MSMD: How to Create a Mod (video demo)

Hey Kael, the 1st vid helped a lot, I made a generic mod, but when I tried to make a new civ and go in the assets folder and then civilizations the folder was blank! All of the folders are blank, but Civ works fine! I am using vista, does it matter?

I have vista to and it works fine.

Military Man when I go through C> Program Files> Firaxis Games it only has one folder< Civilization 4> when i click on that it takes me 2 <mods>!!! I need help!!!

Open it and there should be a BTS folder. Click on that and then click on mods in that folder.

Thanks for the tutorials, I appreciate the work.

I'm having a problem though, when I attempt to save my edited XML file I'm getting this error:

Cannot Create the C:/Program Files/Fixaris Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword/MODS/FFTR/Assets/XML/Civilizations/CIVLeaderHeadInfos.xml file.

Make sure the path and file name are correct.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to rectify this? I'm using Vista if it's relevant.

As a general thought, it's highly doubtful Vista would be a relevant problem for anyone just getting started in modding.

Is there anymore information on the error report? and what program are you using to edit the file?

This may sound silly, Sync but it s/b CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml
(even though you said the file name is correct)

Of course not. Civ4 was designed to be moddable from the very beginning. From what I can see of Kael's movies (I haven't watched all of them), anything here can be reproduced for vanilla or warlord's.

Anyone know of a good image program that can edit and then save files in .dds? I tried GIMP but I couldn't get the dds plugin to work.

EDIT: Nevermind, I got GIMP to work!!

When you first ran your mod, .ini files were automatically loaded into your mod folder... mine didn't do that. Does anyone know whats up?

I don't remember that happening for me. I usually copy mine from some random Warlord mod that doesn't do anything too fancy.

Copy? Wha..? How do you do that? Isn't it just supposed to do it automatically when you load the mod, like the first clip showed?

I have windows vista and "firaxis games"is not in my program files, or anything even close to it. I can go to
my documents/my games/ civ4 or BTS
and get to "MODS" but here the folder is empty. I know your tutorial is for the ultra beginner but it seems it is farther ahead then I am. Please help me get to the beginning of the tutorial.

In the folder "mods" you must create an new folder with the name do you want for your mod. The stream shows you every thing do you must now. ;)

If you have a BTS shortcut on the desktop, you can right-click on that and click on properties. Take note of what is said in the "target" bit, and follow that path. This will work if you go into the start menu too.

"C:\Users\Jimmy\AppData\Roaming\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe"

Thanks a million moopoo! Wonder how it ended up here? should I reinstall vanilla and BTS to the proper folder?

EDIT: I opened the files above and when I get to "C:\Users\Jimmy\" there is no file called "AppData".

OK I reinstalled and made sure to put them in the program files. Did the 1st tutorial and everything went good except I couldn't create a shortcut. When I click "new" in the empty "ColbertNation" mod file it only gives me the "folder" option and not all of the options it gives in the tutorial. I have vista so I don't know if I need to do something different to create the shortcut. Also after loading the mod there were no folders automatically put in the "ColbertNation" mod folder like in the tutorial. Is this a biggy?
