Please explain to me how Persia, Germany, Rome, Egypt get to build Mech Infantry without rubber? There is no rubber in their territories. Each time I go to the diplo/trade screen I get the "We have 6 surplus rubber resources. The (Persians, Germans, Romans, Egyptians) would love to have some. Why don't we see what they will offer?" Yet all the while they are building mech infantry. Yes I traded world maps and checked terrain under the cities. I have spies everywhere.

According to the lying Civpedia, Mech Infantry requires rubber and oil. What gives?

off topic -- ever notice that modern Cleopatra has a 5 o'clock shadow? Must be that testosterone she takes to keep her sex drive alive.

And don't you love Xerses' Rasputin look?

i havnt evr noticed that but ill have a look next time

off topic-- yeh and have you noticed that in the industrial ages she has a hat like little bo peep

Is there any other civs in the game? I have the problem where I cut a civ off from it's own stuff, but then they go and get the resources through trade! Check that one in your game.

If they used t be getting rubber from somewhere, and they were once producing thewm, they may be able to continue biulkding them without the resources. The human player can do this, why cant the AIs?

I always thought that as long as they were already in production you could finish them, but couldn't build any more on subsequent turns. The only civ they could get the rubber from is Greece, and even they only have one source.

Myartar, great quote. It's scary. I fear this is happening here.

That happend to me once. I was at war with babylon and i pop rushed some swordsmen. The next turn my iron disappeared yet my swordsmen were still built on the same turn.

Mech infantry are the base line defender unit. If the AI builds a new city, they get them. If they acquire a city thru culture flip, they get them. If they draft a citizen, they get them.

Except I actually did deprive Persia of rubber and they went back to regular infantry. Go figure.

Trinity, can you continue to play until the 1st AI mech infantry gets built? If they then start to produce another one without rubber there is something wrong. If that happens can you save the game on the turn before they complete it and post the saved game?

That explains how they got the mech infantry. They don't have a lot of them.

Wait a minute. If the AI builds a new city they get a free unit? That's news to me. Are you sure? This is not happening in my games. You are probably seeing the AI rush a defender after it builds the city, or moves in a unit that was already built in another city. You could post a saved game but that would not show whether the AI rushed a unit after it built the city. If you have a very simple case with an AI civ with 2 cities we could look at how much gold the AI had before and after.

I agree that they get a unit on a culture flip just like the human player, but in such a case I thought they would need rubber to get mech infantry.

First of all I am glad there are other people out there who stay up all night doing this, second of all, sumthinelse, check around but I am certain that at regent level or higher the AI just gets defenders as soon as they build cities. The AI cheats, believe it. And ever notice how they can draft out of every city every turn? Oh, yes...

No, I just checked. I watched an AI civ build a city on deity level. The only defender is the spearman that they already had. If you mean that when they build a city a units appears out of thin air, I respectfully disagree.

Now it is true that when they build their first city on monarch and above they get the bonus that is defined in the .bic file rules. On deity that is 15 units total. But you can edit the .bic file so that they get zero bonus units on any difficulty level. And on the 2nd, 3rd, and every other city the build after that they get no unit bonus.

Also they can produce a defender by paying gold or pop rushing if they take one of the human's cities, or it culture flips to the AI, or they build a new city, and the defender appears before the human can move , so that is not an even playing field. The reason for this is that all the production of units happens after the AI moves. I don't know why they designed the game that way.

Also, as you said, it is true that they get a defender when a city flips to them, but the human also gets a defender when a city flips to him, so that works the same.

Can't the human draft the same as the AI?

I think how they got those Mech Infantry was they had a deal with America for Rubber, and already had them in production. I took 3 rubber resources so they no longer have them. They have to deal with me for them and I won't sell, except for enough gpt to bankrupt them. Ergo, they were able to make about a half dozen mech infantry each.

Glad to hear that Trinity. I have seen the AI rush military units with gold. If they start producing new ones without resources post a saved game and we'll look at it.
