Multiplayer FfH2?

lol

the trick is to start at classical, build every city on a hill, and pump out archers until they become so experienced they don't get hurt at all by barbs, then start making settlers grouped with them and take over key defensive positions to block barbs access to your original cities.
but i usually roam around with my settler until i find a highly defensible position.

But since its FFA, deity basically just handicaps all players so it evens out, so the difficulty doesn't really matter.

Raging barbs deity.. im used to it so it doesnt seem so bad to me, and i usually want it for challenge (not saying im good at the game or anything, just that i like fighting tooth and nail to make it interesting). But i'm sure human players won't be so easy to predict or appease.

I think its better to put a lower difficulty setting, exactly because there will be human players to worry, and I prefer a million times be destroyed by another human than by the AI xP

Edit: Im playing a game Deity Raging Barbs now to test it out =D

ya, when theres AI's i need either constant war or raging barbs to really make it interesting, with all humans difficulty is just deciding the rate at which we can expand.

deity raging barbs can be tough but classical and hill cities with archers gets me through it every time. if barbs had bombard on one of the units they send against then i'd be worried, but as it stands, they've got no impressive seige engines.

in the mid game (around the year 200 or so on Quick) you'll prolly want to get longbowmen (my high xp archers were still going strong, but i had Raider so they had tons of xp)

not sure if it would work for dwarves or elves though, since the reason its so good is that normal archers have +50% city def and +25% hill def (elf archers don't get either, and dwarves don't have archers).
that leads to +75% from basic archers abilities, and +25% from the hill, so an archer with 0xp is counting as 6 strength with 1 first strike. you start adding promotions on that, and cultural defense modifier, and then walls, and they become unstoppable as far as barbs are considered.

i used to play:
Hghlands (lots of hills so many good city positions, and lots of good choke points so you can section off land where you can improve it and barbs cant get to it)
-with Seas
-with Dense Mountain Chains
Quick
Classical Tech
Standard number of AI's as the map gives automatically
Require Complete Kills (sometimes things go badly and its fun to see how long you can last lol)

I also play "No tech trading" so i can be insular without being out-teched at insane rates (the AI's will trade like mad if given the chance).

i don't play Highlands anymore since i found the Smartmap map script. You can get some nice maps with that script that have a large protion of land, with neat things like map sides connected AND top and bottom of map connected(donut!).

Heh, when I use smartmap i get some crazyness like FloodPlains/Grassland (5 food uninproveed o_0) and somethings I get all plains whidout any food/happiness resource, even whidout setting these things...

hehe one day I started a game as Lanun and I was bored, so I started smartmap whit some options like "very high lvls of resources, all grass," etc. and I got an island whit 3 cityes, in the island (and in the water) there were like 30 resources lol

i find it really useful for making maps that are good for all ranges of players. Like Lanun can find great city sites (do a fragmented coastline and you'll get many peninsulas and little islands all over the place) while maintaining a huge center island with the map having large amounts of land space, so other civs are at their best as well.

peronsally i tend towards:
deity
raging barbs
standard map size
Classical for tech (gets the game going quicker)
Quick
highlands (or other maps with large amounts of land)
and never random civs (getting stuck with undevelopped ones like the Sidar wouldn't be fun)
Look at my forum name - raging barbs on deity!?!?

I'd put my vote in for normal or epic game length.

@Lord Vermillion:
I have ADSL1 but I'm in Australia so it's not much better than you playing dialup in your country with my overseas ping - hence my desire for an American server. My ping is about 450 in Europe!!!

Where can I get this smartmap script plz? Are we using it for our game?

dunno about smartmap for multiplayer, it has longer loading times and multiplayer makes for long loading times by itself.

heres the thread for smartmap:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=154989

im a fan of quicker for multiplayer since multiplayer usually goes slower and its nice to not be pressing "end turn" doing nothing each turn :P
so of epic and normal i choose normal

difficulty can go right down as far as im concerned, since higher difficulty would just handicap us all and when humans are concerned i just play for fun not to win :D

i vote against smartmap, it tends to take longer and multiplayer slows startup down enough already (and getting off to a bad start isn't good).

im in favour of:
standard size
highlands map
seas
dense peaks
ridgelines

though does everyone know what civ they want to be? that could help determine map type, since no one wants a purely land based game if they're gonna be lanun (highlands with seas is alright though, if lanun can get on one of the seas), and conversely, we don't want many little islands if one person alone is gonna be lanun, and a tropical world is bad if someone is Doviello. Lots of civ based considerations.

I think i might try Keelyn, ive been meaning to try the balseraphs.

When I try to play Highlands on standart, my PC lags alot (sorry... my PC is a *cough* litlle outdated *cough*)

I´l go as Ethne the White of the Elohim or Flauros of the Calabim, any of the 2 is good to me.

maybe standard terra? that would give us the fun mid game of colonizing the new world.
or medium sized highlands? standard map is standardly 6 players anyways, and i think theres 4 of us?

another option that would be nice, Require Complete Kills (when i lose all my cities i like to atleast play until i lose all my units :P )

Im excited to do this! I am open to pretty much anything, but I personally like highlands myself. Unfortunately with highlands on MP, someone usually gets stuck with really bad land. As far as civ picks go, I am open. I like Malkim, Elohim, Amurites, Hippus, Balseraphs, and Calabim. so any of those are good for me:) I figured I would just see who was left out of those after all of you are done, then make my pick. Back to the map, I would like to do highlands, I just dont want to see someone get screwed on land, thats not to fun. I guess we can experiment with it. I guess I can try to host, I have been able to in the past. Remember I wont be ready until about 8:30 USA EST, so if I host, the game wont be up until then. I was thinking around 8:30 I will post the game name (FFH2) and password on here. Thoughts??

btw... Terra can be fun also.:)
