Hi. I played this game at friend's place and i liked it very much, so before buying it, i'd like to ask how the multiplayer works. Is there some kind of automatic matchmaking system like for example in World of Warcraft arena and SC2 or is the only option knowing people and setting up games via forums?

The game has a built in games list for matchmaking. But it is limited by the fact it is a regional list filtered by ping/latency. So unless you live in a major urban centre with alot of civers, you may not see any games, even though there are many games being played internationally.

The way around this is that Steam lets you invite or join games via any Steam player list, this can be a steam group chat or your steam friends list. We at Civplayers leagues run a steam group chat for this very reason, to hook international players up for games. But if you have a lot of civers on your friends list you can use that too.

If you want to see what I mean just vist www.civplayers.com and click on the Chatroon(steam req) on the left menu, and that will bring you to our Steam lobby.

Thanks a lot for this info. Yeah i'm actually living in Finland so i'm not sure whether i'd find games or not.

Since u brought it up, I didn't even think about the fact that there's the possibility for example Europeans and North-Americans to play in same games in a game like this where it's turn based. I doubt the ping would matter too much in this type of game as you can almost do so in games like WOW/SC2 (micro, fake casting) as well which require better ping i'd guess.

Oh, but it is not turn-based in multiplayer. It's simultanious... fast mouse click FTW ;)
