I'd be up, it would mean I could roleplay as a nation, but have never played a Pitboss game before.
But I'm not exactly sure how much time I would be able to spend, and how much I would be expected to write (I have a rather easy schedule though).
But I'm also worried about my "writing" skills.
And for what's it worth, a Steam group could be organized.
I saw you were referred over here by CPM (thanks for spreading the word btw). So let's address some of your problems that you noted.
1.) I have no idea how a Pitboss server will work when I host it (even the mechanics of how you play. I looked them up and I kinda grasp it). Ideas of nationalism definitely began to spread after the Common Era began, so you'd be more role-playing several towns that morph into cities, and then a united empire (or whatever gov.) as the game goes on. That's really a bad example, I'm just trying to clarify that it won't be exactly "roleplaying a nation". Think of it more as recording the history of a people and their nation, and you get to morph the culture and history directly as you record it. You understand? I'll try to post an example of what I'm looking for at the bottom (from my rough notes), but if you go look at the Bodian Republic story, that's a good example of the finished product (first five-hundred years only, there's much more of the story).
2.) Allegedly, Pitboss is built that users must make a turn within a day or else they will have no movement (yet still hammers and food), so it won't be a GIANT playthrough or city-building for hours, but instead a light half-hour activity each day. (half-hour may be altered. For the first two thousand years, things occur slowly. You'll have time to develop new city-names, staple foods, other bits and pieces of lore to add. Then as the Renaissance hits, things'll happening each turn for a while). If you have an easy schedule, this shouldn't be too much of a problem. But, you decide.
3.) Writing skills! Okay. The best thing to have is knowledge. I'm currently reading the Preindustrial City by Gideon Sjoberg for the sole purpose of worldbuilding better. I've gone to Shared Worlds for dos anos and seen so many ing pieces of worlds I know how to craft better ones. This would be my advice to you. Read a lot and keep at it. Look at the Mass Effect universe, IRL civilizations, Game of Thrones, anything you can. Develop something based around that. Writing comes easier once you know what's going on and why it's going on. This leads into point four.
4.) I think a subforum will be created to help aid the development of this challenge-world which I'm calling Operation ______. I dunno. Operation Aztec Wig? Operation Pitcream? Operation Lorebeard? I'm sure we'll have a poll to decide if we get more people (six slots remaining, maybe five). This subforum will not only have places for descriptions, rumors, and movement of immigrants and ideas 'tween regions, but it will also have questions of the day and peer-review. I can gladly take a look at your rough notes or second drafts anytime. I bet others can too (I at least hope). I'll be constantly posting things like "how was the wheel discovered in your civilization?", "who is the current ruler/ruling party? How have they kept power?", or "are other races viewed differently in the capital? Is there major discrimination?". This will hopefully help you build up a better world. Use your imagination and keep at it.
I forgot something
5.) The length of rough note entries will vary per turn, but I usually do a paragraph or two. It comes easily as I can reference all the Civ V demographics and beliefs and maps for ideas and relationships to write about (i.e: I noticed the Ottomans had five silver to trade, I made the Ottomans a dwarf-like island culture). As time passes you'll write more. I have thirty-two pages of note for my Russian game (and that's not including 1872-20??). I think it would make sense to edit our notes into a more fleshed-out version as we go, perhaps having checkpoints every era to write five-ten pages. I'm not sure how this can be handled considering my understanding with Pitboss, perhaps someone more adept in the field can answer this question (please)?
So that's just about it. I'm happy to take questions.
