moving gotm to strategy section

Bump. :bump:

How is it no one responded to this? edit, because it is buried below all the stickied Did anyone see it?
seems worth discussing

I am open to discussion and debate, but my opinion is no.

If my opinion is of any use I would say at the moment let the forum stay where it is.

If anything we can put a pool on the strategy forum to see how many people that are there that do not know of the GOTM.

I just believe most people that look at the civfanatics forums know about the GOTM and there is no reason to try to increase exposure. If anything we could put ads on other civ forums.

Is a hyperlink from Strategy forum enough?

Why is that question raised here?

Why is the GOTM 98 thread not stuck?

Wrong thread for that question. But to answer anyway: Sticking threads requires elevated permissions and so can only be done by a few people. Because of that, game threads often start unstuck for a few hours until someone with the appropriate permissions is available to stick them. The GOTM 98 thread is now stuck.

I would suggest some sort of bridge be put with Strategy & Tips at least (announcements/updates?).

I ended up here because I quite randomly followed someone's signature to be honest (lymond I think?)... and I'm having great fun, it would be a pity if there are S&T players out there that don't know xOTMs games exist.

Just my 2 cent. :mischief:

I have no idea what you are talking about :mischief:

Well, I mentioned many times to GOTM and HOF staff to advertise the games over in S&T and General even, but despite a couple to times, they seem adamantly opposed to it. I think it is a great idea and should always be done. It certainly does no harm and they can simply post over a canned statement with an included link.

And honestly, it seems the turnout for GOTMs has been rather good of late, certainly not at its peak maybe, bu still going strong. There's always newer and older players even popping up that never new or never will know about GOTMs unless they are given more visibility. Linking S&T and GOTM directly though seems logistically bad, but posting stickies or announcements there would work nicely.

I just don't know how many people bother to regularly view the CFC home page.

I'm not aware of any opposition amongst GOTM staff to advertising the GOTMs more widely. Personally I'd love to see more people becoming aware of the GOTMs - I'm sure there are many people who would enjoy playing Game of the Months but who are unaware of the existence of the competition, and I'm open to any ideas to overcome that. (It seems your signature is quite useful here ;) Welcome - pomthom!)

I think the issue with advertising the games more widely on the forums is that we are just one small part of the forums - we don't control civfanatics, we simply piggy-back on the wider website. And any screen estate on the forums given over specifically to promoting GOTMs (or HOF for that matter) is screen estate that can't be used for something else. As far as wider civfanatics is concerned, we are from one point of view simply one of many sub-forums (albeit one that has considerable unique infrastructure and software to run the games). It's not obvious to me how you could justify to the people in charge of civfanatics why our subforum should - in effect - get special treatment as far as advertising is concerned.

That should not preclude you from posting announcement threads in S&T and General on a regular basis. Regular GOTMers and HOFers can post stuff in those threads as well to bump it up and promote it for a bit.

Honestly, a hyperlink will do the job sufficiently. No need to make the makers work a lot (except Deckhand becoz he's new and still lust of enereji). shulec is the one maintaining HoF and pulled some advertisements in S&Tips and sadly, the advertisements got the least views of ALL threads.

I suspect that'll be the same for xOTM, but much less dramatic.

And why the promotions? Isn't xOTM still ebullient? I saw the last results and it seemed to be much active by now.

But any views are still potential candidates and activity on the boards can fluctuate considerably on certain days. I've been rather inactive for some time. I think if some of us can post in those threads for a few days to keep them bumped and add messages to encourage new players it will help.

Again, there's certainly no harm in it. Even getting 1 new player from one of those posts each time is better than that player never having known about it. And I may be wrong, but it should not be to laborious to post a single thread each much that is pretty much a copy/paste affair.
