Moscatnt. Unit creation and previews

I'm thinking about adding more frames to victory (the zombie need to eat more fresh flesh), the normal victory is 15 frames long, I think that longer animations aren't a problem, is that right?

I don't think that you will have problems with a longer victory animation. But, I would caution against making the other animations longer than fifteen frames, especially the fortify and attack animations. Otherwise, the timing between the two fighting units will be off.

I didn't think about that, thank goodness I only did it at victory and run. Thanks for the advice.

"How do you do good sir"

Crap, man! What kind of super computer do you have that can render stuff that fast!

It takes me, on average, about 10 hours of solid rendering (not counting any time spent animating a unit) just to make 1 unit.

Either (a) I have a really sucky computer (b) I'm making my models too detailed, or (c) I'm sucky animator (most likely).

Well, I'm using a laptop, but it's a 64 bits, so it's fast:D . My models are low detailed, I prefer to use textures better than props, my RL work is illustrator so I'm skillfull at drawing (for example, the zombie has only 7 props: Helmet, pants, shoes, gun, ammo, bag and flash). I got all the renders (108 frames for each direction, in less than three hours).
I haven't rendered all the directions yet, only SE for the preview.

Ah, that explains it..... I could also just do 1 direction each for preview in no time flat. I've got a better computer than you do (P4 2GHz desktop with GeForce-4 MMX 64MB video card, 768 MB DDR RAM), and it still takes forever to render.... If I had to use my laptop, like I did when I was in the Navy, I'd be lucky to finish a unit in time to submit for the Monthly Unit Competition.

The Mithra Sniper, which I'm rendering the last animation for right now (doing the NW, got the W to do after that, and I'm done), has the base figure + 7 conforming figures + 6 props, all of which, with the exception of the gun and scope, are very detailed, studio grade models that have a gazillion polygons each....

No wonder I can render something like the Hilda Garde III in Bryce in half the time (the HG III still had less polygons and less complicated textures)

The gun-totin' Zombie looks great. But I wonder if he should gnaw on the leg with his other hand, so that the gun stays in place?

You're totally right, this units is a simple variation from the original zombie and I've only done the absolutely necessary changes to get a working unit. I know this is not a brilliant conversion only a fast one... I plan to do a lot of units :(
