MP8 - A Roman Tradition

We could have a settler out of Rome in 5 turns, but that would leave Rome at size 1 for 5 turns. Not sure if it's worth it, as we may not be able to defend against a trio of German archers.

Archer, then settler? While that's happening, we could have our workers roading up to the iron.

I'm going to drop off the radar for a day or two, but I should be back sunday. I've gotta move back to Kentucky.

Little to report - dealt with a couple of German archers for the cost of a warrior. Got another settler out - see the picture. Horses are close by too, nice.

Research is currently Maths at the max maintainable rate.

Pink first (obviously), then choice of blue or yellow.

How about next settler settle on the Iron to get Legions going. The next settler after that, settles 1NW of the cow in the NE. That will give lots of food and we can set up a settler factory there far away from the war front.

Got it. Will probably try to squeeze this in late tonight as I will be gone all day tomorrow. Should I let Veii finish its walls (since we're pushing forward to a town on the iron) or switch them over to an archer or even settler?

Not much to report here. Killed a couple German archers and settled the pink dot. We got an elite promotion, too. Veii has a settler in the works and I held off on Rome making another settler because I didn't like it going beneath 5spt.

Didn't attack with the three archers on the mountain. Didn't think I was supposed to. Two more archers and a spear are on the way; however, a German archer is out there and needs to be dealt with.

Not all units have been moved, as instead of fortifying I left the unmoved units active in case Meteor has a grander design.

Veii builds settler.
Antium builds worker. We're pretty short of workers.

- I think it's best to try to expand fast now, get 7-10 cities mass-producing Legions.
- the settler hasn't moved yet...where should he go? I think settling on the Iron is pretty good. Considering our lack of workers and the time needed to road the Iron. There is such great terrain in the former German lands - lots of food bonuses.

- I like this spot for our next city.

Obviously we need the iron, and even though the city would get off to a slow start, I think we should settle on it next. After that, a city on the hill between the cattle and the horses would have immediate access to 3 food bonuses. Such a city would probably be too corrupt to be an effective settler/worker factory as long as we are in despotism, and I don't really want to push west, but the faster growth in that area is hard to resist.

Expansion in the east is much safer, and it would be nice to get those silks soon.

It's always a good feeling to push the Germans off the map. :) Nice work Meteor.

I think we should emphasize growth over the iron right now. Settle the blue dot and the German food bonus'. In the meantime build barracks and warriors and start stock-piling cash for when we get the iron online. We really don't need to rush through much more reasearch; I assume Monarchy is our next goal for the beaker burners. It'd be really nice to have some developed land before the next civ shows up.

I like Mathias dotmap for the East side of the land. Also I still think we should settle Iron so cities have something nice to build (Legions) between workers and settlers.

However, be have 4 or so archers on the frontlines defending us. There is no need to use a Legion to launch a GA yet.

I probably won't be able to play until tomorrow sometime (probably not until late). If Math or anybody else wants to switch or if you want to skip me, by all means go ahead. My trip did not go as smoothly as I'd hoped.

I can play tomorrow evening (c. 6pm eastern)
Settle the iron next, but do we want to build any cities near the food bonuses in the west, or build only in the east for now?
What are our research goals? Are we going straight for Monarchy, or do we want to get Horseback Riding first?

I'd go for Monarchy. I rather have a steady stream of Legions/catapults and probably not build any horses. If you get a chance, start a SoZ build/prebuild.

I got it then. Probably a settler out of Rome, then SoZ. I'll delay growth in Rome to get the benefit of granary sooner, saving 4 turns on growth to size 5.

Settler has not moved, should build here.

I decided not to build on the iron yet. It may not be the best location:

Not much to report. No rival has wandered too close yet. We're still short on workers. Archer wandering in tundra probably won't find anything, but had nothing else to do. Both spearmen needed as MP in Rome at size 5 to keep lux at 0%. Antium could build another worker instead of archer.

I like Mathias' recent dotmap for the West and the one he made in post#50 for the East. Once we get cities down, massive Legion production begins/continues.
