Multiplayer Series: The Real History of Azeroth

Episode 18: Seduced by the Dark Side

Now that peace is back, Nine2Five tries to peace together why JJ is so blood thirsty!

Miles, JJ and Rich try to peace together the shattered lands they caused in the war. Citadels litter the landscape near Silvermoon City and surrounding the Cerro de Potosi. Japan is in an especially tricky situation given the fact that they have been embargoed by the rest of the world for their warmongering ways.

The Chinese stay at war with Manila in an effort to take a major chokepoint without interference from Japan. JJ has to watch very closely as its a major gateway directly to the Japanese capital, and when the walls were at their weakest, the Japanese military quickly swoop in and take Manila after another Chinese bombardment.

Justin's civ continues to plod along as if nothing has changed. The discovery of Archeology has given Justin a new source of tourism to capitalize on. Justin lost out on the World Fair to JJ, despite Japan's war footing, something he is sure never to forget. Its also an indication as to how far back the rest of the world is from the Japanese technology and production.

Episode 19: Which World War?

Miles is rather angry in this episode of Civ V multiplayer! The peace was nice while it lasted.

The Japanese secured Manila and their western flank from under the Chinese bombardment. This leads to insults being sent to the Japanese, and not in just the game.

The Japanese are also the first into the modern era. With the year at 1914, most of this world seems to be a bit...backwards. This leads them to picking the first ideology of the game. Knowing that conflict in the future is all but guaranteed, the Japanese have adopted the Autocracy ideology.

As soon as the peace treaty ends, Miles in his rage, declares war again against the Japanese in an effort to take Manila again. Rich is moving its forces to protect Miles and Justin is offering to fund more bloodshed. It looks like another world war is in the future...

Episode 20: Fatal Peaceniking

Almost predictably, another world war has broken out between Rich, Miles, and JJ in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

China's initial efforts into Manila are stopped by the Japanese defensive forces and almost wiped out. America attempts to block out Japanese forces from breaking through the mountain range and taking a Chinese city.

Japan had been trying to improve its infrastructure and attempt to split between military and wonder production. JJ was hoping that peace would last a bit longer than the minimum 10 turns, or that America would stay out of the war.

However, America notices that Japanese military strength hasn't been fully recovered from the last war and are distracted in the west. With the discovery of artillery, America once again enters the war against Japan and cross the river of blood into the south.

Episode 21: Stalemate or Lose

America tries some interesting new tactics in their war against the Japanese in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

The conflict rages on between the Japanese and the alliance of America and China. The Americans are attempting to control the south side of the river with a citadel. They then followed up with a settler in an attempt to maintain a more permanent foothold. Spies are starting to help make up the difference in technology between them and the Japanese. America also decides to take on the Order ideology to combat Japanese Autocracy.

The Japanese have made more progress up the tech tree, but are very disheartened at the complete lack of strategic resources in oil and aluminum. For the moment, they are holding off the combined strength of China and America. Japan is also able to successfully take the first enemy city by taking America's foothold on the southern bank.

China seems frustrated at the failed attempts at taking the city of Manila. Their inability to break through the mountain pass is stalling America's attempts at breaking through the defense as well.

For Rome, its been archeologists all the time. All three warring empires wonder aloud just what Justin is doing. Rome is making a more concerted effort to increase their tourism through artifacts.

Episode 22: Close Your Eyes

The Chinese have liberated a city-state from the Japanese in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

The Chinese military has finally mustered enough firepower to liberate the city-state of Manila from Japanese occupation. With the city-state now allied to Miles and Rich, the mountain pass is now clear for Chinese forces to rush against the Japanese capital!

American and Japanese forces continue to duel it out along the River of Blood and Silvermoon City. Japanese production continues to roll out land units. However, American bombers continue to pummel those units unchallenged from the air. For now, this front remains largely unchanged.

Rome meanwhile continues their quest for magical artifacts and wonder construction. They remain unchallenged and away from all the warring going on to their south. Its for the best as their military forces are still wielding crossbows with "MAGIC!" stuck on the ends.

For Rome, its been archeologists all the time. All three warring empires wonder aloud just what Justin is doing. Rome is making a more concerted effort to increase their tourism through artifacts.

Episode 23: Killing Me Softly...

The Great War of Attrition continues in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

Justin is being interrogated by American and China. Both want to know what he's doing secluded in the north. His research efforts are starting to get bolstered with Great Scientists and he's starting to make gains after spending most of the game attempting to reach for high level techs.

American air power and Chinese ground forces continue to attack both Japanese fronts. Despite massive casualties on all sides, no side seems able to get a decisive advantage in the war. Frustration is mounting with the alliance.

China is the last to adopt an ideology, and they've joined with China and America to support Order against Japan's Autocracy. This could be the most significant move of the war as Japan's happiness could be at risk for being the odd civ out.

Episode 24: No Time For Games

Will the Japanese calls for peace be answered by the Americans and Chinese in this episode of Civ V multiplayer?

The Japanese continue to throw unit after unit into a frantic defense of their civilization. American air power is decimating forces along the river. The Chinese capture of Manila forces Japan to carefully defend their capital as well as the river of blood. The advent of flight might finally equalize the playing field.

Japanese land forces had a similar advantage over American land forces, but technology again has equalized this with the development of American Landships.

Everyone wants to know what Justin is doing... Trade routes are still being plundered by barbarians. Rich notes all the stats that Justin is slightly...behind.

Episode 25: Cut to Justin

The world wants to know what the Romans are doing way out there in this episode of Civ V multiplayer.

Rich continues to lament the nonstop war that plagues the continent. Desperate for a game changer of any kind, he pleads to the Romans to help in any way possible.

Justin may not be actively contributing to the war, but its his turn to pick an ideology, and he's gone with Order to match the Americans. He's also won the International Games as well, vastly increasing his tourism output. He may not be engaging in military conflict, but his tourism is starting to approach dangerous levels. America becomes the first to fall to Rome's culture.

China also continues their war against the Japanese, if only because the Japanese capital is named incorrectly. His military is spent and his units seemed to have fallen behind in technology.

The Japanese are still pleading for peace as they see all of the civs seems to have exhausted their militaries. Finally, the Americans and Japanese negotiate a peace treaty to end their second major war. However, hostilities continue between Japan and China.

Episode 26: Comforting Spicy Milk

A tentative peace falls over the continent in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

The Japanese have out-frustrated the combined alliance of America and China. The process of rebuilding starts again for the region. Losses in territory for the draining city of Goldshire and the continued trashing of tiles near Silvermoon City has significantly impacted the Japanese economy. Threats of embargoes also could isolate the Japanese into obscurity.

America, despite not taking over a city, may have gained the advantage over Japan. Strides in military research keep the Japanese in check and their economy will be stronger after the embargoes on Japan.

China starts the rebuild process as well after negotiating a peace with Japan. The Chinese economy continues to hum along without the burden of needing a strong military.

Rome continues their culture game and attempting to establish ties with the other civs. The Chinese are next on the list for cultural takeover. However, the embargo against the Japanese will make it more difficult to make a cultural victory a reality.

Episode 27: Shower Measurements

The first world leader vote is here in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

The Strippers and Gold alliance is stronger than ever. Rich still feels defeated in its attempts to take over Japan and starts to shift votes to the Chinese instead. The alliance doesn't control enough votes to win, but Justin could wild card a win to the Chinese.

Justin's Roman empire is putting out impressive amounts of tourism. The civ is now overshadowing the Chinese as well, leaving only the Japanese standing between Justin and a miraculous culture victory.

Japan is feeling more of the pressure from the future. JJ knows that the advantages that Japan once had are evaporating and a future war against the Strippers and Gold alliance may break through the weakened Japanese defenses.

Episode 28: What is Happiness?

Japan survives the World Congress vote and the game will go on in this episode of Civ V multiplayer.

The Strippers and Gold alliance seems to be alive and well, almost giving the Chinese the win the votes. However, the remaining difference is large enough so that many votes will need to happen before the two nations can get enough votes to win the game.

Rome has other plans through, as their culture has surpassed America and China in their efforts for a cultural victory. Their biggest challenge will be to surpass Japan's large culture. The output will need to be greatly increased to win before China and America can get their votes. The embargo of Japan is only hurting their cause.

Japan is still working on their scientific victory. Unfortunately, their efforts to stop other victories and being embargoed by the world represents their biggest challenge to finally winning a game. America's constant military presence is also a big worry and the Japanese economy may no longer be able to support an adequate defense if the ship starts being built.

Episode 29: Fruit Basket Diplomacy

The world is trying to develop peacefully after centuries of non-stop war in this episode of Civ V multiplayer.

Rome discovers the advanced diplomacy options that the world congress offers and the ability to force other people to go to war. A flurry of proposals from Justin goes out into the world as he hopes the world will start dancing again, just for him.

Japan's rebuilding efforts are severely restricted by embargoes to their trades. The conquest of Goldshire seems to be more of a trap city rather than a legit conquest because of the significant development the city needs.

The Strippers and Gold alliance still works towards a diplomatic victory. However they will be short on votes once again. Rome has enough going for their cultural victory that they probably won't vote to end the game, but Justin's diplomatic proposals may accidentally give China a victory.

Episode 30: Known for Magic

The world makes fun of the drunk Roman settlers in this episode of Civ 5 multiplayer.

Rome is being criticized by the Americans for their poor city placement. They've put down a number cities far to the north of what the other civs would call, "habitable".

America realizes that their land has been poisoned by being close to Japan and not having strategic resources turned on. As a result, they've sent off a colonist of their own to the new world in an effort to find more resources.

China is being taken advantage of in trading with other Civilizations, as they once again trade away their oil for more horses.

Japan's economy is starting to seriously stagnant as a result of embargoes. Keeping up with America's military production is becoming very difficult, and the research gap that was Japan's strength is quickly evaporating. Japan may need to make a move soon or their strong start my not translate to anything more than being eradicated from the game.

Episode 31: Banning the Saltiness

The world decides that its time to ban the saltiness in this episode of Civ 5 multiplayer!

America has to strike out to new lands in an attempt to get new resources. The entire journey they were shadowed by a pair of Japanese battleships, but they do not engage the almost defenseless settler.

Japan sees the America settler headed to the new world, headed towards oil and uranium deposits in the north. Its at this point that JJ knows that they've fallen behind the curve and is purely defensive in power at this point.

Justin has discovered that he can create diplomatic deals to get other civs to fight each other and starts to throw them to all the rest of the civs in world. The hope is that constant conflict can only help his cultural victory. That and he likes to watch the other puppets dance.

Another world leader vote shows that China and Rome are tied in votes. If America supported China, they would be slightly short to the magic number of 27, but America is now voting for themselves, most likely to ensure the game goes long enough to ensure Japanese destruction.

Episode 32: Ultimate Bomber

America has discovered the secret of creating the ultimate bomber in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

Roman diplomatic overtures are starting to confuse the rest of the world. America, China, and Japan have to read through the entire diplomatic deals as they could start an international incident. However, they have their own incidents to deal with, as barbarians in the 21st century still plague their trade routes.

Japan is having barbarian problems as well. Barbarian destroyers are threatening city connection to Undercity, making Japan's precarious economic situation worse.

There's an increasing sense of dread as all the civs start drifting towards the atomic era. America and Japan, already trashing tiles with regions of fortresses, are especially weary of the seemingly inevitable threat of nuclear war.

In a unanimous declaration, the saltiness has been banned from this series!

Episode 33: New Leaders

Justin's attempts to unhinge the world are becoming more and more creative in this episode of Civ 5 multiplayer.

The river dividing America and Japan are militarized yet again. But this time the northern side has modern armor backed up with a modern air force and a strong economy. The southern side has infantry, some anti-tank guns, and a fledgling air force with world war 2 era fighters, along with an embargoed economy that can't support the arms race.

America's ally, China, has an even better economy, beating the Japanese to the Sydney Opera House. The war chest has been a huge factor in past wars and looks to figure again in the coming conflicts. Money also looks to make a diplomatic victory the closest victory for this game.

Rome continues its quest to dominate by tourism, but the gap between Justin's tourism and JJ's culture might be too great before Miles buys out the world leader vote.

Japan is desperately trying to get to a scientific victory, but the distraction of another military conflict is slowing down the effort and JJ is slowly falling behind in the world.

Episode 34: The Terrible

This could be the start of the last great war in this episode of Civ 5 multiplayer!

Everyone is sensing the end of the game approaching, especially considering that the game should have ended already. The tech levels suggest this world is about 60-80 years behind schedule.

Japan is attempting to use faith to buy scientists and engineers to rush through the tech tree as fast as possible and give any sort of advantage. However, like the currency used, Japan's strength is being held up more on faith than actual power.

American dominance is starting to really show, this time by building the International Space Station over Japan's efforts. The military presence is starting to get to the point where they may completely overshadow the Japanese military.

In an unusual twist away from world war chaos, Rome, China, and America all vote to ban nuclear weapons from the world. Japan's economic standing prevented them getting to the point where they could build nuclear weapons before the ban. Perhaps the world will remain peaceful?

And then America crossed the river...

Episode 35: The Last War

The Japanese could be facing a complete collapse in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

The Americans finally crossed the river south and brought their old friend's, the Chinese in as well. The combination of American air power and Chinese naval power this time could prove to be too much for the Japanese to handle. On the ground, American mobility allow their forces to side step Japanese defenses and are able to bombard and take Thunder Bluff from the Japanese with minimal casualties.

Japan is able to defend the river with some success against American ground forces, but the overwhelming air power picks off any Japanese ground forces caught outside a city. Very quickly the military situation falls into a desperate situation.

China is doing its part by attacking and preventing Japanese ships from organizing into an effective force. The Japanese navy, like its army counterpart, falls apart. With America doing its part, the Chinese don't even have to spend their money to take out the Japanese.

Rome remains a neutral combatant (again) and looks on the events with great interest. The immediate concern now is American aggression. The threat of a domination victory by the seemingly advanced American military is now very real.

Episode 36: Better Deals

The Romans are a devious bunch in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

The Americans have finally gained the upper hand and taken the Japanese misspelled capital of Ogrimmar. The Japanese forces remaining are withdrawing to the stronghold at Silvermoon City. However, with the overwhelming air and ground forces, its only a matter of time before Japan is kicked off the continent.

Knowing that the end is near, the Romans offer the Japanese leader a deal to go into exile, taking control of a couple of remote northern outposts in exchange for the city of Goldshire. JJ thinks this will create an ugly splotch in the middle of new American lands. Justin has other plans...

Episode 37: Spread the Salt

The Americans are unveiling some futuristic weapons in this episode of Civ V multiplayer!

The last bastion of the Civilization of Japan falls as Silvermoon City is taken by the Americans. JJ is now claiming that his civ is a "rouge state" and is hoping for the repeal of the Nuclear Non-proliferation treaty to get one last revenge shot on ... anyone.

The Romans are worried about the ease to which the Japanese fell to the Americans. Rome has never had much to worry about from a military standpoint, but now America might easily be able to take the Chinese and Roman capitals with their new X-Com troopers. Rome attempts to create a defensive pact with their Chinese neighbors to the south.

China's votes for the world leader and extensive money supplies are now the preeminent victors of the game. China can win the World Leader vote outright with a couple of city states, and he quickly moves to secure his win. However, there are still possibilities for America with a sudden strike of X-Coms and a surprise victory for the Romans if the Chinese and American's aren't careful.
