MSMD: How to Create a Mod (video demo)

yeah, I have it there in:
C:Program files\2k games\firaxis\Sid Meier's Civilzation Gold\BTS/mods/name

I'll try what you said and run the mod a good 10-20 times.

Go to your mods folder and copy the ini over from one of the pre made mods (ex:Gods of old)
Put it your mod and rename it your mods name.

Just try running it. It might say gods of old as you load it the first time...if you want to play it safe copy the mod without the ini to your desktop just in case

Alright, now one last thing: I cannot save my ini file. I made some changes and it doesn't let me save it, saying that my folder is not a valid destination. Should I save it somewhere else and then move it to my folder?

:crazyeye: that can't really be. Are you sure that you've been in the right folder?

You were right. I had forgotten that I didn't move the ini to my mod folder yet(I have to save everything to the desktop first because stupid Vista doesn't let me save directly to my mod folder).

Now it would appear I typed in some XML code wrong, so I'm off to go correct that.

Yikes-I never expected modding to be so difficult, thank you for all your help though, without it I son't think I'd venture out into doing this. :)

i have a prblem where i cant get the files in assets, only in customassets and when i go into the civilizations folder, its blank any ideas?

You dont want to mod the actual assets, you want to go into your mods folder make a new folder (name it what you want your mod to be then MAKE a assets folder inside the folder you just made.

I have a little problem, not sure if this has been covered already but I'm kind of in a hurry at the moment. Basically, when I loaded my shell of a mod the .ini file wasn't automatically created, so I created one myself using notepad exactly the same as the one in the video, correct to the letter or space. I then saved it as my mod with the '.ini' suffix, and found when I loaded up the game and closed it, the .ini file had literally vanished. Definitely the right folder and everything...does Windows 7 use a different method other than an ini file, do I need an ini.bak file or is it because my .ini file was somehow wrong (even though I made sure it was exactly identical)?

Any help anyone could provide would be great!

EDIT: Fixed, I missed off the mod description. Sorry about this!

no i mean that when i get to the stage of draging the stuff over, it is not there

What exaclty do you mean? The art for units and lederheads e.g.?
If yes: In the basic civ folder are some files, pak0.fpk - 3.fpk, which contain these files and can be openend with a program called pak build, which you can find in the download database, under Civ4\Utilities.
