Hi. After my civ5 depression I decided it was time to try the total war series, so i picked the Rome gold bundle. Ive been enjoying the game, although i think it is hasnt got the replayability of Civ games. Campaign is not at the same level of Civ, and the battles are starting to get repetitive.

Anyway, i wanted to share this funny moment I had yesterday. It was quite big battle, you could smell the tension in the field. I thoughtfully put all my pieces, and then I was ready to start the battle. Seconds after I hit start, their catapults start firing. And just in that moment, I think it was the second shot, a stone falls just at my general head. How lucky was that?? Just thinking in a general like Napoleon dying in such a tragic way...

I just hope that catapult guy got his well deserved promotion...

Something similar happened to me a few years ago when playing medieval 2, general came riding out of his castle and cannon ball KO'd him just as he came into view, i think its because the cannons were aiming at the portcullis and he came out before it was blown down hehe.

You just got owned! ^^

Ah, the classic moments. The trick is to do that to your opponent! I had a moment like Clement's in my current M2TW game, only it was my enemy who got owned. Enough cannons firing at the portcullis at once, and the guys behind it are toast!

On the plus side, at least it wasn't your own catapult. I lost a battle in my M2TW game because my catapult fired poorly and its flaming ammo, of course, landed right in the middle of my dismounted Knights, sending them into panicked disarray, and all my other troops panicked when the Knights did. If it weren't for my own guys, I'm pretty sure I would have won the battle. Even so, better than the catapults killing the King or something like that.

Another game this happens in is Age of Empires II. I've had it happen enough that I am quite cautious about building Mangonels or Onagers now and only do so if there's a good reason to.

Meh. It is worse in For King or Country (an English Civil War mod) where you can get some very accurate cannons.
