Multi-session Gamespy game - for Europeans with day-jobs (or Americans without them)

For this game, I would prefer turn-based as opposed to simul. turns.

If we do go with turn-based, what will you set the turn timer to? Remember, in the game you and I are currently in, it's set to Medium. Will you use Medium or a longer timer (I'd be opposed to a shorter one)?

Turn based is ok.. if we have the turn timer on, and everyone really tries to be quick with their turns. I've had some bad experiences with people taking ages to complete their turns (e.g. oh sorry, went to take a sheit)

But let's discuss all of this on Gamespy.. wonder if I even have an account there  ..need to check that..

Haven't played online multiplayer yet (just PBEM and PB) so I prefer turn-based. I suspect there is some kind of timer that restricts the turn time anyway? See you at Gamespy. Have this same nick there.

Hi i am the other dude who lives here. I could play with too.
If i get into lobby in time.
My name is: ondtblod

Lzprst is out atm, coming back soon i think...
He says an random AI could start, then he takes it when hes home.

Okay, we played our first session.

Dux, I'm sorry I didn't see you. I THINK there's an AI you can take over, but you won't have a teammate, sorry.

LzPrst, you were reportedly drinking and left your flatmate to play alone. You can take over an AI which is teamed up with your mate.

Saturday:
We'll play at 15:00 GMT for 2 or three hours. We have confirmation from Stemil, Dandridge, Mysterio and Myself. Need confirmation from LzPrst and/or ondtblod (one is enough).

hi. I must apologize. I got called up by a friend a few hours before game start and I havent seen him in almost a year. he was in town only because his plane was delayed and had only a few hours here. So I figured I could go meet him and be back in time. or at worst take over the AI and bring it to greatness. Unfortunately, his plane was further delayed and we sat talking about circuits (which he understands and I dont have a clue about) and the future of the internet which was quite interesting. 5 beers later it was 22:00 GMT and he took a cab and I ran home. only to find ondtblod telling me the game was "over".

how did it go? did turn-based system work well for everyone? did the AI screw me over? I'll hopefully find out on saturday. I have no plans and hopefully no friends from the other side of the country flying through...

also, ondtblod isnt too interested in playing more. so we should look around for a substitute. I might know someone, I might not. I apologize for appearing like a horrible and untrustworthy player.

Sure I hope LzPrst and Dux can play and be teammates, in place of ondtblod and his AI minions.

Yes the time is 15:00 GMT on Saturday. Set it in your calenders. If everybody is willing, we'll play more than 2 hours, and we can have a recess in the middle.

If it takes 2 hours, I'll play, but Im not sure I can play more on Saturday. How many turns did you guys do, I always fear trusting the AI with my empire:(

I guess I could substitute Onstblood. Btw, my new gamespy nick is DuxXVIII, I think it's a slight improvement from the last one.

as i can't be arsed trawling through this thread, what are the proposed days of the week you intend to play?

i can only make friday-sunday

I'm afraid we've already begun playing and we don't have room for more players, unless someone quits. I imagine more games will follow after this one so you should check up on the forums every once in a while.

Since everyone's been recruited through this thread, this is the natural place where we schedule the games. It's hard to schedule as it is, but I don't see any other way.

We haven't agreed on the days, but everyone said they're willing to play a few nights a week, and we have agreed on the hours (20:00-22:00 GMT). We'll schedule as we go.

You might consider instigating a game for weekends and I imagine some of us would be interested in joining.

Well, I was just looking into onstblood's password issue but when I logged in, I found out that it wasn't password protected. Looking a little deeper, though, in the game that we loaded (in 2200 BC) it was password protected. What happened?
Well as it turns out, if you let the AI take over a civ, the civ is no longer password protected - the pw is washed out. This means that you can always "repair" a game where you lost a password - just let the player join AFTER everybody else has joined, and has voted "save game and coninue playing". You may need to reload the game after that, but it's all pretty simple. Neat huh?

So to sum up, France is now open and LzPrst can join in. Dux needs you!

We only played an hour today, and the year is 1480 BC I believe.

Today's session was too short to be rewarding.

Trying to schedule for Sunday (yawn).

I'll be busy on the afternoon, I forgot about that. So we can start at 18:00 GMT at the earliest, or 20:00 at the latest.

Need everyone's comments on that.

If you can't, that's ok. Tell us which night of the week is good for you. May I remind, on week nights, we aim to start on 20:00 GMT.

20 GMT Sunday sounds good, even 19 GMT is good. Today it was slightly too early :p

Sunday is ok..

Weekdays - 20GMT should be manageable every day except on wednesdays (I can do 20:30 even then)

Next weekend I'll probably be unable to play.
