gone into Le Chiffre as soon as we had Robotics so that the Stasis Chamber could be built in Steel Jaw Guy sooner. There might be an opportunity to micro Steel Jaw Guy to the point where we knock a turn off its builds (i.e. merge the two free Great People into the city, chop the Forest and replace it with a Workshop, put Workshops on most of its tiles) - there are a stack of Workers looking for jobs, so reworking Steel Jaw Guy's BFC would seem to be one of the better options. Similarly, Beijing's BFC can be tweaked with Workshops on that Village and the Farm, but I think that the wait will be on the Stasis Chamber in Steel Jaw Guy anyway.

Best of luck woopdeedoo! :)

So, a success story is written:

T1:
Prague: SS Casing>Wealth
Guangzhou: SS Casing>Wealth
Le Chiffre: SS Casing>Wealth

T2:
Genetics in, swithc tech to Ecology. Shangai finished SS Casing and was switched to Wealth. Le Chiffre interrupt Wealth and start SS Stasis Chamber.
Many cities were switched from Wealth to Research to try and get Ecology in 1 turn. Couldn't do it.

T3:
SS Casing, SS Thruster, SS Cockpit and another SS Thruster finished, all cities on Wealth.

T4:
Ecology in, switch to Medicine. SJG finishes SS Docking Bay and starts on SS Life Support. Kananga also finishs SS Thrusters>Research.

T5:
Medicine in, switch to Mass Media.

T6:
Catherine makes a demand:

She is stronger so I decide OK. The GA finishes and we only need Engine (2t), Life Support (1t) and Stasis Chamber (2t).

After Turn 7 I hit the enter button:

We did pretty good. I have one or two more picture to upload but my Internet is pretty bad right now so I will do that and the save shortly!

[EDIT] Added [/EDIT]

:clap:

Well done team ... and well done woop' on getting the whole thing done so quickly, I was expecting one SS part to lag behind the rest. :)
