Music scores

aaah, I see.
anyways those music that I mean do not sound similar. They are the same with small arrangements.

edit: I checked all 30 songs from Rich Douglas on the website you linked, but none of them is similar to HOMM. The songs taken from HOMM4, namely are:

- OpeningMenu.mp3
- Leaf3.mp3
- Rune4.mp3

I've been playing HOMM4 for ages and I recognize these songs without the slightest doubt at the second note. The openingmenu one is a bit rearranged if I'm not wrong (I've heard it too many times now... I'm not sure anymore !), the other 2 are plainly those from HOMM.

Rich has done more work than just whats on his website. The songs you are refering to are work that he did for the Eclipse mod. You can get them from the download on this page: http://students.guildhall.smu.edu/eclipse/downloads.html

OpeningMenu.mp3 is 8_ECMainThemeTheme_EndCreditsMix.mp3
Leaf3.mp3 is 9_ECTheGlade.mp3
Rune4.mp3 is 12_MountainsofMourn_HighlanderRemix_RD.mp3

Is Rich's disclaimer on the website (saying that the songs aren't for mod use) just boilerplate for standard protection? It was a bit jarring for me to follow the link there and then see the explicit statement that the music isn't to be used for mods. I'm guessing you've already got permission, hence the link.

Is Rich the writer for some of the Disciples II music? Because I think I definitely heard some of that. Also, adding a credit for Arcana and linking their site would be awesome, given that they can use all the PR they can get given their relatively small stature.

Yeah, I've talked to Rich and he approved our use of his music. I don't know if he did Disciples or not. He is a professional composer for video games but last time I talked to him he was working on the soundtrack for a car game, stunt driver or something.

Ok let's give credits where it's due.

Heroes of Might and Magic 4 has been released in 2002. That HL2 mod has been released in 2005 (by that time, 3DO was already dead). Those songs I mentioned plus one that is in the pack of the mod you linked are copied from HOMM4. They have been composed by Rob King and Green Street Studios ( www.GreenStreetStudios.net ), not by Rich Douglas who rather slightly arranged them. I probably wouldn't be able to do even that, though even if I would, I wouldn't claim to be a composer.

I have the soundtrack from HoMM4 and I can tell you that none of the songs in Eclipse are directly from HoMM4, but they are very similiar. So similiar that you are probably right (that they rearranged songs from HoMM4).

Rich is a professional and an amazing musician so Im going to assume that the makers of the Eclipse mod used some of Rich's music and some of the rearranged HoMM tracks (and not that Rich rearranged the HoMM tracks).

So I think you are right, I took them from Eclipse, not from HoMM, but the origional compositions are probably from HoMM. Thanks for pointing that out.
