Of the bands on the list, I only really like the Stones(yes - it's true!), the Beatles, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the Who. Most of the others are mightily overrated, IMO.

As for Nirvana, well, I think Cobain was a talented singer and guitarist, but their songs weren't all that great. Most of them sound the same.

But THE single most overrated? The Eagles have to be right up there. I'd say the Doors, but really just Jim Morrison is overrated. The rest were excellent musicians.

Ozzy Osbourne flat out isn't talented, but a cool personality.

KISS should be mentioned. They suck, yet people love them.

Most underrated? Probably Creedence. Fogerty was amazing.

Although I do not like all of these groups, I think none of them are overrated. They all contributed something to world of music that was unique and valuable. I always hold a special place in my heart for Nirvana. I guess it might be hard for those of you, who were'nt teenagers in the early 1990s, to understand what the music meant to us. I never particularly liked Led Zepplin, but I repsect the music and appreciate the fact that the majority of bands the followed were influenced, directly or indirectly, by them. There are a lot of personalities in these groups that we may not particularly admire or indentify with, but we must all realize that music goes beyond any one man.

Fogerty's music was simple, unsophisticated, not highly produced. Qualities not likely to attract critical acclaim. Except for the Ramones, I guess, but their music came from a more urban base which the critics do tend to like.

Makes sense. In CCR days, Fogerty could sing a phone book and make it good.

I was a teenager in the 90's. Nirvana just couldn't hold a candle to the Old Man's records! :D

I can't vote in this poll. It doesn't include Britney Spears and her clones.

Though, I think AC/DC was probably the most overrated band of all timel

For me, its got to be the Rolling Stones. They are a bunch of old timers who don't want to get put into an Old Folks home, so they keep putting on these awful concerts ;) I've heard quite alot of their music, and in my opinion its all Crap.
Whereas the Beatles are Good :)

eyrei: Britney is not Rock. (Though her version of "Satisfaction" is surprisingly unknown to most.)

Gainy bo: Up until some album, the Rolling Stones made good music. Just like Metallica, who stopped having influence on others after the Black Album.

I voted for Aerosmith, since I don't like any of their songs very much (perhaps with the exception of "Pink") and don't know how they got so famous. Probably they are good live performers. The same goes for Guns'N'Roses, some of their songs are quite good, but nothing extraordinary.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are also quite overrated. Admittedly "Californication" was an outstanding album, and most of the songs on it are extremely good, but the rest of what they did ...

Motorhead is quite underrated.

Led Zeppelin is ridiculously overrated IMHO. I don't even like their so-called masterpieces, like Stairway to Heaven. Some other bands on the list are also way overrated, like the Doors or Aerosmith. The beatles were just extremely brilliant, so no way they're overrated!

Of the ones in the poll, definetely U2. The Edge sucks at the guitar, he simply can't play. I wouldn't even consider them to be a rock band, they are lame pop.

Hey, that's not true! Angus Young rocks!(used to rock, he's finished now)

Led Zeppelin!!! They're the best, nobody can really compare to the power that they had,I mean on stage, they were just magic, and their music reflects that magic

Eh, the question was "What's the most overrated rock band of all time?"

Definitely Guns and Roses. They went from putting out one of the best modern rock albums(Appetite for Destruction) to completely collapsing due to Axl Rose's bloated ego.

"Chinese Democracy" is something like 10 years in the making, and still not out yet.

I don't know about Axel Rose's ego or anything, but when it comes to the music - the Gunners make good-sounding music.

So does most of the bands in the list, except one.

Black Sabbath. I think that Ozzy is one of the worst singers that the music history has ever seen. Other than that the songs might be okay - but Ozzy's singing just ruins it all.

This list is silly. There is not a grossly overated band on it. The really overated bands are the ones that are wildly popular and then forgotten, because the music isnt good enough without the hype. Groups like Journey, NXS, and any of dozens of teenybopper idols. Does any one remember the Bay City Rollers?

J

Yeah, I have to agree. With the exception of GnR, you really can't say any of those bands are overrated. All of those bands, whether you personally like them or not, were top-notch, talented groups. And the list seems skewed to hard-rock bands as well.

People like Oasis or Madonna are not even in the same ballpark as many of those bands.

What can I say, I'm a hard rock fan.

Some that I missed: Metallica, Oasis, etc. etc.

Of course they're all good bands. What's your point? That's why I put them there! I wanted to know out of all the best which one do you think isn't quite as good as they're made out to be.

Thems' fightin' words, ya runt! ;)

The oldness makes them cool. Q: How cool is Keith Richards? A: Very.

I think GWAR is underrated
