Most characteristic roman metropolitan building?

Probably a hippodrome? The Colloseum is too unique to be in all metropoleis i guess...

I will be modelling the final roman building this month, for my ancient roman city set.
 
Walls I presume.
 
I'd go with amphitheaters also. Forums you could find even in small cities. Likewise with basilicas and baths.

Aqueducts might be a good alternative, the smaller cities often didn't need those or had small ones.

Personally I think ghe most characteristic building of any society is usually going to be the most banal, so in the Roman context that would be either a tenement or a villa.
 
Go with the public baths.

Obviously i would only model a part of it, since in this scale modelling the whole thing would be pointless.
