MP8 - A Roman Tradition

We are. It's that or construction (hmm... Great Wall anyone?!). However we haven't started on it. Cash isn't really a problem right now.

Well, in light of Eldar's military campaign through the heart of England, our forward forces look a little gassed. I might not have the same success :(

Some cities that were set to workers would have been stalled waiting for growth a number of turns; I switch those over to catapults.

Change research over to Construction. :lol: I see why it was on Philosophy; we have 4-turn research at 20% science! At 50% Construction is due in 4. It looks like we can pick Construction and Currency in the next 8 turns and then just cash rush everything we want.

IBT-
Rome builds an Ancient Cav
Rome: Legion->Legion

1) 130BC
Small stack rounded up to take on Birmingham
Cash rush Barracks in Berlin and Pisae.

IBT-
Berlin: Barracks->Legion
Veii: Legion->Legion
Antium: Galley->Legion
Pisae: Barracks->Legion

Resistance in Newcastle is over.
India builds Mausoleum of Mausollos in Dehli.

2) 110BC
Legion kills spear in Birmingham and promotes, but at least two more are present.
Elite archer kills an English archer, and...

MP8_110BC_Leader.jpg

I really like the sound of a Legion army. So does Trajan and he heads toward Hastings to share his grand idea.

IBT-
Rome: Legion->Legion
Neapolis: Legion->Legion

3) 90BC
Our legion attacks Birmingham again, killing a spear. Cats redline the last spear and our elite archer flawlessly loses.
Mostly new troops moving up to the front line.

IBT-
Construction in. Currency due up next, and then the scientists get shot... er, fired. :mischief:

Massive cultural expansions come in from ToA.

Cumae: Settler->Settler
Pompeii: Legion->Legion
Ravenna: Barracks->Legion

4) 70BC
Cats bomb the spear again, our Elite* archer attacks, and we capture Birmingham.

Hispalis is founded.

Short rush Legions in Pisae, saving 3 turns.
Rush a courthouse in Berlin.

IBT-
Berlin: Courthouse->Legion. Berlin can now do 3 turn Legions; before it was 5 I think.
3 other towns produce legions.

5) 50BC
First legion makes its way into the legion army. The others should follow next turn.

IBT-
AC produced in Rome
1 Legion built

6) 30BC
Army fully loaded and heading north.

IBT-
2 Legions made
Resistance in London is over.
Mayans drop off a sword by Pisae.

7) 10BC
India is sending warriors at us... ? :lol:

Warwick is taken; 1 legion lost, and an archer promotes.
Mayan sword is a tough nut; he takes down a Legion before dying.

IBT-
Those are tough Indian warriors; one kills our AC
We learn Currency; science is officially dead.
Dang, India has about half a dozen warriors by Warwick.

8) 10AD
Switch Rome to a marketplace.

IBT-
Two dead Indian warriors.
I get the plebs to mow my lawn.

9) 30AD
There go the remaining warriors.
Settle Viroconium. That's the last of Mathias' western cities.

Shortrush legions in towns making at least 10 spt.

IBT-
Lots of legions.

10) 50AD
A little treat for the next player:

MP8_50AD_Leader2.jpg

The tart is that our archer redlined the spear, then died and the town still stands.

Our army kills two spears in Lagertero.
I goofed on advancing my troops upon the other Mayan town; they moved across the river this turn so we don't have to attack across the river.

Hadrian is still left unmoved for the next player.
Those English towns just wouldn't die easily. I was really counting on a 5hp archer to take out a 2hp spear, but i guess not. Anyway, I'd scrounge up some MPs from local English towns. Everybody is starved down to 1 and away from the front lines, so that shouldn't be a bad thing.

The roading is coming along. Hastings is almost connected.

I put some markets up in our core towns. Figure the extra cash will be good for rushing troops. Might want a courthouse in Pompeii, too.

- I stopped MMing as this game is very much already won.
- I didn't cash-rush during the GA because of production bonus, so feel free to cash rush now.
- start razing cities before we go over the domination limit.

250 AD
Rush some units

260 AD
Tikal (Mayan) razed, get 4 slaves
IT: We lose Lagartero.

300 AD
Lazapa (Mayan) razed

330 AD
Lagatero (Indian) razed
Chichen Itza (Mayan) finally razed, The Great Library destroyed, get 5 slaves, including 1 captured worker. I killed at least 4 pikes, 3 javs, and 2 spearman in total.

That's about it. Working on getting roads out through the marsh so our catapults can go to India. There is at least one pike in Quirigua. Palenque's best defender, to my surprise, is a regular spearman. Russian galley near Canterbury has not unloaded, nor has Mayan galley near Yaxchilan.

I rushed a couple of courthouses in core cities to get 10spt, and a few barracks in former Mayan cities so we could rush Legionaries closer to the front.

Darn, I clearly got my Incantation To The RNG very, very, wrong.

Remember that Army advancing on the Mayans...? Ah. It had 13/14 hit points when it attacked Palenque; it destroyed the defending Regular spear, but finished off with just 1 hit point :gripe: . I covered it with a Legion, which got promptly gobbled up. Along with the big ol' stack-o-catapults. Palenque has steadfastly refused to die, our Legions have been defending themselves like wet socks, and in general everything has stunk.

At least the Road to India has been completed, and a couple of Indian cities have fallen. Maya has Longbows now as well. Meh.

I've had pRNG luck like that lately, eldar. Makes you want to stop playing at times. Nothing much you can do but roll with it.

Got it and I'll get to it tomorrow, but maybe tonight.

Over the years 450AD-550AD the Roman empire imposed the inevitable on the distant foreign nations of the Indians and the Mayans. The Mayans offered pockets of resistance with their state-of-the-art Longbowmen, and even a rare glimpse at an Medeival Infantry, but these technological improvements were no match for the training or even the sheer number of Roman Legions.

Both Maya and India watched their capitals burn in the year 510AD. Maya still offered some resistance; their mountainous terrain snaked with rivers have slowed the Roman advance, but the ultimate outcome is not even a matter of "when" but rather a counting of days left of the Mayan calendars. Roman troops now stand poised to take the Mayan towns of Quirigua and St. Petersburg. Aiding the Roman advance came the discovery of stolen catapults in the ruins of Palenque, and now have them amassed to destroy the remaining Mayan towns.

Russia has not been spared, either. The outlying town of Yakutsk burned in 530 and Yekaterininburg is under seige from Roman legions. But their isolated location has spared them the most heinous of Roman conquerors.

The Indians were not nearly so lucky. After their capital fell, it's central location and lack of culture from nearby towns let the roman armies branch out to each town quickly. Only local garrisons were left to defy the roman soldiers and their quick demise caught nobody by surprise. After Dehli's fall in 510AD Roman soldiers took Jaipur in 520, Bombay and Bangalore in 530, and Bengal in 540. Finally, in 550AD roman soldiers bombarded and walked into the town of Lahore into the south while the Roman army single-handedly annhilated the last Indian town of Karachi in the north. Their civiliation is only remembered in the burned rubble of towns that once remained and the people that now slave away at the Roman civil works.

Most notable of those civil works was the construction of the Calakmul Iron By-pass. Located east of Calakmul, this by-pass ensures the speedy delivery of troops to their final destination, whether in victory or upon the Elysium Fields. On schedule for completion in 560AD, the Lugdunum speedway promises to move armies from the outskirts of Rome in the south to the borders of Copán in the noth without the delays of fording the many great rivers that run through the Roman empire.

Locally, the Roman culture surpasses anything the remaining world has to offer. In 540AD the cultural boundaries of Rome expanded again in recognition of the great temples in core Roman towns. Roman citizens are euphoric in their culture and many exotic luxuries. Incense from India has just arrived for the first time in Rome and Gems from the conquered Mayan lands promise their arrival within the decade.

Indeed, it is a great day for Rome. Victory is within sight! Soon the world will march in line with Rome's demands!

Score was 6709 - pretty good. Actually, it's third place on my C3C Hall of Fame now. :)

I think we all did a good job in everything, planning and executing. Emperor may be beatable with this variant. Thanks for playing everyone. I'll leave these saves up for a couple days.
