Multiple unique units

once again these threads come up - and once again i am driven to define the word "Unique" - it means one of a kind-
One would ruin the fun (and logic) if there were more Unique Units per civ- it just does not make sense - i think the genesis of this odd request is that people want more more more - assuming that more = better- whereas i contend that C3C suffered from this syndrome - example -making Armies stronger - and - totally unbalancing-
I suggest that if they gave a western or eastern flavor to units that this would go far towards adding variety....

Im sure theres some mods that add a load of flavour units. The units are all pretty much the same they just look different. Minimal changes to the statistics.

Would it be bad if there were UUs that didn't have different stats? Romans would have Legionaire's while Persians had immortals, but both were 3/2/1(in Civ 3 terms). Why does anybody have to have the same units, as long as the stats are the same. Then balance is really easy.

Wouldn't that take out the whole point of having UU's?

I'm just tired of the fact that the only thing that really makes a civilization "unique" are it's units, and even those are useful in only 1, or maybe 2, ages. If not more unique units, then why not other civilization changes? Like the ones in Age of Empires or other strategy games, where every aspect of play is affected by which civ you choose? e.g., 1 civ builds units faster, another has greater LOS, another's naval units can move more quickly, etc...

maybe, like mesoamericans cant build cavalry?

It would be pretty cool to have no real unique units, but simply have everything look really freaking different. Like meso swordsmen with feathers on their heads, or american indutrial age settlers come in covered wagons

If the civs were same except art that would ruin having more than 8 civs!

This is a civlization, not a history simulator. Many of those unique units rose out of the unique conditions of developement of those civilizations. I would prefer a system that had unique units be a result of gameplay actions or none, not pre-determined.

I would like that better too. If Rome had no iron and were peacful would they have a unquie unit like a legonary. I just don't want having no unique units at all even in the current way which is what Illuminatiscott suggested.
